Cool Details About The Ram 1500 REV You Might Have Missed

The automotive industry is undergoing a rapid transformation, driven by the increasing demand for sustainable and environmentally friendly vehicles. In the realm of electric trucks, the Ram 1500 REV emerges as a potential trailblazer, showcasing a convergence of innovative design and cutting-edge technology.

Designed on Stellantis’ robust STLA Frame platform, the electrified Ram is a masterstroke, blending performance, range, and luxury. With a 654-horsepower electric motor and 620 pound-feet of torque, the Ram 1500 REV delivers an exhilarating performance, reaching 0-60 mph in just 4.4 seconds. Beyond its striking exterior and its versatile interior, here are some cool details you may have missed when the Ram 1500 debuted:

In order to give you the most up-to-date and accurate information possible, the data used to compile this article was sourced from Ram Truck’s website.

The Ram Offers A New Contemporary Face And Saloon-style Doors

The Ram 1500 REV sports a fresh, contemporary “face” that includes updated badging and an animated LED tuning fork headlight design. This new visage sets the Revolution apart from its gas-powered predecessors, signaling its status as a cutting-edge electric vehicle. One of the most eye-catching design elements is the absence of a B-pillar, enabling a grand saloon-style door opening.

Ram Revolution’s Saloon-Style Doors Enhance Aesthetics, Space, And Convenience

This design choice not only enhances the truck’s aesthetics but also contributes to the perception of an even more spacious interior. The cabin itself is actually four inches longer than that of Ram’s gas-powered trucks, and the saloon-style doors further amplify this sense of roominess. The elimination of the B-pillar also facilitates easier entry and exit, particularly when you are seated in the rear.

Saloon-Style Doors Embody Ram Revolution’s Forward-Thinking Design Philosophy

With the wide-opening doors, you can comfortably step into and out of the vehicle without having to navigate around a bulky B-pillar. This design feature is particularly beneficial if you have young children or individuals with limited mobility. In addition to their aesthetic appeal and functional benefits, the saloon-style doors also serve as a symbolic representation of the Ram Revolution’s forward-thinking design philosophy.

This Ram’s Digital Sideview Mirrors Are A Paradigm Shift

The Ram 1500 REV’s sideview mirrors are a testament to the truck’s innovative and technological design. Unlike traditional sideview mirrors that rely on bulky glass panels, the Ram 1500 EV utilizes sleek, compact mirrors that employ a 360-degree camera system to provide you with a clear view of your surroundings. This design choice not only enhances the truck’s aerodynamic efficiency but also sets a new standard for automotive technology.

The Digital Sideview Mirrors Enhance Aerodynamics, Safety, And Display Versatility

This real-time footage from the exterior camera is then transmitted to the 14.2-inch high-resolution displays embedded within the truck’s cabin; the displays can also serve as a tablet or a video game controller. The digital nature of the sideview mirrors offers several advantages over traditional mirrors. Firstly, the compact size of the mirrors reduces drag, enhancing the truck’s aerodynamic performance and potentially improving fuel economy.

Secondly, the digital displays can be customized to display specific information relevant to your needs, such as blind spot warnings and lane departure alerts. Also, 3D printing allows for the creation of complex shapes and geometries with a high degree of precision, making it an ideal manufacturing process for the intricate components of the sideview mirror system. This technology also enables the production of lightweight, durable mirrors that can withstand the rigors of everyday driving.

Electro-Chromatic Roof Transforms Your Driving Experience With Panoramic Views

At the heart of the Ram Revolution concept’s innovative interior is an electro-chromatic roof that attempts to transform the driving experience. This full glass roof, seamlessly integrated with the vehicle’s design, offers a panoramic view of the surroundings while simultaneously providing you with complete control over their exposure to sunlight.

The electro-chromatic panels, embedded within the glass, can be adjusted electronically to transition from completely transparent to a darkened tint, effectively managing the intensity of natural light entering the cabin.

Intuitive Tactile Swiping Technology For Effortless Roof Adjustment

This remarkable feature empowers you and your passengers to tailor the interior ambiance to their preference, whether seeking the warmth of sunlight or a more shaded and relaxed environment. Operated via Ram’s intuitive tactile swiping technology, adjusting the electro-chromatic roof is as simple as a touch.

Integrated into the overhead console, this user-friendly interface allows for seamless control over the roof’s tint, enabling occupants to fine-tune their comfort levels with effortless precision.

Enhancing Comfort, Energy Efficiency, And Embodying Forward-Thinking Design

The electro-chromatic roof not only enhances the cabin’s aesthetics and comfort but also contributes to the Ram Revolution concept’s overall energy efficiency. By reducing reliance on artificial lighting and minimizing heat gain, the roof helps conserve energy, aligning with Ram’s commitment to sustainability. Beyond its practical benefits, the electro-chromatic roof embodies the Ram Revolution concept’s forward-thinking design philosophy.

