Oceanco Project H: A 344-FT Superyacht Gets a Sustainable Makeover

The Oceanco Project H superyacht is a stunning creation that may appear to be a new build, with its newly-designed interior, modern exterior, and compliance with IMO Tier III standards. However, it is actually a renovation of a massive vessel that has been completely transformed into the pinnacle of luxury seafaring for the present and future.

The superyacht, measuring a staggering 344 feet, underwent a renovation with a contemporary exterior and an interior that were both redesigned by the renowned Reymond Langton Design studio. One of the remarkable aspects of this revived yacht is its commitment to sustainability, despite not being a newly-constructed vessel. This is of utmost importance in a time when sustainability is a paramount concern for yacht owners. The improvements made to an existing vessel can have just as much, if not more, positive impact than creating a new sustainable build. Therefore, the past should not be overlooked when it comes to shaping the future of luxury superyachts.

How To Improve the Visual Quality of Your Nintendo Switch Games in a Few Steps

To ensure that your Nintendo Switch looks its best when docked, one important factor to consider is the resolution. The Nintendo Switch offers resolution options of 480p, 720p, and 1080p. By default, it is set to Automatic. If your TV supports 1080p, you can easily change the resolution of your Nintendo Switch with these steps:

  1. Dock your Nintendo Switch.
  2. Turn on your TV.
  3. Turn on your Nintendo Switch.
  4. Select System Settings (represented by a gear symbol below the games).
  5. Select TV Settings.
  6. Select TV Resolution.
  7. Change the TV Resolution from Automatic to 1080p.

The resolution directly impacts the visual sharpness and clarity of an image. When set to 480p, the edges in video games may appear jagged, resulting in a diminished overall look of the game. However, by setting the resolution to 1080p, your Nintendo Switch game will be displayed at its highest possible resolution, delivering a visually pleasing gaming experience. While it may not match a 4K display, it is still superior to standard definition.

Why you should disable Telegram’s People Nearby feature

Telegram’s People Nearby feature allows you to find other active users near your location who are browsing the same content or participating in local group chats. The purpose is to connect with people who share similar interests.

However, there are two main issues with this feature:

  1. Increased risk of unwanted attention: By revealing that you’re online to individuals nearby, you make yourself vulnerable to potential scammers and individuals with malicious intentions. It’s highly likely that someone will try to engage with you to sell you something.
  2. Potential privacy concerns: This feature has the potential to reveal your exact location in real life. This poses a significant risk, especially for those dealing with stalkers or abusive individuals. Even if you don’t have a stalker, it’s unwise to expose your location to strangers.

Top 10 Military Light Utility Vehicles in 2023

The original Austrian Pinzgauer served for almost four decades as a highly regarded Light Utility Vehicle (LUV). However, due to declining sales, it was discontinued in 2008. In search of a worthy replacement, the Pinzgauer II was introduced. This new generation vehicle offers enhanced features such as a larger size, increased capacity, better mobility, higher payload, and improved overall performance.

A notable improvement in the Pinzgauer II is its six-wheel, 6×6 configuration, compared to the original’s four-wheel design. This enables it to carry heavier loads effortlessly, thanks to an impressive engine power increase from 87 to 194 horsepower. With a cargo capacity of 3.8 tons, the Pinzgauer II can accommodate 14 troops along with their equipment and is capable of towing trailers or artillery if required. Its elevated cab design allows it to ford waters up to a depth of 1.5 meters, and it boasts a range of 1,000 kilometers. Furthermore, the range can be doubled with an additional fuel tank, making it one of the most versatile LUVs on this list.

Despite its larger size, the Pinzgauer II can still be transported using Hercules aircraft or Chinook directly to combat zones. It serves various roles in these zones, including ambulance services, reconnaissance missions, tactical operations, and communications tasks. While it can be configured with heavy armor, the primary focus of the Pinzgauer II is utility rather than carrying defensive armaments. Nonetheless, it performs exceptionally well in terms of performance, practicality, and aesthetic appeal.

