Crunchyroll Challenges Netflix With Mobile Games: Here Are The Included Titles

Crunchyroll’s new mobile game service is launching with five titles that align with the platform’s Anime and East Asian focus. The initial games available are: “River City Girls,” “Wolfstride,” “Behind the Frame: The Finest Scenery,” “inbento,” and “Captain Velvet Meteor: The Jump+ Dimensions.”

Making its mobile debut, “River City Girls” is an action-packed beat-em-up game featuring characters from the “River City” and “Double Dragon” franchises. The game supports local two-player co-op with Bluetooth controllers. Another exclusive mobile debut for Crunchyroll is “Wolfstride,” an RPG that centers around a giant mecha tournament and former Yakuza members.

“Behind the Frame: The Finest Scenery” is an indie game that offers a more tranquil experience, classified as a visual novel. Players solve puzzles and use painting brush strokes to control the game and explore mesmerizing panoramic worlds inspired by Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli visuals. The charming puzzle game “inbento” features cute cats and bento cuisine, offering more than 120 levels to enjoy. Lastly, “Captain Velvet Meteor: The Jump+ Dimensions” is a tactical action game set in the imagination of a young boy named Damien. The game includes characters from the popular online manga publication Shōnen Jump+.

Android users can now dive into any of these games and enjoy playing. And if they ever want a break, they can easily go back to streaming Crunchyroll’s media content.

Google encourages Play Store users to vote for their favorite Android apps in 2023

In the games category, the Users’ Choice awards are expected to be highly competitive. One game that might influence the voters’ decision is “Street Fighter Duel – Idle RPG” by Crunchyroll Games. This strategy-based team fight game features popular characters like Ken, Ryu, and Chun Li from the well-known “Street Fighter” franchise. The latest installment of the franchise, “Street Fighter 6,” was also released earlier this year.

“Mighty Doom,” a mobile-friendly adaptation of the iconic “Doom” franchise by Bethesda, offers players a third-person kill-em-all experience. In this highly-rated game, players assume the role of the chainsaw-wielding protagonist known as the “Doomslayer” as they battle hordes of hellspawn.

Another strong contender is EA’s “The Lord of the Rings: Heroes,” which brings Tolkien’s fantasy world to life on mobile screens. However, the game’s reputation has been somewhat tarnished due to aggressive microtransactions. The remaining game contenders for the Users’ Choice award are “Aether Gazer,” “Arena Breakout,” “Cat Snack Bar: Cat Food Tycoon,” “Farlight 84,” “Honkai: Star Rail,” “MONOPOLY GO!,” and “Viking Rise.”

The Negative Impact of Military SONAR on Marine Life

In 2015, the U.S. District Court concluded that the Navy’s War Games in Southern California and Hawaii were in violation of laws meant to protect whales and dolphins. The court found that the high-intensity sonar exercises and underwater detonations involved in the military’s five-year plan were causing disruptions in feeding, communication, and mating behaviors of marine animals. As a result of this ruling, the U.S. Navy had to scale back its SONAR testing activities and take steps to protect marine life in collaboration with the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS).

Three years later, the U.S. Department of Defense published a document called the Atlantic Fleet Training and Testing, which highlighted the measures taken by the Navy to mitigate harm to marine animals. Some of these measures include having lookouts stationed and designating areas to protect seafloor resources like coral reefs, artificial reefs, and live hard bottoms. The document also emphasizes the importance of adhering to rules such as ceasing activities if a marine mammal or sea turtle is spotted and avoiding specific areas during certain times of the year.

Unfortunately, as of now, SONAR remains an integral part of naval military operations until a better alternative for navigation is invented. However, by implementing legislation and increasing knowledge about the seafloor, military units can minimize the potential damage caused by SONAR technology. Over time, it is hoped that advancements in technology will lead to the development of more efficient and less disruptive methods of underwater navigation.

Nintendo Switch Achieves Impressive Sales Milestone in the US

Nintendo’s success in sales is noteworthy for multiple reasons. The price of AAA video games has consistently risen since 2000, as stated by ArsTechnica. Additionally, Nintendo games tend to be quite expensive. Even remastered versions of old games like The Legend of Zelda: Skyward cost a hefty $60.

The “Switch Tax” is a well-known phenomenon within Nintendo’s gaming ecosystem. One argument is that developers must invest significant effort and resources to adapt their games for Nintendo’s platform, yet the company charges a premium for its first-party games, capitalizing on the nostalgia associated with franchises like Zelda and Mario. Despite these financial challenges, Nintendo games and Switch consoles continue to sell exceptionally well.

According to the Games Industry Biz, the Switch has maintained strong performance in 2023, thanks to the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. However, Nintendo benefits from a hardware cost advantage. The Switch Lite starts at only $199 and is ready to use at that price. Comparatively, the Xbox Series S starts at $249, but an additional expenditure is required for a screen to play games, while the PlayStation 5 starts at $400 for the digital-only version, also requiring extra purchases for peripherals.

