We’ve seen numerous these from producers everywhere in the world, and now Chinese model Niu is ready to launch its RQi electrical motorbike in Europe.

Niu Finally Releases The RQi Electric Motorcycle In Europe

The Niu RQi is under no circumstances a brand new idea. In truth, it has been round for almost 4 years now. First unveiled at CES 2020 in Las Vegas, the RQi appeared promising, with its spectacular 40-horsepower output and 100-mile-per-hour high velocity. Unfortunately, a slew of delays triggered Niu to be unable to launch the bike, and finally, the RQi was revised to be extra beginner-friendly. In 2022, the RQi was showcased with a decrease energy output, much like that of a 125cc motorbike – a transfer clearly meant to cater to Europe’s newbie riders with A1 licenses.

Niu Finally Releases The RQi Electric Motorcycle In Europe

With that being mentioned, it appears that evidently Niu is now lastly able to launch the RQi, at the very least in Europe. Like the revision made in 2022, the RQi, sadly, retains its beginner-friendly efficiency figures with a 7,500-watt electrical motor outputting the equal of about 11 horsepower. The motor boasts tons of torque, with a claimed 450 Nm (330 pound-feet) positive to boost just a few eyebrows. Niu says that the RQi has a high velocity of 110 kilometers per hour (about 68 miles an hour), and may rocket from a cease to 50 kilometers per hour (31 miles per hour) in a swift 2.9 seconds.

As for the battery, it is powered by not one, however two 72-volt, 36-ampere-hour models with a mixed vary of about 200 kilometers (125 miles) per cost. Five Bikes Piqued Earl’s Interest At EICMA 2023

EICMA’s over. The grandest show in the two-wheeled industry has come and gone and this year was quite spectacular. I’m extremely excited for next year and among all the bikes that debuted either as concepts or production models, five really stuck out whether for better or for worse.

Some bikes were undoubtedly good, while others stirred up a bit of controversy. While Enrico and Janaki both loved the bikes that they listed, I’m listing five that either caught my eye, made me question, or split an entire fan base. You could say that these are the bikes that I loved thanks to the stir they caused whether on a personal level or an industry level.

In short, I like a bit of drama. These are the five bikes that I found interesting to cover at EICMA 2023.

2024 MV Agusta LXP Orioli

MV Agusta LXP Orioli

Let’s start off with something easy. I simply love the LXP. Some people are so-so with the model, while I think it looks fantastic. MV’s middleweight adventurer is finally out and after years of teasing and coverage and even a 5.5 model that was canceled, a snide remark from KTM’s head, and even a rename, we finally have it. Five hundred for the initial run and then a full production version after that.

The look of the LXP Orioli strikes me, and so does the inline-three cylinder motor that the brand fitted. Positioned as a versatile luxury adventure bike, it’s meticulously designed to be comfortable, but still capable. Also well-equipped, the bike has everything that you could want from a modern adventure-touring machine which also includes an inertial measurement unit and more. In fact, there were so many features listed in the press release of this model that I really had to sit down and unpack everything that MV Agusta had to say about it. It took me a while to write the article for this model, and as the first bike I covered from the show, it definitely left an impression.

2024 MV Agusta Superveloce 1000

2023 MV Agusta Superveloce 1000 Serie Oro

While the LXP was more or less loved by all, the Superveloce 1000 that was also showcased split the fan base. On the one side, quite a number of people liked the design that MV displayed at this year’s show. However, others weren’t too happy with it. The Superveloce 800 was a well-liked model thanks to its simplicity and its neo-retro aesthetic. However, some purists didn’t take too kindly to the design of the 1000, writing it off as too complicated and not in keeping with the original design philosophy of Massimo Tamburini.

Simplicity is key, and without going into it too deeply, the bike was simply overly designed with a lot of cuts, curves, and too much complexity. The Superveloce 800 had a simple and elegant design, but the Superveloce 1000 wilded out, so to speak. You could say that MV overdid it, but then again I do consider that the brand does up the ante when it comes to their liter-class motorcycles. If you ask me, I think that it’s a hair too wild. While I still like the fact that the Superveloce nameplate is getting another model, it’s not what I was expecting given how the Superveloce 800 impacted me when I first saw it.

2024 KTM 990 Duke

2024 KTM 990 Duke - Parked

I am a KTM 790 Duke owner, and I like how my bike looks. I am biased here. I also used to own a 390 Duke, which I also liked. When the 2024 KTM 390s came out, I was quite excited to see what the Austrian brand had up its sleeve for its next-generation middleweight. I will admit that Team Orange’s design language is not for everyone, and while it appeals to me, it definitely won’t tickle everyone’s fancy, and it’s not as if the 790 Duke was a universally loved bike design-wise.

