Telegram’s People Nearby feature allows you to find other active users near your location who are browsing the same content or participating in local group chats. The purpose is to connect with people who share similar interests.
However, there are two main issues with this feature:
- Increased risk of unwanted attention: By revealing that you’re online to individuals nearby, you make yourself vulnerable to potential scammers and individuals with malicious intentions. It’s highly likely that someone will try to engage with you to sell you something.
- Potential privacy concerns: This feature has the potential to reveal your exact location in real life. This poses a significant risk, especially for those dealing with stalkers or abusive individuals. Even if you don’t have a stalker, it’s unwise to expose your location to strangers.