Team Toyota’s Daryl Homer: Excited About the Future

Daryl Homer, a fencer for Team Toyota, won a silver medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio after years of hard work. Now, as he trains for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, he has come to realize that his athletic career doesn’t have to follow a linear path.

Homer is focused on changing his mindset and no longer seeing success as something finite. He believes in being excited about what’s next and challenging the notion of what is impossible. He understands the importance of embracing change and looking forward to new opportunities.

As a three-time U.S. Olympian in men’s sabre, Homer has competed in London, Rio, and Tokyo. His silver medal in Rio made him the first U.S. medalist in men’s sabre since 1984. Over the years, he has learned to appreciate his accomplishments and the rarity of competing in the Olympics. He is now working on celebrating his past achievements while simultaneously training for future milestones.

Homer understands the challenge of maintaining focus and motivation, especially in a mentally demanding sport like fencing. He draws inspiration from his favorite athletes who have reinvented themselves and found continued success throughout their careers. He acknowledges that fencing is like physical chess and requires self-awareness, emotional control, creativity, and bravery to take calculated risks.

Early Beginnings and Transformative “Firsts”

Homer was born in the U.S. Virgin Islands and moved to the Bronx with his family at the age of 5. He developed an interest in fencing and started taking lessons at the Peter Westbrook Foundation in Manhattan. The foundation, led by Olympians and former Olympians, including Homer’s mentor Peter Westbrook and fencer Keeth Smart, played a significant role in his development.

Initially drawn to basketball, Homer found fencing to be a natural fit for him. He began fencing at 11 years old and started taking the sport seriously a year later. He admits to balancing his athletic pursuits with simply being a kid, but eventually, he prioritized fencing and witnessed the results of his hard work. Beating an older fencer in a competition was a transformative experience that boosted his confidence and motivated him to continue pushing forward.

Building a Support System

Heading into his fourth Olympic cycle, Homer values the support system he has established. His family, fencing club, and local community provide him with the encouragement and assistance he needs to succeed. Homer appreciates the support he received from his neighborhood after the disappointment of not winning a medal in Tokyo. He also acknowledges the support he receives as part of Team Toyota, having formed close bonds with fellow athletes who joined the team around the same time.

Homer considers his teammates, the marketing department, and the entire organization as his extended family. Their unwavering support empowers him on his journey and motivates him to keep striving for excellence.

Warning: Final Fantasy 16 Spoilers May Be Spreading on Social Media

Regrettably, it’s not uncommon to see major spoilers for video game storylines circulating online just before the game’s release. A similar incident occurred in late October 2022 when Sony alerted “God of War” fans about significant “Ragnarok” spoilers making their rounds online. Despite Sony’s attempts to contain the leaks, once something is released on the internet, it’s nearly impossible to retract. In that particular case, it was discovered that a retailer had started selling physical copies of the game a few weeks before its official launch date. As a result, it’s highly likely that “Final Fantasy 16” leaks may also surface before its release.

Currently, “Final Fantasy 16” can be preordered from the game’s official website, the PlayStation Store, and Amazon. Initially, the game will only be available on the PS5 as a timed exclusive, but it will eventually become available on other platforms for those who prefer to wait. According to one of the teaser trailers, the game will launch on platforms other than the PS5 on December 31, 2023.

New game Alaskan Road Truckers offers more than just a driving experience

Games like Snowrunner and American Truck Simulator give players a taste of what it’s like to be behind the wheel of a big rig without actually having to live on the road. The newly launched Alaskan Road Truckers offers a fresh take on this concept by allowing players to simulate being a truck driver, not just driving a semi-truck.

The game is set to launch this fall on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC stores such as Steam, GoG, and Epic Games.

What sets Alaskan Road Truckers apart from its predecessors is the player’s ability to do things such as handle the fuel nozzle and visit the gas station to grab some snacks. The player can even crawl into the bed of the big rig’s sleeper cabin to take a rest. In addition, the player must manage the driver’s temperature, hunger, and energy levels, as well as make repairs along the side of the road if necessary, like pulling out a chainsaw to clear a tree from the road. The player can also listen to online radio stations as they drive the truck.

The trailer video shows various weather conditions and terrain differences. After attaching the trailer to the truck, the player is required to perform other tasks, such as connecting the air lines. Alaskan Road Truckers also includes running a trucking business, taking jobs to make money, and slowly upgrading one’s facilities. The player can even open the hood of the truck to check out the engine and modify the big rigs with upgrades.

The game, which was previously under development as Alaskan Truck Simulator, was recently changed to Alaskan Road Truckers to better reflect the experience of playing as a driver. The Polish company Road Studios is behind the development of the game.

If Alaskan Road Truckers sounds appealing, a video with eight minutes of gameplay is available below, with a developer narrating what’s happening.