Watch: Spending 24 Hours In Canyonlands National Park

Exploring the country on motorcycles can be an adventure filled with breathtaking views and endless roads. As The Magpie Flies, a brother-sister duo, combines moto camping with their bike rides, and one of their recent adventures took them to Canyonlands National Park in Utah.

Canyonlands National Park is a vast landscape of red rocks and endless roads, offering a campsite where the duo spent 24 hours. They embarked on their adventure with the “trusty” Suzuki V-Strom 650 and a 2022 Honda Africa Twin borrowed from Honda America.

The video begins with their travel and camping experiences during the first few hours of their 24-hour stay. After enjoying a delicious meal at the campsite and a good night’s sleep, they set off to explore Needle Top Post in Canyonlands. Their first stop is the Needles Visitor Center.

The Needles district of the park covers over 300,000 acres and requires a vehicle with high ground clearance to navigate. Fortunately, the duo’s adventure bikes are well-equipped for the terrain. The area also offers a network of hiking and backpacking trails for outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy.

The pair also explores Cave Spring Trail, a hiking route that showcases historic sites. After a full day of hiking and exploration, they return to their campsite for another restful night’s sleep.

Watch This Rusty 1960s Jawa Undergo Meticulous Restoration

Part of the joy of the two-wheeled lifestyle is working on our motorcycles. There’s something satisfying about doing maintenance, repair, and restoration work yourself, even if doing so doesn’t result in a perfect finish. On top of that, we get to save some money in the process. Needless to say, like all things in life, wrenching on bikes is a learning process, and takes lots of time and skill.

Personally, with a garage consisting entirely of modern motorcycles, I don’t find myself wrenching on my bikes all too often, save for the periodic oil change, brake pad replacement, and whatnot. My friends who own classic bikes, on the other hand, seem to be working on their never-ending projects incessantly. I live vicariously through them, and of course, the multitude of satisfying restoration videos you can find on YouTube.

Watch This Rusty 1960s Jawa Undergo Meticulous Restoration

Speaking of which, a recent video posted on YouTube by a channel called Rescue Story has had me watching it over and over again. The video shows the meticulous restoration process of a rusty old 1960s Jawa, and the detailed step-by-step procedures needed to bring it back to its former glory. The bike is obviously in terrible shape, and looks like it’s been exposed to the elements for years. The video is curated in a very satisfying, ASMR style, so it makes for some easy watching, even if it’s more than 20 minutes long.

As with all restoration videos, it starts with a complete teardown of the bike. After each and every single part has been dismantled, the builder goes on to work on the engine, where the crankcases are dismantled. The cylinder head and other parts of the engine are then given a thorough clean with a variety of chemicals, and then painted and finished to look brand new. The engine is then put back together, looking as fresh as it did back when it was brand new.

What I found particularly interesting was the restoration of the fuel tank. Once it was taken apart, it was clear that it was in terrible condition thanks to the sheer amount of rust that had built up. While other people would resort to sourcing a replacement tank in better condition, Rescue Story, as its name suggests, decided to rescue it. There were quite a lot of procedures involved – from removing all the rust, to buffing the bare metal surfaces, and handling a couple of dents and dimples. One of the coolest parts just has to be the D.I.Y. chrome plating they did on the tank garnishes.

The video concludes with a bunch of beauty shots of the fuel tank, strangely surrounded by nature as if it were some sort of wild animal. It seems that the whole bike isn’t finished yet, as the video only shows the restoration of the engine and fuel tank. This leaves the frame, wheels, suspension, and pretty much everything else still left to cover.

Indeed, restoration projects like this can take months, if not years to complete. As such, the saying “it’s not the destination, it’s the journey,” really applies here. I’ll be sure to check back once the rest of the build has been shared. In the meantime, check out Rescue Story’s YouTube channel for a bunch of other satisfying restoration projects.

Starting Them Young: Husqvarna And GASGAS Launch Kids Balance E-Bikes

When it comes to learning how to ride a bicycle or motorcycle, kids these days have it easier than ever. Manufacturers like Husqvarna and GASGAS are developing bikes that help young riders shorten their learning curve and become the next generation of elite riders.

One popular trend is the use of balance bikes, which eliminate pedals and allow kids to focus on mastering the fundamentals of riding on two wheels. This not only prepares them for cycling, but also for motocross riding, as the basic skills of balancing a two-wheeler are the same. Husqvarna’s balance bikes, in particular, have become popular among kids and parents.