Bizarre Driving Laws You’ve Probably Never Heard Of

In Nevada, a state known for its vast desert landscapes, there is an unusual law related to camels. Many years ago, in 1856, the United States Military decided to use camels as pack animals for a short period of time in Nevada’s deserts instead of horses or donkeys. Unfortunately, this experiment did not succeed and the camels were either released or sold. However, a problem arose because these camels scared local horses, causing accidents on highways.

As a result, it is now illegal in the entire state of Nevada to take a camel on a public highway. It’s worth noting that horses are no longer commonly found on highways either, but this law remains in effect. Surprisingly, it is perfectly legal to drive a camel through the streets of Nevada cities, although the reason for wanting to do so is unclear.

These 5 SUVs Sold in India are Priced Much Higher in Nepal

Due to high import taxes, even non-luxury cars can cross the Rs 1 crore threshold in the neighbouring nation

Nepal, our neighbouring country that shares its mountains with us, is a market for many international carmakers, including some from India. Carmakers that operate in both India and Nepal have a similar lineup in both countries, but the prices vary significantly. Some of the popular cars sold in India are three times more expensive in Nepal. Here are five examples of eye-watering price differences due to import tariffs:

The Hyundai Tucson, the largest SUV sold by the Korean automaker in India, is also available in Nepal for a significantly higher price. The top-spec variant of the Tucson, which is priced at Rs 35.46 lakh in India, costs Rs 1.02 crore in Nepal.

In Nepal, the Fortuner is available with the 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine (204PS/ up to 500Nm) paired with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission, and it comes with 4WD.

The India-spec model also offers a 2.7-litre petrol engine (166PS/245Nm) with a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission, with the option of a two-wheel-drive system. However, the Fortuner Legender is not available in Nepal.

Reason for Such High Prices

None of these models are manufactured in Nepal and are brought into the country as imports. While several factors affect the pricing of a car, import tariffs play a significant role. The high import tariffs imposed by the Nepalese government make cars very expensive.

First Look At Maruti Invicto’s Cabin Shows Clear Look At The Changes Over Hycross

The Innova Hycross-based MPV will be Maruti’s flagship model when it launched on July 5

Maruti Invicto Cabin

  • The spy shot shows the presence of a sunroof.

  • Gets the same cabin as the Innova Hycross but with a black colour scheme.

  • Likely to be offered only with a strong hybrid powertrain.

  • Expected to be priced over Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom).

Maruti has been teasing their upcoming MPV, the Maruti Invicto, for a while and the strong hybrid MPV has also been spotted undisguised before. Now, for the first time, images of its cabin have emerged online and we can have a clear look at what the Innova Hycross-based Invicto has to offer.

What We See

Since the Invicto is based on the Innova Hycross, their cabin design and layout are nearly identical. Just like the Hycross, the Invicto gets a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, the same design for the center console and dashboard. Even the design and positioning of the AC vents are the same and even the steering wheel save for the Suzuki logo.

Maruti Invicto Center Console

But in the Invicto, changes can be seen in the colour scheme. While the Hycross gets a black and brown dual-tone cabin with silver elements on the doors, AC vents and center console, the Invicto, on the other hand, gets an all-black cabin with champagne colour elements replacing the silver ones.

Maruti Invicto Sunroof

Also, in this spied unit, a sunroof is clearly visible from the inside.

Powertrain

Toyota Innova Hycross strong-hybrid powertrain

As per some reports and dealer sources, the Invicto will likely be offered only in a strong hybrid version with a 186PS, 2-litre petrol engine mated to an eCVT gearbox. The 2-litre non-hybrid petrol engine (174PS and 205Nm) with a CVT gearbox could be skipped.

Features and Safety

Maruti Invicto Front

From this sighting and a previous teaser, it is confirmed that the Invicto will get a powered driver seat with memory function and ventilated front seats. It will also get features like a digital driver’s display, wireless phone charging, dual zone climate control, six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and a suite of ADAS features like lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control and autonomous emergency braking.

Price and Rivals

Maruti Invicto Rear

Maruti will launch the Invicto on July 5 and we expect it to be priced over Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom). It will be a rival to the Toyota Innova Hycross and will also act as a premium alternative to the Kia Carens, Mahindra Marazzo and Toyota Innova Crysta.

