Rocky Mountain ATV/MC Tely Energy KTM’s Steward Baylor Jr. delivered an impressive performance in the second half of the race, securing a commanding win over Josh Toth from Enduro Engineering GasGas who finished in second place, and Grant Baylor from Monster Energy Babbitts Kawasaki who finished third. Steward had strong test times throughout the race, including a test win in test two, which gave him a 1-second lead over Josh Toth at the halfway point. Steward made some bike set-up changes at the Gas Available to adapt to a GNCC style set-up, enabling him to dominate the final three tests of the day and secure a 53-second victory.

Josh Toth bounced back on the podium with a strong second overall ride.

Josh Toth bounced back from a poor performance in the previous round of the series. He started the race strong by winning the first test. However, he encountered a setback in test two when he ripped the shifter off his bike with around 4 miles to go. Despite being stuck in 3rd gear, Toth managed to carry on and secure a 2nd place finish in that test. Although he won test three as well, Toth fell short in the second half of the race and couldn’t catch up to Steward Baylor’s pace.

Grant Baylor wrapped up his second consecutive National Enduro title with a third-place overall finish.

Grant Baylor needed to either beat or finish one place behind Josh Toth to secure the 2023 Championship one round early. Despite facing two crashes in the early tests, Grant held strong and finished just one place behind Toth in 3rd, securing his second consecutive overall championship and his 3rd title in four years. This victory also marks the Baylor Brothers’ seventh consecutive championship.

Am Pro Yamaha’s Ricky Russell ended up fifth overall for the day.

Ricky Russell from AM-Pro Yamaha finished 4th overall, achieving his best result of the season. Trevor Bollinger from Rockstar Energy Factory Husqvarna secured a 5th place overall finish, his highest finish this season. Liam Draper from AM-Pro Yamaha finished 6th overall and 1st in the NE Pro 2 class, becoming the first NE Pro 2 rider to win two races in a row. Draper won 3 out of the 6 tests of the day and finished second in the remaining 3, giving him a 13-second lead over Grant Davis. Draper expressed his satisfaction with winning today and achieving his goal of holding the 21A plate for two races in a row.

Grant Davis from Trail Jester KTM made it onto the podium for the second time this season in the NE Pro 2 class, finishing 8th overall. Craig Delong from Rockstar Energy Factory Husqvarna finished 9th overall while Ryder Lafferty from Coastal GasGas finished 10th overall.

She expressed her love for the race and her success at this venue. Steward Baylor on Top at Little Raccoon National Enduro

Steward Baylor Jr Steals the Little Raccoon National Enduro Win in the Final Test

Steward Baylor: “I knew I was going into the last section down and I have won a lot of my championships and races because of that last test. Everyone talks about in Enduros that slower is faster, but when you gotta make up time like that there is no slower, it’s straight sending it.

Round 7 of the 2023 Magna 1 AMA National Enduro Series presented by Moose Racing met in Southern Ohio of the 49th Annual Little Raccoon National Enduro. Wellston, Ohio has been dry most of the year and this created dusty conditions for the 70 mile enduro. Tight, flowing, technical single track was on the agenda in the hills of the coal mine country.

Coming out firing for the day was Monster Energy Babbitts Racing Kawasaki rider Grant Baylor winning both the first two tests for the day, despite having a big crash in test 2. Grant Baylor fell a little off the pace in test 3 allowing Coastal GasGas rider Ryder Lafferty to grab the test 3 win. Ryder Lafferty also was able to put in the fastest time for the 5th test ultimately landing him in the 3rd spot on the overall podium.

Grant Baylor: “It was kind of a bummer to lead all day and give it up on the last test of the day. All in all it was a good day with the points and I have a chance to wrap up the championship at the next round in Indiana.””

Grant Baylor also was able to win test 4 and was carrying the lead into the final test of the day. Grant now holds a 37 point lead over second place Josh Toth and can mathematically wrap up the 2023 Championship a round early. Rocky Mountain ATV/MC Tely Energy KTM rider Steward Baylor Jr seemed to be consistent all long but wasn’t able to grab a test win until the last test of the day in typical Stu fashion throws down the fastest time of the field to sneak past his competitors and take the overall win on the day.

Am Pro Yamaha’s Ricky Russell came home seventh overall.

Steward won the day over Grant by just 9 seconds. Ryder Lafferty was another 16 seconds back in third place. Rockstar Energy Factory Husqvarna rider Craig Delon was 4th overall. Redbull Factory KTM rider Ben Kelley was 5th overall, Enduro Engineering GasGas rider Josh Toth was 6th overall. AM-Pro Yamaha rider Ricky Russell was 7th overall and Rockstar Energy Factory Husqvarna rider Trevor Bollinger was 8th overall, all from the NE Pro1 class.

