Non-ULEZ-compliant classics at discounted prices

If you don’t live in London, you might not think that the Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) is something you should be concerned about. However, it can actually be good news if you’re looking for a great deal on a car.

The ULEZ is expanding to the outer border of the M25 on August 29th, which means that thousands more motorists will be charged to drive non-compliant cars. As a result, the market for these cars has been flooded, causing prices to drop significantly.

Now is the perfect time to buy a comfortable diesel for your daily commute, a small supermini for quick trips to the store, or even to invest in a potential future classic car.

Using these non-compliant cars outside of built-up areas should not make you feel guilty. The open air in the countryside dilutes the toxic NOx emissions to a level that is not a public health risk.

In addition, many of the diesel cars that don’t meet the NOx standards for the ULEZ actually emit less CO2 than their petrol counterparts. Since CO2 contributes to climate change rather than respiratory illnesses, a good diesel car is often a better choice for the environment.

Here is our selection of the best deals on non-ULEZ cars within a 25-mile radius of central London.

2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class First Drive: Innovations On the Road

The latest addition to the E-Class lineup is the Routines feature. This unique feature allows you to personalize your driving experience. You can customize the cabin lighting, adjust the HVAC settings, and even control the seat heaters based on specific triggers like external temperature. Say goodbye to manually adjusting these settings!

Mercedes is also looking to integrate Routines with their ChatGPT technology, which was recently introduced in beta. While this integration might sound unsettling to some, it will likely remain optional for the time being.

Now, let’s shift gears and focus on performance. In the United States, the new E-Class will be available in two versions. The first is the E350 4MATIC, equipped with a 2.9-liter inline-four cylinder engine and a 48-volt mild hybrid system. This combination delivers 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Moving up the lineup, we have the E450 4MATIC, featuring a larger 3.0-liter inline-six engine and the same hybrid system. This more powerful option offers an impressive 475 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. It’s worth noting that every E-Class model comes with hybrid technology, although a plug-in model will not be initially available in the United States.

Both models are paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and feature 4MATIC all-wheel drive for enhanced traction and stability.

Toyota GR Corolla, Subaru WRX, And Honda Civic Type R Go Head-to-Head in Hot Hatch Drag Race

The popularity of SUVs may be on the rise, but the hot hatch segment continues to be a fan favorite. If you’re looking for a vehicle that combines sports car performance with the practicality of a hatchback, there are plenty of options to choose from. In a new video, Sam CarLegion on YouTube compares three of the most popular hot hatches on the market.

The Toyota GR Corolla, Subaru WRX, and Honda Civic Type R face off on the drag strip to determine which one is the fastest in a series of drag races. While this video is not a scientifically rigorous test, all three cars featured have manual transmissions and are 2023 models. However, it’s worth noting that the engines differ significantly.

Watch Amazon Delivery Van Cross Drag Strip In Front Of Cars Racing

Imagine being at a race track, enjoying the performance of your vehicle in a controlled environment, when suddenly, an Amazon delivery van appears on the drag strip. This unlikely sight was captured in a video recently shared on Reddit, and it has left many people baffled.

The incident reportedly took place at Clarksville Speedway in Tennessee, although the exact date is unknown. Judging by the darkness in the video, it seems the van driver may have been running behind schedule.

Fortunately, this particular drag strip is an eighth-mile track, which means slower speeds compared to a quarter-mile facility. The driver of the drag car in the video managed to stop without any issues. However, the van driver had a moment of panic as they realized they had entered the track. Brake lights can be seen, and the driver visibly slows down, even reaching for a horn that doesn’t exist.

Motor1.com attempted to confirm the location and gather more information about the incident but was unable to reach the Reddit member or the race track for comment. According to comments on the post, there is new home construction occurring nearby, leading to speculation that the van driver may have been trying to reach that location.

Instances of GPS fails are not uncommon, and some race tracks have an open layout that makes them easily accessible. However, it remains a mystery as to how a delivery driver could miss a brightly lit race track with loud cars speeding down it.

Hyundai Tucson Facelift Spied Testing Towing A Trailer

The updated Hyundai Tucson is creating a lot of buzz as the company keeps it heavily camouflaged during this test session. The prototype of the refreshed South Korean model was recently spotted in the Austrian Alps, towing a small trailer.

Due to the thick disguise, it’s hard to make out any changes to the exterior. However, a sneak peek of a new grille can be seen at the front. While the overall shape remains the same, there seems to be a new grille pattern. As for the headlights, it’s difficult to confirm if any tweaks have been made.

Singer Teases Porsche 911 With Bold Design Features

Singer Vehicle Design has given us a sneak peek at its latest reimagined Porsche 911, and it’s definitely catching attention. The vehicle is set to make its debut on Tuesday, June 27th.

The teaser image reveals the rear fender, which boasts a wide flare with a prominent front intake. And let’s not forget about the massive wing sitting on the rear deck. The bright orange color adds an extra touch of flair.

