Failsafe Logic May Cause Total Loss of Drive Power on Certain 24MY CX-90 Vehicles

WASHINGTON, DC. (Oct. 27, 2023) – Mazda North American Operations (MNAO), on behalf of Mazda Motor Corporation, has filed a safety defect notification with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for a concern which exists on certain 2024 MY CX-90 PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) vehicles.

The engine and electric motor of specific CX-90 PHEV vehicles may unexpectedly shut down due to a failsafe mode. This occurs when the temperature of the PHEV system inverter exceeds a specific threshold, triggering the failsafe mode. The software program in the powertrain control module controls this failsafe mode, halting the engine and electric motor. Unfortunately, this sudden shutdown can result in a loss of drive power, posing a higher risk of accidents. It’s important to note that there are no warning signs before the failsafe mode activates. The warning lights for the engine and hybrid system only illuminate after the failsafe mode is already in effect.

Rearview and 360-Degree Images May Not Display on Certain 2024 MY CX-90 and Mazda3 Vehicles

WASHINGTON, DC. (Oct. 27, 2023) – Mazda North American Operations (MNAO), on behalf of Mazda Motor Corporation, has reported a safety defect to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) regarding certain 2024 MY CX-90 and Mazda3 vehicles.

There is an issue with the view monitor camera control module, which may cause flickering or a complete absence of images from the front, side, and rear-view cameras on the center display monitor. This is due to improper processing logic, resulting in image deterioration.

If the front, side, and rear-view camera images are lost while reversing or using the 360-degree monitor, it can increase the risk of a crash. Unfortunately, there is no warning before this defect occurs.
