The new BMW CE 02.

The new BMW CE 02 – neither e-scooter nor e-motorcycle: The cool eParkourer for cities and urban areas.

With the new BMW CE 02, BMW Motorrad is introducing an e-vehicle designed for urban areas, following the launch of the CE 04 two years ago. This is in line with their commitment to electric mobility. The eParkourer offers a dynamic and enjoyable riding experience in urban environments, thanks to its electric drive, innovative design, and practical features.

Progressive design with new proportions and plenty of room for individualization.

The new BMW CE 02 represents a new approach to BMW Motorrad. It is an electric vehicle that appeals specifically to young people and defies categorization as either an e-motorbike or an e-scooter. It is an eParkourer designed for the city and urban environments. The design is practical, robust, and minimalist. It features large wheels for durability and excellent performance on various terrains. The frame, wheels, front fender, and triple clamp fairing are all black, creating a striking contrast with the granite grey metallic matt engine cover. The interplay of matte and high-gloss surfaces adds to its visual appeal. The special HIGHLINE version features gold anodized forks and a tape design with Petrol as a contrasting color, giving the CE 02 a dynamic and futuristic look even when stationary.

Powerful drive, low weight, and practical range. Two performance variants.

Riders aged 16 or older can ride the new CE 02 with a maximum power output of 11 kW (15 hp). There is also a 4 kW (5 hp) version, limited to 45 km/h, which meets the requirements of the AM driving license class. This version can be ridden in Germany from the age of 15, as well as by riders with a car license. The powerful drive allows the 11 kW version to accelerate quickly at traffic lights and provides a dynamic riding experience. It has a top speed of 95 km/h and a range of over 90 km (11 kW version according to WMTC), making it suitable for extended urban adventures. The CE 02 weighs only 132 kg (11 kW version) or 119 kg (4 kW version) and has a low seat height of 750 mm, which contributes to its playful handling characteristics.

Two riding modes “Flow” and “Surf” as standard and optional “Flash” mode.

The new CE 02 comes with the “Flow” and “Surf” riding modes as standard. “Flow” is optimized for cruising in urban traffic, while “Surf” offers a more dynamic riding experience beyond city limits. The sporty and dynamic “Flash” driving mode is available as part of the HIGHLINE optional equipment and as an original BMW Motorrad accessory.

External charger as standard, optional quick charger.

The new BMW CE 02 comes with a standard external charger with a charging power of 0.9 kW, allowing for quick and convenient charging at standard household sockets. The HIGHLINE optional equipment includes a quick charger with a charging power of 1.5 kW. This option is only available for the 11 kW version and can also be purchased as an original BMW Motorrad accessory.

Chassis with double-loop tube frame, telescopic forks, single-sided swingarm, and cast light alloy wheels.

The chassis of the BMW CE 02 features a torsionally rigid double-loop frame made of tubular steel. It has hydraulically damped telescopic forks at the front, a single-sided swingarm, and a directly pivoted shock absorber at the rear. The bike is equipped with wide tires mounted on cast light alloy wheels in a disc wheel design. Disc brakes ensure safe deceleration at the front and rear wheels, and BMW Motorrad ABS is featured at the front.

TFT display, USB-C charging port, and connectivity solutions.

The cockpit of the CE 02 features an easy-to-read TFT display that provides information on riding speed, battery charge status, and more. There is also a USB-C charging socket for powering a smartphone. Using the BMW Motorrad Connected app, riders can see the estimated time remaining for charging, thanks to Bluetooth connectivity. BMW Munich and FC Bayern München Basketball announce a long-term partnership for sustainable mobility.

BMW Munich and FC Bayern München Basketball GmbH have joined forces in a mobility partnership, which was officially launched on July 1, 2023. The collaboration aims to provide sustainable transportation solutions for the five-time German champions. At a joint press conference held at the BMW retail outlet in Munich, the partners emphasized their commitment to promoting electric mobility and supporting social initiatives in the local community.

During the event, Bernd Döpke, Head of BMW Munich, handed over the keys to two fully-electric BMW iX cars. One car was given to Marko Pešić, the general manager of FC Bayern München Basketball GmbH, and the other to guard Andreas Obst on behalf of the team. The initiative will enable the basketball players and coaching staff to travel emission-free in the Munich area.

Speaking at the press conference, Döpke highlighted the significant contribution of FC Bayern to the development of basketball in Munich, both nationally and internationally. He also emphasized the shared values of success, dynamism, and the joy of sports that are embodied by both BMW Munich and FC Bayern München Basketball.

Starting from the upcoming season, BMW Park, the home stadium of FC Bayern München Basketball, will become the new venue for home matches. The renaming ceremony took place with Pešić symbolically presenting the keys to Rudi-Sedlmayer Hall, which was constructed in 1972.

