Lamborghini hesitates on EV supercars as synthetic fuel future remains uncertain

Lamborghini, known for its commitment to fully electrified models in other parts of its lineup, will hold off on producing battery electric vehicle (BEV) super sports cars until there are clear decisions about the future of synthetic fuels. According to Lamborghini Chairman and CEO Stephan Winkelmann, the company is willing to wait and see before making any commitments.

Winkelmann explained that while synthetic-fuelled sports cars would be a more feasible option for Lamborghini, they need to wait for legislative decisions and global agreement on their viability. The company operates globally and would require widespread acceptance. However, Lamborghini plans to have its everyday cars, such as the Urus SUV and new Lanzador GT, fully electric by the end of the decade. For the super sports cars, Lamborghini intends to go hybrid, with those cars expected to be in production until the early 2030s.

Winkelmann also noted a shift in the preferences of their younger buyers towards sustainability, which influences Lamborghini’s commitment to reducing the brand’s overall emissions. However, he emphasized that the brand’s social responsibility is a significant factor in their decision-making process.

Winkelmann admitted that the demand from their existing sports car customer base for a BEV alternative is currently unknown, as they have yet to broach the subject. Before considering electric options, Lamborghini believes it is essential to demonstrate credibility and prepare the market appropriately. The introduction of the Lanzador concept allows Lamborghini to gauge market readiness.

Despite potential challenges, Winkelmann remains confident about Lamborghini’s transition to electric vehicles, citing their successful decision to go hybrid several years ago when it was met with skepticism. He encourages considering public opinion as a continuous evolution rather than a static viewpoint.

He applied for a leadership position in his department, but initially didn’t pass. However, he didn’t give up and with the support of his supervisors, he applied again and eventually succeeded. Almarza values the support and care he received from his leaders and now as a production team leader, he aims to offer the same support to his team.

A Second Act in Customer Service
Marta Portugues, with a background in hospitality and customer service, transitioned to Toyota to explore new challenges and be closer to her family. Starting as a customer service representative, she leveraged her previous experience to excel in her role. Eventually, she made a lateral move to a customer service representative for Toyota of Puerto Rico and then to a case manager for the East Coast. Portugues appreciates Toyota for giving her the opportunity to try new disciplines and expand her skills.

A Winning Chance   
Charles Briggs, who initially started in the customer service department, moved across different departments within Toyota to explore new opportunities. Along the way, he learned from mentors and supervisors, and now as a leader himself, he enjoys mentoring and helping others develop their skills. Briggs believes in being open to trying new things and continually learning to expand knowledge and grow in one’s career.

An Impressive Introduction 
Daniella Solis, who was initially hired by a third party to work at Toyota event, found herself falling in love with the company and its core values. She joined Toyota as a customer service representative and later transitioned into the digital communications team. Solis appreciates the seamless transition and the support she received from her supervisors and peers. In her current role, she focuses on finding solutions for guests’ issues while ensuring positive interactions.

An Internship That Fueled Success 
Joshua Faison, through co-op opportunities at Toyota, explored different roles and departments within the company. Despite his background in electrical engineering, he took on a role that typically targeted mechanical or chemical engineers. Faison appreciates Toyota for providing opportunities to expand skills and knowledge through training and diverse experiences. He believes that switching between roles and disciplines helps eliminate knowledge gaps and improves overall capabilities.

A ‘Foot in the Door’ Philosophy  
Mikayla Doyle, despite her degree in marketing, started her career at Toyota in a position unrelated to her field of study. However, she saw it as an opportunity to start building her path at Toyota and embraced the experience. She moved from one position to another, always focusing on building her skills and professional network. Doyle recommends joining Toyota’s Business Partnering Groups (BPGs) to connect with professionals from various areas and contribute to the community. She believes that Toyota encourages employees to embrace their authentic selves and actively seek out opportunities that challenge them.

Report: 10,000 Jaguar Land Rover cars stuck waiting for parts

According to a report by Car Dealer Magazine, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) workshops are facing a crisis due to a global shortage of parts. The company has also exhausted its fleet of courtesy cars.

The trade publication reveals that approximately 10,000 customer cars in the UK are currently waiting for parts, with around 5,000 of them off the road at dealerships.

The news was disclosed by Andrew Woolliscroft, JLR’s UK client care director, during a network summit held at the British Motor Museum earlier this month.

Affected models are believed to include the Range Rover Velar and the Land Rover Discovery. The issues originated from JLR’s newest parts facility, Mercia Park.

Woolliscroft informed the summit that there is a backlog of orders at Mercia Park and revealed that they currently have 80 lorries waiting to unload. He expressed frustration at the situation, calling it “unacceptable” and stating that it has nearly paralyzed workshops from functioning properly.

In a statement to Autocar, JLR explained that their efforts to achieve carbon net-zero by 2039 have resulted in temporary delays in parts delivery. They assured that they are working closely with distribution partner Unipart to resolve the issue.

Woolliscroft further stated that JLR expects the situation to improve in about six weeks. However, he noted that they have already run out of cars for clients and space to park the cars awaiting parts.

Some franchise leaders and dealerships expressed their concerns at the network summit, pointing out that these issues have been ongoing for months and that customers are becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the situation.

Woolliscroft assured the summit that JLR is taking comprehensive measures to rectify the problem, with the UK market being the highest priority. It remains unclear if the situation is affecting other international markets as well.