One of the most intriguing features of this Porsche 911 is its center-lock wheels. They have a captivating basketweave pattern with a deep dish design. The color transitions from bronze to dark green, complemented by a set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

Unfortunately, there are no further details available at this time. However, looking at Singer’s previous builds can give us an idea of what to expect. The company is currently focusing on turbocharged vehicles and has temporarily paused orders for the 911 Classic Study. As of early 2022, Singer had 70 reservations for turbocharged models, which are equipped with either a 450 horsepower or 510 horsepower twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter flat-six air-cooled engine. These vehicles offer a choice between rear- or all-wheel-drive layouts and come with a six-speed manual gearbox.

When it comes to customization, Singer allows buyers to tailor their car to their preferences. From suspension tunes to interior amenities, customers have a wide range of options. Whether you want a comfortable grand tourer for the road or a more aggressive track-focused setup, Singer can deliver.

Judging by the bold design elements like the fender flares and wing, it seems that this particular customer opted for a track-honed setup. However, it’s also possible that they desired a comfortable ride with a striking exterior appearance.

Singer previously caught our attention with the debut of its first reimagined 911 Cabriolet. This model featured a Cadiz Red body, a prominent whale-tail spoiler at the rear, and a cabin adorned with a combination of black leather and red plaid, accented by wood trim. Its turbocharged engine churned out 510 horsepower.

Volkswagen Teaser Could Be Tiguan, Promises “Something New” On June 15

We know Volkswagen has something cooking with the Tiguan. Numerous camouflaged prototypes have been caught on camera, using clever disguises to make the next-gen model look much like the current one. Now, a curious teaser video from Volkswagen shows a simple sketch of a vehicle against a blue background, and it could be our first taste of how the new SUV will look. Moreover, we may not have long to wait before learning more.

Posted as a YouTube short on the VW News channel, we get only a small clip showing white lines on a blue background. However, the menagerie of lines come together at times to show a vehicle. Our screengrab at the top of this article catches two prominent moments, showing the grille and a good portion of the front. One might think we’re looking at a car, but the outline of roof rails confirms this is something a bit bigger.

Volkswagen Teaser

Beyond the visuals, VW delivers a bit of interesting information as well. We’re promised “something new” which isn’t exactly a revelation here, but then a date of 15 June 2023 pops up. A quick glance at the calendar shows us that’s tomorrow as this article publishes. We haven’t heard anything regarding an imminent debut, so it’s unclear if we’re about to get full disclosure or some new information regarding future announcements.

If this is the next-gen Tiguan, we can expect a familiar overall shape that embodies an evolutionary approach to design. The fact that VW can apply stickers to various areas on prototypes to make them look like the current model means the formula won’t be shaken too much. We have identified smaller headlights, and we think a thinner upper grille is in store, augmented by a larger grille down low. The teaser video supports these theories, and previous spy photos have revealed a completely revamped interior with a larger tablet-like center display.

More news is coming soon, so stick with Motor1.com as we’ll have all the latest VW info as soon as it breaks.

Porsche 911 Carrera Cup Crash From 2015 Immortalized In 1:43 Scale Model

Something strange happened on September 26, 2015, that transcended the world of auto racing to become an incident of global interest. At the start of a Porsche one-make race in Spain, a small collision took place on the first lap that saw one 911 come to rest neatly atop another one. Now, that bizarre collision is captured in a detailed 1:43 scale diorama depicting the corner, skid marks galore, and the two damaged race cars.

Spark Models is the company behind this build. Known for producing a wide range of diecast race car replicas, this could be the first time any company designed and created a specific crash in such detail. The two Porsche 911 race cars aren’t simply stacked either – Spark Models accurately recreates the liveries for the two cars involved in the crash, then applies simulated damage to each that’s also race accurate. As for the track, it represents turn three at Circuito de Navarra in Spain though the final resting spot for the cars isn’t as accurate as the cars themselves. Still, we get the idea. And we love it.

To refresh your memory, the actual crash occurred less than 30 seconds into the Porsche Carrera Cup France race. Drivers Jules Gounon, Alexander Cougnud, and Joffrey de Narda were fighting for the lead when Cougnud tapped De Narda. This spun De Narda (driving the no. 9 Porshce) around just ahead of the very sharp turn three at Navarra, leaving De Narda in the unwelcome position of facing traffic.

Still, we doubt he expected to see the underside of Gounon’s no. 169 driving up the windshield. Wheel-to-wheel contact with Cougnud sent Gounon airborne just enough to clear De Narda’s nose. Momentum carried the green-trimmed Porsche neatly to the roof, with the nose resting on the rear wing. The balance was near perfect, though Gounon did suffer minor injuries. As for De Narda, repairs were made and he was back on track to score a victory later in the race weekend.

On its website, Spark Models states the 1:43 scale model of the crash is still in development. However, preorders through retailers such as Hobby Search have begun, showing a price of approximately $155 with an estimated release date of September 2023.