Did The Maruti Jimny Prices Miss Their Mark?

Maruti shocked us when it announced that the Jimny is priced from Rs 12.74 lakh (ex-showroom)

 Jimny off-roading

The Maruti Jimny has been one of the most highly anticipated SUVs for India since it was first confirmed for the market years ago. While the fourth generation of the three-door Jimny globally premiered in 2018, Maruti insisted on only bringing us an extended five-door version and made us wait five years for it. After all that, the country’s largest carmaker finally launched the lifestyle SUV this June and a lot of the public’s response on the interweb was far from welcoming. The problem? Its prices.

How high are the prices?

Maruti Jimny

The five-door Jimny has entered the market with prices ranging from Rs 12.74 lakh to Rs 15.05 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). For a subcompact SUV that can only seat four and has a decent but not expansive boot capacity, those prices are certainly eye-watering. Even though Maruti stretched it out and added rear doors, the rear passenger space and overall practicality in the Jimny is less than that offered by typical subcompact offerings like the Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue and Tata Nexon. Most of those models are priced between Rs 8 lakh to Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom).

But then, it’s not competing against typical small SUVs. The Jimny is a niche offering for lifestyle enthusiasts who want a capable off-roader, not a tech-laden city-suited family car. So, is the pricing still a pain point if compared to an appropriate competitor, like the Mahindra Thar?

Jimny’s Arch Rival

Mahindra Thar ground clearance

The second-gen Mahindra Thar is also a sub-4 metre off-roader and it has dominated the affordable lifestyle SUV space since its launch nearly 3 years ago. Even though it’s a three-door offering with no real boot, buyers directly compare it against the five-door Jimny.

On paper, the Mahindra has these advantages over the Maruti SUV:

  • Entry-level prices are lower by more than Rs 2 lakh.

  • Offers choice of a convertible soft-top (like the Maruti Gypsy)

  • Has more road presence thanks to chunkier proportions

  • Offers more performance with its 2-litre turbo-petrol engine (150PS vs 115PS) and a better automatic transmission (6-speed vs 4-speed)

  • Also gets the choice of diesel powertrains, the popular choice among off-roaders.

  • Assured safety with 4-star rating from Global NCAP crash test

Let’s take a closer look at each of those factors to see if they make it hard for the Jimny to justify its pricing.

Also read: Maruti Jimny Vs Mahindra Thar – Price Check

Why is the Thar so much more affordable?

What the internet is overlooking is that the Thar’s more affordable variants only have a rear-wheel drivetrain. When it comes to the 4WD Thar variants with the petrol engine, the petrol-only Jimny which offers 4WD as standard is more affordable by nearly Rs 1 lakh, and by nearly Rs 2 lakh between the petrol-automatic options.

Then there’s the features list where the Maruti comes with a touchscreen infotainment unit, 6 airbags, a rearview camera, hill descent control and a TFT MID as standard. Its top trim also comes with auto LED headlamps with washer, a larger touchscreen, auto AC and rear power windows, none of which are available on the Mahindra Thar. Furthermore, once 6 airbags become mandatory, the price gap between the two SUVs will increase in favour of the Maruti Jimny.

Does less performance affect its capabilities?

Yes, the Jimny may seem underpowered in comparison and the Thar certainly offers punchier performance but the smaller engine is sufficient since its body is much lighter than that of the Thar. Fun fact: A Jimny loaded with 4 occupants is still lighter than a Thar unladen!

Maruti Jimny off-roading

This makes it just as capable of conquering difficult terrains and the 4×4 system is also set up for the same. The transmission options may seem dated in comparison to the Thar, but these are proven worldwide and might even be cheaper to service and maintain thanks to Maruti’s scale of business.

It is also worth noting that the Jimny, like the second-gen Thar, is also aimed at city buyers. While fuel economy is not their primary concern, it is a priority nonetheless and the Maruti Suzuki powertrain is more frugal. Furthermore, as the regulations clamp down on emissions and diesel engines in particular, a petrol powertrain is at a lower risk of being affected by such changes.

Jimny on the road

No fun roof option

The current generation of the Jimny never got a soft-top option so it’s not an India-specific omission. However, it is clear that lifestyle vehicle buyers do like such options as even the Jeep Wrangler comes with a removable roof and doors.