The “Shadow Mode” Is A Revolution in Hands-Free Truck Operation

The Ram 1500 Revolution EV introduces “Shadow Mode”, a feature that revolutionizes hands-free truck operation. This innovative technology enables the truck to autonomously follow you as you walk ahead, making it an invaluable tool for job sites and hands-free maneuvering in challenging environments. Powered by a suite of sensors and camera technology, Shadow Mode tracks your movements, maintaining a safe distance and adapting to changes in pace and direction.

The Personal Assistant Offers Seamless Voice Control at Your Fingertips

Complementing Shadow Mode is the Ram 1500 REV’s advanced personal assistant, featuring a 3D Ram avatar. This intuitive system responds to voice commands, allowing you to control various vehicle functions. With a simple voice command, users can activate Shadow Mode, close the windows, or play music.

This Ram Redefines Truck Versatility With Smart Cargo Management

The Ram 1500 REV is not just about delivering impressive performance and extended driving range. It also boasts a spacious and adaptable interior that is packed with innovative features, making it an ideal choice for both work and play.

It can seat up to six passengers with its optional third-row jump seats, a unique feature among electric trucks. These foldable seats, seamlessly integrated into the mid-gate, provide additional seating when needed while maximizing cargo space when not in use. The removable lower section of the mid-gate allows for flexible configurations, catering to various passenger and cargo needs.

The Ram Truck Offers Practicality And Convenience On The Go

The Ram 1500 EV introduces a feature called the “frunk hole,” a pass-through that connects the center console directly to the frunk. This innovative design enables the transport of objects as long as 18 feet within the truck, making it ideal for hauling lengthy items like lumber, pipes, or even a pair of skis. While the hole is narrow, it can accommodate a variety of materials, expanding the truck’s cargo versatility.

The Ram 1500 REV’s powered front trunk, or frunk, offers convenient access to additional storage space. Unlike conventional trunks, the frunk features integrated cup holders, adding a touch of practicality and convenience for tailgating or enjoying refreshments on the go. The one-touch open-and-close functionality further enhances user convenience.

To simplify cargo management and ensure objects fit through the frunk hole or other cargo areas, the Ram 1500 REV comes with a user-friendly mobile app. This app utilizes barcode scanning and augmented reality (AR) camera measuring tools to accurately assess object dimensions. Additionally, the app provides visual guidance on how to best position objects within the truck for optimal storage and transportation.

Features for Enhanced Convenience Include:

  • Powered charge-port door located on the driver’s side front quarter panel for effortless charging access
  • Powered tailgate for hands-free loading and unloading
  • Flush-mounted door handles that streamline the truck’s exterior design

In conclusion, the Ram 1500 EV redefines the electric truck experience with its innovative design, cutting-edge technology, and versatile interior. From its futuristic exterior to its user-friendly controls, the Ram 1500 REV embodies innovation, adaptability, and convenience, making it a compelling choice for those seeking the ultimate electric truck.

BMW Unveils AI-Driven Proactive Care Customer Service

BMW is utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) to transform its customer service experience. The automotive industry is undergoing a significant shift due to the integration of AI technology into vehicles, improving safety, efficiency, and overall driving experience. BMW is now taking it a step further with its latest offering, Proactive Care, which combines data and AI to empower BMW vehicles to autonomously identify service requirements and anticipate customer needs ahead of time. The initial applications of Proactive Care are already live, with plans for continuous enhancements in the future.

In the past, BMW vehicles have been transmitting service-related data directly to dealerships, facilitating targeted interactions with customers. However, Proactive Care represents a new approach as BMW takes the initiative to reach out to customers. The company is no longer placing the sole responsibility on customers to contact their BMW partner; instead, BMW reaches out to the customers proactively.

What exactly does Proactive Care offer when it comes to servicing? Through data analysis and the recording of customer preferences, the service provides tailored solutions. BMW ensures that customers are informed via their preferred channels, whether it be through the My BMW app, in-car notifications, email, their chosen dealer, or a call from Roadside Assistance.

Furthermore, Proactive Care also enhances the long-term service experience by providing self-help tips and flexible support to ensure uninterrupted mobility. When a workshop visit is necessary, it even suggests the right dealer within the global network. Features such as online appointment scheduling, personalized service videos, and online payment options are also available.

