VAUXHALL RESPONSE TO SPRING BUDGET 2024

  • Vauxhall responds to the shortage of incentives supplied within the Government’s Spring Budget to stimulate the UK’s transfer to electrical automobiles
  • Vauxhall has joined the FairCharge group’s name for fairer VAT coverage on public charging to match charging charges at dwelling so these with out off-street charging usually are not penalised

James Taylor, Managing Director, Vauxhall, commented: “Today’s Spring Budget has not delivered the acceleration wanted to cease the UK’s transition to electrical automobiles from stalling.

“If we’re to satisfy the rightly formidable targets specified by the Government’s Zero Emission Vehicle mandate (80% of all automobiles offered to be electrical by 2030) then there must be incentives for personal automobile patrons to make the swap to electrical as there are within the majority of European nations.

“Vauxhall will already provide its complete automobile and van line-up as electrical by the top of this yr and has quite a few extremely aggressive affords out there however we can not drive demand alone.

“Whilst there are sturdy incentives for firm automobile drivers to make the swap to electrical – together with for these selecting luxurious automobiles – the non-public purchaser who needs a extra attainable small or household automobile receives nothing.

“Furthermore, if you happen to can cost your electrical automobile at dwelling with off-street parking then you’ll pay 5% VAT in your electrical energy. If you don’t have a driveway and depend on public chargers then you’ll pay 20% VAT in your electrical energy. We help the FairCharge marketing campaign for a fairer taxation on charging.

“We would call on the Chancellor to urgently set up purchase incentives to stimulate the electric vehicle market and review the unfair taxation on public charging so that the UK isn’t left behind in the race to more sustainable motoring.”

BMW Vision Neue Klasse Concept: A Minimalist EV With A Giant Head-Up Display

The BMW i Vision Dee concept provided an early glimpse at the future of BMW electric vehicle design, radical as it was. Now a “Neue” interpretation of that same concept is debuting at the IAA Mobility 2023 show in Munich with more cues and features that will actually make it to production.

The BMW Vision Neue Klasse concept bears the same basic shape as the former i Vision Dee, but there’s more substance than before. A slanted “shark nose” hood highlights the front of this vehicle, with two illuminated horizontal kidney grilles extending all the way out to the end of the bumper, housing slanted LED running lights at each corner. BMW says it uses 3D printing for a number of the lighting elements introduced here.

An upturned black diffuser at the base of the bumper gives the Neue Klasse concept a sportier aesthetic compared to the i Vision Dee, and new 21-inch wheels replace the neon green dinner plates while also paying tribute to the classic cross-spoke design found in BMW racing cars. The elongated taillights mimic the kidney-grille-and-headlight combo on the front end, while BMW’s new minimalist logo is printed onto the front and rear fenders; there’s not a single metal badge to be found.

BMW describes the design as “almost monolithic,” and that sleekness yields a 30 percent increase in range and 25 percent more efficiency than any of the automaker’s current EVs. Pair that with BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive technology underneath, and the Neue Klasse concept promises 20 percent higher density, 25 percent more efficiency, and 30 percent faster charging.

Range figures aren’t provided, but BMW has previously stated that 621 miles (1,000 kilometers) of range aren’t out of the question. The new eDrive system will be manufactured at BMW’s plant in Debrecen, Hungary, which is currently under construction and promises to be free of fossil fuels.

Inside the Neue Klasse is BMW’s latest iDrive infotainment interface projected onto a funky parallelogram-like touchscreen. Current features like the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant and multifunction steering wheel buttons are still present, but BMW is also introducing what it calls “Panoramic Vision.”

Panoramic Vision will debut on the production Neue Klasse and it acts as an accent to the traditional head-up display. Graphics will be projected directly in the driver’s line of sight and across the entire width of the windshield, with the traditional head-up display still available and offering basic readouts. Both the driver and front passenger will be able to interact with the Panoramic Vision function using gesture controls.

The Neue Klasse’s cabin, as a whole, opts for a minimalist retro aesthetic. Lovely corduroy seats in mustard yellow match yellow accents on the dash and door panels. The squircular steering wheel and screen are the only two elements atop the dash continuing the minimalistic theme; designers wanted the cabin to be free of fluff, which means no decorative chrome or leather. That keeps the design simple and improves the carbon footprint during production. Even the front seats are fixed to the floor by a single bracket, which frees up legroom in the rear for passengers in the two lounge-like seats.

The BMW Neue Klasse will go into production in 2025 at BMW’s Debrecen, Hungary, facility with the EV expected to be on the road by 2026. Details like pricing, range, and charging will be made public once the production version debuts in full.

2024 Skoda Kodiaq Interior Partially Exposed In Fresh Spy Shots

Recently, Skoda revealed some important technical details about the new Kodiaq. Now, our spies have managed to get a sneak peek inside the cabin of the Czechia’s Volkswagen Tiguan. The photos show a large infotainment display sticking out from the dashboard, with no conventional controls around it except for an on/off button below in the center.

The central air vents, which used to flank the touchscreen, have been repositioned by Skoda below the display. There is a piece of cloth on the center console, which raises speculations about separate controls for the climate settings instead of having to adjust everything through the infotainment system. Additionally, keen-eyed readers will notice that the gear selector has been moved to a stalk on the steering wheel, creating more space between the seats for additional storage.

From the archive: on this day in 1933

As the 1990s began, MG was facing a difficult situation. The new owner, British Aerospace, had finally allocated the budget to create a new roadster that the public had been eagerly awaiting. However, the new model, known as the F, would not be ready until 1995. Meanwhile, Mazda was experiencing tremendous success with its new MX-5, and TVR was set to revitalize its roadster.

In response to these challenges, MG decided to restart production of its iconic B model. Despite being discontinued for over a decade and originally dating back to the 1960s, the B was given a few modern upgrades on a limited budget. British Motor Heritage provided the B shell for classic restorations, and MG added new bumpers, wider tracks, new dampers, Rover’s 190bhp 3.9-litre V8 engine, and a more sophisticated wood and leather interior.

MG openly acknowledged that the new RV8 was “a recreational pursuit that just happens to take the form of a motor car.” In our review, we noted that the RV8 would not appeal to buyers looking for dynamic performance in a British sports car. Despite giving the RV8 only two stars due to its outdated feel, we acknowledged that it could be suitable for a particular type of driver. We compared it to TVR’s new Chimaera, which offered better performance, a larger boot, a roomier cabin, and less wind noise for just £800 more.

In the end, only 330 RV8s were sold in the UK, highlighting its limited success in the market.

Asian royals spending billions on hoarding rare cars

After gaining independence in 1984, Brunei experienced an economic boom, and its royals indulged in a lavish lifestyle. Sultan Hassanal and Prince Jefri secretly amassed a massive collection of luxury cars, many of which were custom-made. In 1993, reports indicated that the Brunei royals owned over 100 Rolls-Royce vehicles, a similar number of Ferraris (including five F40s), three out of the seven Cizeta V16Ts ever built, and a staggering 63 new Mercedes-Benz 600 SECs, which were given as gifts to dinner guests. Although the Bruneian embassy downplayed the size of the collection, evidence and rumors continued to surface in the following years.
