Tiny Off-Road Camper Built From Scratch Is A Tent On Tank Treads

This camper project is a DIY creation that may not be suitable for long trips. With a top speed of around 5 mph, it is not meant for traveling on roads. Additionally, due to its wooden frame and low ride height, it is not ideal for high-speed traffic. However, these limitations don’t make this homemade camper any less impressive.

In fact, what sets this project apart is the fact that it is entirely built by a YouTuber known as “Quiet Nerd.” The construction begins with a frame made of 2x4s, with additional support added through metal corner braces. The rear axle and 24-volt electric motor are connected using a single chain, and instead of traditional tires, small tracks are used for off-road mobility.

At the front, tires are attached to spindles and connected to a custom steering system. The camper’s “body” is a small plastic greenhouse that fits perfectly on the wooden chassis. This greenhouse design helps reduce weight and provides clear visibility, while a yellow tarp ensures privacy.

Essentially, this camper is a motorized tent on a wooden platform with steering capabilities and reverse functionality. It features front and rear lights, a roof-mounted fan for cooling, and is powered by a single 12-volt car battery with a safety shut-off switch. Inside, there is enough space to stretch out with a sleeping bag and storage bags for personal items, along with a simple propane stove.

Despite its limitations in speed and maneuverability, the camper is demonstrated to handle well in dense forests. While it may not be capable of navigating over fallen trees, it provides a unique camping experience for those who enjoy off-road adventures. Its simplicity and functionality make it an appealing option, especially when compared to larger, more traditional RVs.

The video showcasing the construction process and a night in the woods with the finished camper runs for approximately 40 minutes. It is a testament to the camper’s capabilities and highlights its suitability for outdoor exploration.

Overall, this DIY camper is commendable for its clever use of wood and resourcefulness. If the YouTuber behind it decides to create a larger version in the future, it would undoubtedly generate further interest and excitement among fans of innovative camper designs.

HUSQVARNA TX300 PROJECT BY DICKS RACING: 2-STROKE TUESDAY

The Husqvarna TX300 Heritage project with Dick’s Racing for 2023 aimed to pay homage to Husqvarna’s history while incorporating the latest technological advancements in their 2-stroke off-road competition bikes. Dick Wilk, a seasoned desert racer turned tuner and suspension specialist, collaborated with us on this project, using his expertise to build machines that impress us.

Dick dedicated significant effort to enhancing the suspension. The air fork received his Hybrid AER kit, which includes new valving and a spring setup. The goal was to improve versatility, provide a smoother ride, and achieve better fore-to-aft balance. As for the shock, modifications were made to enhance tractability, improve performance in rough terrain, and offer versatility for both desert racing and woods riding.

For off-road riding, a Seat Concepts Comfort saddle was chosen to enhance comfort, provide better traction, and reduce discomfort. The comfort shape maintains a similar contour to the stock seat at the front, ensuring the rider’s legs are not spread too far apart. However, it tapers towards the mid-point to distribute the rider’s weight over a larger area. The seat cover features four traction ribs and is called the Element.

Dick’s TX300 is equipped with Flexx bars and a Scotts steering damper, complemented by a BRP handlebar mount system.

Custom gold/black wheels were installed along with Dunlop MX33 tires, a Primary drive chain, and sprockets.

Dicks Racing has been continuously improving the AER forks since they were introduced in 2017. For this project, they utilized a Hybrid system that incorporates a new cartridge accepting a spring while still employing the AER cartridge at a significantly reduced pressure (from 140 to 55). The wheels were fitted with black hubs, gold rims, Dunlop tires, and Nitromousse foam inserts.

Wilk considers it the best stock engine for a 300cc bike that he has worked on. The engine underwent a complete disassembly, inspection, and measurements but was left unmodified. This is quite impressive coming from someone who enjoys enhancing engine performance!

The only engine performance modification made was the addition of a Scalvini cone pipe and silencer. Dick’s Racing invested time in developing the suspension, as the new frame required new settings to achieve the desired results. The previous setup was too harsh in rocky conditions and too soft in whoops and G-outs.

