American electric vehicle (EV) company Lucid plans to enter the UK market in approximately two years, once it completes development programs for new models.

Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson revealed at the LA motor show, where the company unveiled its new Gravity SUV, that the firm needs at least 18 months to prepare for right-hand drive production.

The increased demand for premium electric vehicles, such as the Lucid Air, in specific European markets is a primary motivator for Lucid. However, the company’s current focus is on bringing the Gravity SUV to production and developing subsequent models.

Rawlinson emphasized the significance of the German and UK markets, stating that they are significantly larger than any other country when it comes to luxury EVs. He outlined the challenges of preparing for right-hand drive production and the ongoing prioritization of the Gravity SUV’s development.

Additionally, he mentioned that Lucid’s mid-sized models are scheduled to be available by around 2027, with an estimated starting price of $50,000, and indicated that development is well underway for these models.

When questioned about the possibility of offering the Air in its left-hand-drive form in the UK, similar to Tesla’s approach with the Model S, Rawlinson dismissed the idea, citing low demand and high costs associated with implementing such a strategy. He expressed concern about meeting customer needs with such a limited market impact.

2025 Lucid Gravity Promises Up to 440 Miles of Range, Sub-$80K Starting Price

After years of teasers, Lucid on Thursday finally revealed its first SUV, the Gravity. The all-electric utility vehicle promises a maximum range of over 440 miles and a starting price under $80,000, with production expected to begin in late 2024.

Lucid says the Gravity is a luxury electric SUV without compromise. Inside you’ll find seating for up to seven people or, with the second and third rows folded, more than 112.0 cubic feet of storage space available. The Gravity can handle over 1,500 pounds of payload, and tow up to 6,000 pounds. Without a trailer attached, Lucid claims the Gravity can sprint to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds.

That sports-car-like acceleration is thanks to a new platform developed from the ground up based on the company’s 900-volt electrical architecture. Lucid describes the battery pack as smaller, lighter, and more sustainable, capable of adding up to 200 miles of range in roughly 15 minutes. It’s connected to in-house designed electric motors the company claims are the most power-dense currently in production.

The Gravity can impress off-road, too, with an optional air suspension system Lucid calls Zero Gravity. It can automatically raise and lower itself based on various terrain needs, according to the company. For those who would rather adjust ride height manually, the system offers the ability to do so.

2025 Lucid Gravity Will Debut At LA Auto Show, Production Begins Late 2024

In September 20, 2020, Lucid announced that they will be releasing an SUV called Gravity. However, not much has been revealed about the Gravity since then. But now, Lucid has made an announcement through their social media that Gravity will “make contact” on November 16, just in time for the Los Angeles Auto Show.

According to the teaser post, production of the Lucid Gravity will start in late 2024. So, there is still some time before people can get behind the wheel of this SUV. Previously, Lucid had mentioned that they will unveil the Gravity in 2023 and start production in 2024. With this teaser, the timeframe seems to have narrowed down.

The teaser photo does not reveal much that we haven’t seen before. It shows a slim horizontal taillight on a wide rear gate with a narrower greenhouse above. In a teaser video released in April 2023, we got a clear view of the electric SUV in action, but not from all angles. However, from what we have seen so far, there is a definite resemblance to Lucid’s other model, the Air.