Liam Draper: “It was a good day, I was a little worried how dusty it was going to be, but it was actually pretty good. I felt good  and was a little bummed to see I lost the last test by 1 second to not have the clean sweep on the day”

Finishing 9th overall and 1st in the NE Pro2 class was AM-Pro Yamaha rider Liam Draper. Liam has won every other race this season trading wins with GasGas rider Thorn Devlin.  Liam won each of the first 5 tests in the NE Pro2 class before getting edged out on the final test by Thorn Devlin who finished 4th in the class for the day.

Stew Baylor Wins Rattlesnake National Enduro

Steward Baylor Jr Grabs First National Enduro Win of the Season.

Story by Logan Densmore Photos by Mack Faint
Steward Baylor: “we did a lot of tire testing all week and ended up with a trials tires like we always run here. I think the last 7 winners here used a trials tire so that’s what we did.” Tests 2 and 3 seemed to be rockier than most years and Steward attributed the trials tire for test wins today.

Racers that came to the rocky fern infested forest of central Pennsylvania for the Rattlesnake National Enduro were meet with near perfect conditions. The event had perfect race weather with sunny skies and upper 70s temperature. The Rattlesnake National Enduro is Round 6 of 9 for the 2023 Magna 1 AMA National Enduro Series Presented by Moose Racing. Steward Baylor Jr was able to take advantage of the conditions and grab his first National Enduro win of the season.

Starting on the traditional grass track held on the Quiet Oaks Campground property where staging is, PA native Craig Delong took an early lead. Rocky Mountain ATV/MC Tely Energy Racing KTM rider Steward Baylor Jr then went on an impressive run winning tests 2 through 5 to win his 4th time at the Rattlesnake. Steward: “I have not gone this long in National Enduros without a win since I started these things, as long as I had my leg over a bike anyway. A win sure does feel nice.”

Grant Baylor maintained his points lead in the championship with a strong second place finish.

Grabbing a second place overall finish was younger Baylor brother and Babbitts/Monster Energy Kawasaki Rider Grant Baylor. Grant Baylor was hovering between 2nd and 4th place all day before finally throwing down the fastest time in the 6th and final test which was the longest of the day at 9 miles. “I just tried to have a smooth day here. I know the rocks can jump out and get you as they have to me several times here in the past.” Said Grant. Going into the last test Grant Baylor and Josh Toth were separated by 0.5 seconds. Grant said “Josh and I had a good battle going all day. I knew we were within a couple seconds going into the last test so I let it all hang out there in the last test and was able to come away with a second place and extended the points lead, so all in all it was a good day.”

Josh Toth: “It seems like there is no dirt out there, just rocks, there are no breaks out there.”  Toth  sits in second overall in the Championship points after finishing 3rd at the Rattlesnake National Enduro.

Third place overall was Enduro Engineering GasGas rider Josh Toth. Josh has been grabbing all kinds of podium finishes on 2 wheels. Winning Downhill Mountain Bike races leading up to podiums in the National Enduro Series. Josh is typically a threat when it comes to more technical terrain like the Rattlesnake is, so a podium here is no surprise. “It was a tough day with the course being relentless. They were saying it was a little rockier than years past and I think it might be.” Said Toth. “It seems like there is no dirt out there, just rocks, there is no breaks out there.” Josh Toth will continue to sit in Second Overall in the Championship points after finishing 3rd at the Rattlesnake National Enduro. Fourth overall on the day was Factory Husqvarna rider Craig Delong. Rounding out the top 5 overall was Coastal Racing Factory GasGas rider Ryder Lafferty. Sixth overall went to Am Pro Yamaha rider Ricky Russell.

Thorn Devlin: “I was about a half mile in and I came around a corner and I was on the ground before I knew it. I looked down and saw the rear tire spit off the rim. I rode 3 miles of the test with no rear tire and it was sketchy at times. I knew I had to salvage the time I could and then throw it down in the rocks.” Thorn was able to throw it down in the rocks and win 3 of the remaining 5 tests including the final and 6th test to finally come away as the NE PRO2 winner.

Seventh overall and 1st NE PRO2 rider at the Rattlesnake was Bonecutter Offroad GasGas rider Thorn Devlin. Thorns day was almost derailed a half mile into the first test. Shortly into the grass track portion of the first test Thorn’s rear tire came off of the rim completely. Riding the section on the rim with the tire wrapped up in the swingarm, Thorn was nearly outside the top 100 overall going into the second test. Thorn was able to mount a new wheel after the first test to then go on and start chipping away the time behind the leaders in the NE PRO2 class.

Taking top honors in the Womens Elite Class was Rachel Gutish on her OverandOut GasGas. Rachel is always tough to beat of rocky technical terrain and she proved that again today winning by over 3 and a half minutes. “I thought there was top soil here and I thought wrong.” Said Gutish. “I really like the technical stuff so the course suited me well here. I didn’t feel like I set the world on fire today, but I was just smooth.”
