  • It is among the top three best-selling electric cars in India.

  • Tata offers the Nexon EV Prime with a 30.2kWh battery pack good for a claimed range of 312km.

50,000 units. That’s how many cumulative sales both the Tata Nexon EV Prime and Max have got to their name. This is like a shot in the arm for new buyers and the Indian automotive industry alike, given that our market is still slowly growing in acceptance of electric cars. Tata says the relatively newer Nexon EV Prime and Nexon EV Max variants constitute up to 15 percent in the overall sales of the Nexon.

Here’s a quick look at the journey of Tata’s most affordable electric car so far:

What Started It All?

Tata Nexon EV Prime

Back in early 2020, Tata brought out the facelifted Nexon, which also spawned the Nexon EV. It was among the first long-range mass market electric cars to go on sale in our market. It also became one of the first electric cars in India to be offered on a subscription basis, and it crossed the 1,000 unit-production milestone in a little over six months time.

Updates Down The Line

Tata Nexon EV Max

In May 2022, Tata further broadened the Nexon EV range by introducing a longer range version which got the “Max” suffix, which came with a larger battery pack and more features too. This also led to the standard Nexon EV getting the “Prime” suffix, which is positioned as the entry-level version of the electric SUV.

With these updates, the Nexon EV got pricier too and not all states were still offering discounts for incentivising EV purchases. However, the entry-level electric SUV from Tata remained a popular choice and its Ziptron tech has become a proven technology for the Indian market with various records to its name.

In the new spy images, we can see one test mule sporting the same 18-inch wheels as the current model, while the other facelifted Safari revealed a fresh, intricate 5-spoke design for its wheels. Its profile isn’t expected to get many updates aside from the new alloy wheel design but at the back, you will get to see slimmer, connected LED lights and refreshed bumper. It will also be equipped with dynamic turn indicators like newer cars.

As the Safari was recently given a couple of updates on the inside, we expect it to carry them forward onto the facelifted version. These include the recently added 10.25-inch touchscreen and 7-inch digital driver’s display. Tata has frequently updated the Safari with multiple new features to bring it up against the competition like the Mahindra XUV700. That said, you can expect some more headlining features to be added with this midlife update.

Its other features will likely include a 360-degree camera, wireless phone charging, a panoramic sunroof, and ventilated seats. The updated Safari’s safety net should include up to six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), ISOFIX child seat anchorages, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

The Chevy Citation X-11: A Rare Gem from the 1980s

Let’s take a trip back to 1982 and explore the fascinating world of the Chevrolet Citation. Now, you might be wondering why we’re talking about a Chevy Citation, which was not exactly a beloved car. However, this particular model, the X-11, stands out from the rest.

The X-11 was the performance version of the Citation family, which primarily consisted of three-door and five-door hatchbacks. In its debut year of 1980, there was even a two-door coupe, but it didn’t last long due to lack of interest. However, the hatchback versions were incredibly popular, with over 800,000 units sold in the first year alone.

Despite its initial success, the Chevy Citation was not known for its long-term reliability, which explains why they are so rare to find today. Nevertheless, the X-11 model, with its sporty features and performance enhancements, has managed to maintain its appeal over the years.

Tesla Cybertruck Wrapped In Camo Spotted In California

The camouflaged look of the Tesla Cybertruck has sparked speculation about new design features or a sneak peek at what to expect when the truck goes into production. Tesla had previously mentioned that customers would have the option to choose from a variety of colors, most likely in the form of a wrap. This black-and-white camo design seen in California could potentially be one of those options.

Since its announcement in 2019, Tesla has made several promises about its all-electric truck, but there have been numerous production delays. Originally scheduled for 2021, the release date had been pushed back to 2024 at one point. Currently, the Cybertruck is expected to be available for purchase later this year.

All versions of the rear-wheel and all-wheel models are projected to reach speeds of at least 110 mph and offer a battery range between 250 and 620 miles. The Cybertruck is designed to have 100 cubic feet of storage space, a 6.5-foot-long cargo area, and 16 inches of ground clearance. With a substantial market for light-duty trucks, Tesla’s fully electric version has the potential for great success, provided it lives up to the hype built over the years. While there is a chance of further production delays, if all goes as planned, we may start seeing Tesla Cybertrucks on the road by the end of this year, some of which may still be camouflaged.