Caterham Project V: The Lightweight EV Sports Car We’ve Been Waiting For

If the Caterham Project V makes it to production, it will be the first Caterham car with a conventional roof. The design of this lightweight electric vehicle draws inspiration from the Caterham C120 (which never made it to production) and the Jannarelly Design 1, the brainchild of Caterham’s current chief designer, Anthony Jannarelly. Like other cars in Caterham’s lineup, the Project V is known for its lightweight and simplicity. The goal is to keep the weight of the Project V around 1,190kg (2623 lbs) in the 2+1 configuration, achieved through a carbon fiber and aluminum composite chassis. There will also be an optional 2+2 configuration.

The Project V will be powered by a battery electric powertrain with a 200kW (272PS) single motor in the rear axle. This motor will be accompanied by a 55kWh USOC lithium-ion battery pack with advanced thermal management. With a 150kW DC rapid charger, the battery can be charged from 20% to 80% in just 15 minutes.

Performance-wise, the Project V boasts impressive acceleration, going from zero to 62mph (100kph) in less than 4.5 seconds. It has an estimated top speed of 143 mph (230 kph) and a target range of approximately 249 miles (400km) according to WLTP standards. The Project V will also feature double wishbone suspension at the front and rear with fully adjustable geometry, electrically assisted power steering, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires (19″ at the front and 20″ at the rear), and high-performance brake discs.

Caterham Project V Debuts: A Lightweight, Electric Sports Car

Caterham is set to unveil its latest creation, Project V, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 12. Unlike its iconic roadster, the Seven, Project V is an all-electric sports car, designed to be lightweight and rear-wheel drive. It is expected to be available for purchase in late 2025.

Project V, designed by Anthony Jannarelly, the new Chief Designer at Caterham, was always intended to be an electric vehicle. It is powered by a 200-kilowatt motor located in the rear axle and is equipped with a 55-kWh USOC lithium-ion battery pack. This combination gives the car 268 horsepower and an estimated range of 249 miles. Additionally, it can be rapidly charged from 20 to 80 percent in just 15 minutes using a 150 kW DC charger.

Embracing sustainability with artistic innovation. BMW Brilliance “New Plant Art Project” was officially completed.

  • BMW Brilliance “New Plant Art Project” drives sustainability with the power of art
  • BMW upholds corporate sustainability and contributes to sustainable development with culture and arts
  • Sharing and empowerment are the driving force for BMW and its partners to co-create sustainable social value

Shenyang. Art is an indispensable part of culture and a major driving force for sustainable development. Upholding its long-term commitment to corporate sustainability and its enduring support and passion for art, the BMW Group and BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. (BBA) have partnered with Luxun Academy of Fine Arts (LAFA) in Shenyang to launch the “New Plant Art Project”. After two years of preparation, the project was officially completed recently. With the theme of “sustainability” that is in line with the BMW iFACTORY production strategy implemented in the BMW Shenyang production base, the project has carefully selected 10 remarkable artworks created by 10 young artists, as a unique gift for the 20th anniversary of BMW Brilliance. The 10 artworks, including oil paintings, sculptures, and installations, etc., are exhibited at the expanded area of BBA Plant Dadong and Plant Tiexi Lydia Site.

The BBA New Plant Art Project aims to enhance the awareness of sustainable development among employees and the public through cultural and artistic activities, improve the public’s sensitivity towards sustainable development through the planning and presentation of exhibitions and performances, and foster their environmentally-friendly habits in daily life. Meanwhile, by facilitating the intercultural communication between China and Germany and the fusion of industrial intelligence and contemporary art, the project provides abundant sources of inspiration for young artists and diverse interpretations of sustainability through the unique artistic experiences and innovative narratives.