Proactive Care is a global offering that is available for all BMW models equipped with BMW Operating System 7 or later, starting from version 07/2019. Things You Should Prepare For As A New Electric Car Owner

The electric vehicle revolution is rapidly gaining momentum, driven by impressive technological advancements and commitment to sustainability. Operating an electric vehicle offers a fundamentally different driving experience when compared to driving a gasoline or diesel-powered automobile. Electric vehicles (EVs) rely exclusively on electricity for propulsion, feature cutting-edge technologies, and leave behind zero emissions, contributing to a cleaner environment. However, despite the multitude of advantages, making the switch to electric vehicles involves a distinctive set of challenges and inquiries that every EV owner should carefully address and prepare for.

Explore The Charging Infrastructure And Options

First and foremost, new electric car owners must think about the availability of charging points. While traditional gasoline cars run on fuel, electric vehicles need recharging through charging stations. Fortunately, charging infrastructure has been growing steadily in recent years, with many public charging stations available at malls, parking lots, and along highways. Currently, there are three primary charging options you should consider:

Home Charging

Home charging stands as the most convenient and cost-effective method to recharge your electric vehicle. You’ll require a Level 2 charging station installed at your residence, capable of charging your car overnight or during parking periods. Prior to installation, ensure that your electrical infrastructure can meet the station’s power requirements and consider enlisting the services of a qualified electrician for the installation process.

For individuals residing in apartments or those lacking access to a garage, a viable solution is to acquire a weather-resistant portable outdoor charger equipped with an adequately lengthy cable to reach the nearest power source. Notably, future vehicle models are expected to incorporate wireless charging pads, eliminating the need for cables in certain instances.

Public Charging Stations

Public charging stations are readily available in many urban locales. These stations encompass various charging speeds, with Level 2 chargers being commonplace and DC fast chargers offering swift replenishment. It’s advisable to research the locations of charging stations in your vicinity and along your regular travel routes to ensure convenient accessibility.

Workplace Charging

Certain employers extend the courtesy of workplace charging as an employee benefit. If your workplace features charging stations, make the most of this convenient option to keep your EV charged throughout the workday.

Charging Time May Be Longer Than You Expect

Charging an electric car takes significantly longer than filling up a gasoline vehicle, so be prepared to modify your schedule. The charging time can change if the charger’s power level and your car’s battery capacity are considered. Significantly faster than home chargers, quick charging stations refill a greater percentage of battery capacity.

Home overnight charging should be factored into your car’s charging schedule to guarantee a full tank in the a.m. Taking advantage of off-peak electricity rates is possible with some electric cars due to their timed charging feature.

Make Sure The Electric Vehicle’s Driving Range Meets Your Needs

New electric car owners frequently experience range anxiety. The concern of running out of battery power before reaching your destination or a charging station. Designed with longer ranges, modern electric cars alleviate this concern by being suitable for most daily driving needs. Consider your usual driving habits before investing in an electric vehicle, then choose a model with enough range for both your daily commute and any longer distances. Familiarize yourself with your car’s range estimator and pay attention to how factors like weather and driving style can affect your range.

Electric vehicles have fewer moving parts than traditional gasoline cars, which generally translates to lower maintenance costs. While electric cars are praised for their lower maintenance demands compared to their gasoline counterparts, they do require routine upkeep to ensure peak performance and extended lifespan. You’ll need to keep the battery in good condition, which may involve periodic software updates and, in some cases, coolant system maintenance. Typical maintenance tasks for electric cars encompass:

  • Tire rotations and replacements: Regular tire maintenance is essential for safety and efficiency.
  • Brake inspections: Electric cars use regenerative braking, which can extend the life of brake pads, but they still require occasional checks.
  • Battery health: Keep an eye on your battery’s state of health to detect any early signs of degradation.

Consult your vehicle’s manual for specific maintenance recommendations and schedule regular check-ups with a qualified electric car technician.

Economic Advantages And Government Incentives For EV Adoption

Opting for an electric vehicle brings about a noteworthy advantage: the potential for substantial cost savings. Electric cars outshine their gasoline-powered counterparts when it comes to efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Electric vehicles offer reduced fuel expenses and decreased long-term maintenance requirements, playing an important role in your financial savings.

Additionally, many governments and local authorities offer incentives to encourage the adoption of electric cars. These incentives may include tax credits, rebates, and reduced registration fees. Be sure to research the incentives available in your area to maximize your cost savings as a new electric car owner.

It’s a wise move to install multiple apps for your new electric vehicle. Different apps offer various specialties and functionalities, so diversifying your app collection is a prudent approach. Here are some key recommendations:

  • Manufacturer’s App: Begin with the app provided by the manufacturer of your EV. This app offers valuable information and is typically where you’ll receive important updates related to your vehicle.
  • Charging App: Install a dedicated charging app for when you’re on the move. This app will assist you in locating and accessing charging stations, ensuring you stay charged during your journeys.
  • Journey Planning App: Consider installing an app designed to help you plan your journeys in advance. This proves especially beneficial for longer trips, allowing you to optimize routes and ensure a smooth travel experience.