Both Husqvarna and GASGAS, which are part of the Pierer Mobility group, have recently released new balance electric bikes for kids. These bikes provide a suitable platform for kids up to 12 years old to learn the basics of balance, body positioning, and throttle control. Let’s take a closer look at each of these bikes.

GASGAS MC-E 1.20

The GASGAS MC-E 1.20 is a balance bike equipped with three power modes to cater to different skill levels. It features a TIG-welded aluminum frame that can withstand impacts, giving kids a sturdy base to learn and make mistakes. The bike is equipped with a Manito J-Unit Machete fork, providing 80mm of suspension travel, and hydraulic disc brakes for reliable stopping power.

Husqvarna EE 1.20

The Husqvarna EE 1.20 shares the same concept as the GASGAS bike but comes in Husqvarna’s signature white colorway. It also has three power modes, with the lowest setting limiting the speed to 16 km/h. As kids gain confidence, they can increase the speed to a maximum of 32 km/h in Advanced mode. The bike is suitable for kids up to 12 years old, with a minimum inseam requirement of 60cm for confident foot placement. Like the GASGAS bike, it features a Manitou J-Unit Machete fork and hydraulic disc brakes.

The Husqvarna EE 1.20 balance bike is already available at select Husqvarna dealerships, while the GASGAS MC-E 1.20 will be available at GASGAS showrooms starting August 2023. For pricing and availability information, contact your nearest Husqvarna or GASGAS dealer as prices may vary by region.

Peugeot Invests In French Electric Motorcycle Firm DAB Motors

There’s no denying that electric motorcycles are the future of two-wheeled mobility. With rapid growth in Europe and Asia, electric two-wheelers are foreseen to become more popular in the coming years. Indeed, nearly all manufacturers big and small are developing new EV platforms, the latest of which is French motorcycle brand Peugeot Motocycles.

We’ve talked about Peugeot Motocycles quite a bit in recent years. The historic French marque seems to be undergoing a resurgence, rolling out new models left and right, in multiple markets. Indeed, thanks to funding from German company Mutares, the French brand has been given a second lease on life. That being said, with electric motorbikes apparently the next big thing, it’s no surprise that Peugeot wants in on the action, too.

Peugeot Introduces Limited Django 125 And 150 Bordeaux Edition In Japan

In an article by Le Repaire Des Motards, Sébastien Mas, President of Peugeot Motorcycles explained, “The main driver of our collaboration lies in the DAB brand promise: to deliver thrills on two wheels to the bold. This powerful commitment has led us to recognize the need to venture into the electrical field, relying on our strong heritage of 125 years of know-how. In addition, the essence of both brands is rooted in production in France. We are very proud to manufacture our premium ranges locally, to preserve our expertise and to contribute to the growth of French industry.”

Instead of developing a new EV platform from the ground up, Peugeot has decided to invest in another company to carry out its EV-focused endeavors. Said company is fellow French firm DAB motors. Founded in 2019, the Biarritz-based company started out building custom motorcycles. In 2021, it entered the EV space with its Concept-E, an electric motorbike with minimalist, sporty design akin to that of a supermoto. It was designed as a 125cc-equivalent in terms of performance.

Dab Motors Unveils Concept-E Electric Naked Bike

On paper, a machine like the DAB Concept-E is a perfect fit for what Peugeot wants to achieve in the future. Peugeot, being the established company that it is, undoubtedly has the expertise when it comes to sales, distribution, and mass-production. Meanwhile, DAB has the technological know-how to make impressive, premium electric motorcycles. That being said, you can probably see where this is going – the partnership could very well result in the commercialization of the Concept-E, or some other equivalent electric two-wheeler.

On the DAB Motors side fo the equation, company founder and CEO Simon Dabadie stated in the same report, “I am delighted to be associated with a historic manufacturer such as Peugeot Motocycles. This strategic collaboration will allow DAB Motors to take a new step. With the support of Peugeot Motocycles, DAB Motors will soon mass-produce its electric motorcycles and deliver them worldwide.”

Now, whether DAB will retain its branding, or be absorbed into Peugeot as a whole, remains to be seen. What we do know, is that DAB is set to put up its production line in Peugeot’s large factory in Mandeure, France. The end-goal is to have an electric motorcycle that’s affordable, practical, and 100-percent made in France. Peugeot now holds a majority share in DAB Motors, so expect to hear quite a lot more about this partnership in the future.
