Toyota Recalls Certain 2023 Tundra, Tundra Hybrid and Sequoia Hybrid Models

PLANO, Texas (July 7, 2023) – Toyota is issuing a safety recall in the U.S. for specific 2023 Toyota Tundra, Tundra Hybrid, and Sequoia Hybrid vehicles. This recall affects approximately 1,400 vehicles in the U.S.

The affected vehicles have a spare tire carrier assembly that utilizes a steel chain to secure the spare tire underneath the vehicle. It has been discovered that the chain links may not have been welded properly. As a result, these chain links could break at any time, causing the spare tire to detach from the vehicle. If this happens while the vehicle is in motion, the detached spare tire could pose a road hazard to other drivers and vehicles, increasing the risk of a crash.

To address this issue, Toyota dealerships will replace the spare tire carrier assembly with a new one at no charge to the owners of affected vehicles. Toyota plans to notify owners about this recall by early September 2023.