By incorporating these different types of apps, you can cover all your bases and make the most of your electric vehicle experience.

How to become a motoring journalist

Many people are now asking, “How do I become a motoring journalist?” With the post-Covid work environment being different and the desire for escapism, it’s understandable why this question is being asked more frequently, especially by young individuals. The idea of entering a world filled with fast cars and picturesque locations is appealing, considering the challenges of inflation, homeownership, and remote working.

However, before I answer how to become a motoring journalist, let me ask another question: should you pursue this career?

When I was younger, motoring journalists like Steve Cropley were my idols. However, I never considered becoming one myself because I didn’t believe I was capable. The story of how I ended up in this profession is lengthy and uninteresting. Although every generation tends to say that things have changed, it is true in this case.

Supercar lineup for Autocar Britain's Best Driver's Car 2022

Some aspects have remained the same, or at least similar. First and foremost, becoming a motoring journalist is not a path to quick riches, if any at all. For every Jeremy Clarkson, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of individuals worldwide who make a living in this field but need to accept that their quality of life may not align with their standard of living. However, for those who engage in road testing or similar roles, there are still opportunities to experience fast cars and visit exotic locations.

duPont REGISTRY No. 460 – September 2023

When it comes to symbols of excess, affluence, and influence, six driven wheels on your daily driver have become the new scissor doors. Back in the day, the vertical lift of a Lamborghini’s door instantly telegraphed your place in the social hierarchy: at the top. In today’s car culture, its six wheels on a car otherwise meant to operate with four.

The recently introduced Brabus XLP 900 6X6 is that kind of statement piece. Beginning life as an already impressive Mercedes-AMG G63, the XLP 900 6X6 is the result of some mad scientists at Brabus being given carte blanche to develop the ultimate truck. That’s right, this thing has a bed despite the donor vehicle being a fully enclosed SUV. I suppose making it a pickup is small potatoes after you’ve already decided to add a third driven axle.

We chose the XLP 900 6X6 as this month’s cover car because it reminds us what we love about duPont REGISTRY: turning the page and being arrested by a picture of a car for sale that’s wilder than we could have ever imagined. And yet, it exists, and it’s for sale. That’s the feeling it gives us, and you can read the rest of the story on Brabus’ brutish six-wheeled Mercedes-Benz with a bed on page 14.

This month’s other feature car is wholly different. The Rolls-Royce Spectre is arguably the most significant product the luxury car maker has ever built, but it looks similar enough to the Phantom Coupe it replaces that you might mix up the two. You can’t tell at first glance that enclosed within is the marque’s first all-electric powertrain. Will the Spirit of Ecstasy faithful embrace the brand’s electrified future? We’ll tell you why they should on page 22.

We also spent some seat time with the new BMW M2, an engaging, charming, and decidedly unexpected creation from the people who brought you the 2002. The M2 is a hell of a fun ride, and its front end lacks the oversized double kidney grille that’s appeared on so many other BMWs lately and roiled the brand’s user base. We have nothing to complain about regarding the M2, yet we still have many things to say, which you can read on page 28.

VinFast’s VF9 Has the EV Range, But What About the Quality?

One reason to doubt the VF9 is that it hasn’t been extensively tested on North American roads yet. Currently, it has only been available for purchase in Vietnam, where its parent company, VinFast’s conglomerate, is located. VinFast is a relatively new player in the market, having launched in 2017, and doesn’t have as much EV development experience as major competitors like Tesla, Ford, Chevrolet, and Hyundai. The VF9 has not yet undergone testing by reliable car review sources such as Kelley Blue Book, Motor Trend, and Edmunds.

However, if the VF9 is similar to VinFast’s previous EV, the VF8, its battery range may not justify buying it. In a recent test by SlashGear, the VF8 City Edition Plus faced criticism for various issues. The reviewer found problems with rear visibility, suspension, drivetrain, and electrical systems. There were also complaints about drive assist features being more bothersome than helpful, an uninspiring exterior design, an unattractive interior, and a problematic user interface that heavily relied on touch controls. The VF8 also lacked throttle response from its gas pedal.

Despite the mixed response to the VF8, VinFast remains confident that the VF9 can attract buyers with its extended battery range and other features. Le Thi Thu Thuy, the Global CEO of VinFast, states, “VinFast always strives to bring high-quality products, reasonable prices, and outstanding aftersales services to our consumers globally. The VF9’s 330-mile battery range is one of the best in the market, which confirms our commitment to producing competitive vehicles.”