Expressing his excitement about the partnership, Pešić expressed his gratitude for BMW’s support and emphasized the advantages of being located in close proximity to the automotive giant. He also emphasized the common goals shared by the two prestigious brands. The partnership aims to solidify FC Bayern München Basketball’s position among the top teams in Europe and attract more fans to the sport. Additionally, the collaboration will extend beyond sports, as both partners are committed to launching and supporting social projects in Munich.

The first matches to be held at BMW Park are scheduled for September 16th and 17th, 2023, as part of a warm-up tournament. The inaugural home match in the BBL league will take place on September 29th, 2023, against the Mitteldeutscher Basketball Club. The joint social initiatives will also commence in the new season, with further details to be announced at a later date.

BMW’s Dingolfing Plant to Use Locally Produced Biomass Heat to Reduce CO2 Emissions

BMW Group’s Dingolfing plant in Germany plans to utilize heat generated from regional biomass and its own waste wood to fulfill about 50% of its process hot water requirements, starting from 2025. The company has signed a supply contract with UP Energiewerke GmbH, a subsidiary of Stadtwerke Dingolfing and Bayernwerk Natur, for the delivery of approximately 100,000 MWh of thermal energy per year. This initiative is expected to save the plant around 20,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, compared to conventional fossil fuels.

The agreement forms a crucial part of the plant’s future energy mix, offering regional and renewable sources of green heat. Christoph Schröder, the Plant Director, emphasized the importance of biomass as a renewable energy source, stating that it will contribute to lowering overall CO2 emissions by 10 to 15% per year.

The energy supplies are scheduled to commence by Q2 of 2025. The 20-year supply contract involves the purchase of thermal energy outputting nearly 100,000 MWh annually. The heat will be generated at a new biomass heating plant in Dingolfing, close to the BMW Group vehicle plant.

Since 2010, the Dingolfing public works department has operated a biomass heating plant that supplies heating to public buildings and private households in the southeastern part of the city. The new heating plant will be built in collaboration with E.ON subsidiary Bayernwerk Natur, through UP Energiewerke GmbH, a joint venture with equal partnership from both parties.

The heating plant, costing around €35 million, will consist of three boilers that operate year-round. It will also be equipped with its own pallet and waste-wood shredder. Underground pipes will transport the locally sourced heat to the energy center at the BMW Group vehicle plant, where it will be distributed across the site. Construction of the plant is set to commence in late 2023.

The biomass used for fuel will include the BMW Group’s own untreated waste wood, as well as wood sourced from regional forestry within a 60-kilometer radius of Dingolfing. The supply of wood will be managed by Biomasse Vertrieb Ostbayern (BVO) GmbH, supported by local forest owners and the Dingolfing public works department. The use of wood chips from sustainable forestry helps reduce CO2 emissions as the released CO2 during combustion is balanced by the CO2 absorption during plant growth.

The completion of the biomass heating plant project signifies a successful partnership between the city of Dingolfing and BMW Group Plant Dingolfing in reducing CO2 emissions and maintaining the region’s status as an industrial hub. The plant’s director, Christoph Schröder, expressed the company’s belief that regional biomass availability and power-to-heat technologies will play a vital role in its heating strategy, reducing reliance on fossil fuels like gas and oil.

Toyota Recalls Certain 2023 Tundra, Tundra Hybrid and Sequoia Hybrid Models

PLANO, Texas (July 7, 2023) – Toyota is issuing a safety recall in the U.S. for specific 2023 Toyota Tundra, Tundra Hybrid, and Sequoia Hybrid vehicles. This recall affects approximately 1,400 vehicles in the U.S.

The affected vehicles have a spare tire carrier assembly that utilizes a steel chain to secure the spare tire underneath the vehicle. It has been discovered that the chain links may not have been welded properly. As a result, these chain links could break at any time, causing the spare tire to detach from the vehicle. If this happens while the vehicle is in motion, the detached spare tire could pose a road hazard to other drivers and vehicles, increasing the risk of a crash.

To address this issue, Toyota dealerships will replace the spare tire carrier assembly with a new one at no charge to the owners of affected vehicles. Toyota plans to notify owners about this recall by early September 2023.

Please note that the information regarding automotive recalls, including the list of affected vehicles, is accurate as of the date of this announcement and is subject to change in the future. To find out if your vehicle is involved in a safety recall, you can visit Toyota.com/recall or nhtsa.gov/recalls and enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or license plate information.

If you have any additional questions, you can contact the Toyota Brand Engagement Center at 1-800-331-4331 for assistance with Toyota vehicles.