Upholding corporate sustainability and actively engaging in social undertakings.
BMW believes that companies with true corporate sustainability are ones that deliver value to customers and actively engage in social undertakings, as well as emphasize long-term sustainable development and create long-term value for shareholders and society. BMW has always embraced three pillars of sustainability: economic, environmental, and social sustainability. These three pillars are one organic unity, with economic sustainability as the foundation, environmental sustainability as the prerequisite, and social sustainability as the goal. They enable a company to transform from individual to collective consciousness, maximize its social value, and share its value.

“A good partnership is never solely defined by economic benefits. Today, the sustainable business philosophy and the value created for society have become the key elements to measuring the success of a company,” said Ms. Ilka Horstmeier, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Human Resources, Labour Relations Director. For BMW, No Premium Without Sustainability. It regards sustainability as its core competitiveness and essential premium, which outweighs profitability and is designed to create multi-values for society.

Creating sustainable social value through sharing and empowerment.
In the process of creating sustainable value, BMW places equal importance on the approaches. It adopts a “future-oriented social insight” and joins hands with more partners with the help of “empowerment,” “crossover,” and “social collaboration” to co-create social value. Teaming up with art is one of the effective ways to create sustainability and share the concept.

As an influential corporate citizen, the BMW Group has been involved in supporting hundreds of global cultural projects for more than 50 years to promote the development of art. In China, as early as 2011, the BMW Group initiated its first collaboration with Luxun Academy of Fine Arts and Academy of Fine Arts Munich in terms of Plant Tiexi Art Project. With these projects, including the BMW Brilliance “New Plant Art Project,” BMW offers people an emotional experience to understand sustainability, broadens the horizons of young artists, enriches their professional experience, and inspires their passion for exploration, as well as promotes local cultural cooperation and innovative development.

Dr. Franz Decker, President & CEO of BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd., also shared his thoughts on the New Plant Art Project, “For the past 20 years, we have been committed to establishing mutually beneficial partnerships with the local community, empowering talents, and contributing to the local development. The New Plant Art Project perfectly exemplifies our harmonious connection with the community outside of the factory.”

BMW Brilliance’s persistence in sustainability has been recognized by young artists and recorded in their artworks. The work Time Machine symbolizes the cohesion of people in an enterprise. The diverse substances embedded in the linear cubes embody the change of matters on the same stretch of land as time goes by, which expand the spatial and temporal dimensions of the plant, signifying the transformation of this land from agricultural cultivation to commercial manufacturing while emphasizing the natural connection between the factory and the land.

In the work Silent, the artist depicts its most memorable impression of BBA Plants – minimalistic in color yet orderly in production. During the factory visit, the artist profoundly realized that BBA not only focuses on its own development but also takes the environment into consideration. The environment gets improved along with BBA’s progress so that they both achieve sustainable development.

Meanwhile, Backbone portrays the plant built during the development of heavy industry in Northeast China. The painting of the old plant displayed in the new plant not only builds a bridge of communication between the two eras but represents continuity. The appearance of factories may change, technologies may be iterated, and workers shuttle here and there, but the glory and responsibility they bear will endure, further contributing to the development of the local community.

Working together to create a bright and sustainable future.
Sustainability is about the harmonious coexistence between humans and nature. As Earth is a shared community of life and people are facing common challenges such as global climate changes, biodiversity loss, and environmental pollution, it should be the common goal for members from different fields to pursue: to make more progress in human civilization and balance the relationships among the economy, environment, and society.

As a company deeply rooted in China, BBA will continue to contribute to the local economy and society, defend the culture, communicate sustainable innovation, and protect our beautiful home. It will also implement the shared value of sustainability with more like-minded partners and transform from individual to collective consciousness. While leading the automotive industry towards sustainability, BMW looks forward to sharing its ideas of intercultural communication with more partners, so as to propel China’s sustainable development, foster a harmonious coexistence with nature, and create a driving force for sustainable social value.

This new facility brings together all production, engineering, motorsport, and commercial employees under one roof. The company aims to increase production by 50 percent, to around 750 cars per year.