While the fixed metal roof does reduce the fun factor, it has advantages over soft tops in terms of body rigidity and overall safety in case the car were to roll over while off-roading.

Is the Jimny safe enough?

The five-door Jimny has debuted in India and is yet to be crash tested by a well-known New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP). However, the three-door Jimny was tested by Euro NCAP where it scored a three-star safety rating (the tested car was also equipped with ADAS tech such as lane-assist and auto-emergency braking).

 Jimny Euro NCAP

While the Thar did score higher in the Global NCAP test, it is worth noting that the testing parameters have changed since then and it may not score as highly anymore. In comparison, the Euro NCAP is much more thorough and factors in a lot more scores than just a frontal-offset and side-impact crash test.

Mahindra Thar Scores A Decent Four Stars In Global NCAP Crash Test

We cannot say with certainty if the Jimny is as safe or safer than the Thar, but it certainly appears to be safer than the average Maruti.

So, is the Maruti Jimny priced fairly?

In our opinion, Maruti could have done better with the prices for the Jimny. Given the six-month-long wait since its unveiling, and with Mahindra introducing the more affordable rear-wheel drive Thar variants, the target consumer was expecting Maruti to flex its market dominance and introduce the Jimny with a more reasonable starting price.

Maruti Jimny front

As far as first impressions go, it was an unpleasant shock that the Maruti SUV arrived with a starting price of nearly Rs 15 lakh (on-road). The off-roader may be better equipped on paper than any competitor, it wasn’t short on compromises either and the biggest issue was that it lacked the physical presence of its more affordable rival.

Also read: Maruti Jimny Variants Explained: Which Variant Should You Buy?

How should Maruti have priced the Jimny?

In our opinion, the Maruti Jimny should have debuted with an introductory price range of Rs 11 lakh to Rs 13.5 lakh (ex-showroom) at least for a limited number of early buyers. Mahindra is adept at this “early-bird”  strategy where it will accumulate a sizable order book for a highly anticipated product at competitively low launch prices for the first ten to fifty thousand buyers, before raising the rates over the next 12 months.

Maruti Jimny badge

Compared to the Thar, the omitted cost of turbocharging, the old transmissions and smaller wheels/tyres should’ve allowed for the Jimny’s prices to be Rs 1.5-2 lakh cheaper.

Will this really affect the success of the Jimny?

If we could accurately predict such a thing, we’d have the ear of every carmaker in the world. It is too early to say if the Jimny’s prices will affect the overall demand and popularity of the SUV, but they will certainly have an initial impact with some of the more budget-restricted buyers changing their plans. At its current price, the Jimny is, no doubt, an indulgence.

Maruti Jimny red

Perhaps, Maruti has played a different strategy altogether which could pan out to its benefit in the long run. By introducing the five-door Jimny at these prices, it will not be hiking the rates by a couple of lakhs in the first year or two, while the Mahindra Thar’s prices are expected to keep rising.

Notes On The Jimny’s Business Case

We also asked our resident review expert, Tushar, to weigh in on the matter as he has spent some time with the Jimny and also had a chance to interact with Maruti’s representatives. Here’s what he had to add to the matter of the Jimny prices:

Maruti Suzuki already expects the Jimny to be a low-volume car. This could’ve motivated a stronger focus on margin-per-car vs more cars sold

Like the 3-door, the 5-door Jimny will also be exported generating more revenue for the Jimny product line

The Jimny’s K15B engine, manual transmission that’s an evolution of the unit used in the Gypsy and 4-speed automatic transmission have saved a lot of money in developmental costs for Suzuki.

The powertrains used in the Thar have been freshly developed at great cost to Mahindra. While they are in use/will be used in multiple products (Thar, upcoming Thar 5-door, XUV700, Scorpio-N), Mahindra has a tighter timeline to get the most profitability out of them, especially considering the increased pressure to shift to electric/electrified powertrains.

What do you make of the prices of the Maruti Jimny? Were you someone who changed their car buying plans or cancelled a booking for the SUV after the price reveal? Let us know in the comments below!
