The updated MPV based on the Maruti Ertiga has been launched in South Africa with an Innova Hycross-like front profile

Toyota Rumion, a rebadged version of the Maruti Ertiga, is expected to be introduced in the Indian market later this year. The latest version of the Toyota MPV, which was recently launched in South Africa, features several design changes.

India-spec Rumion

Unlike previous Maruti and Toyota models like the Baleno and Glanza, which look almost identical to each other, the newer models have design elements that differentiate their looks. The Rumion, originally introduced as a rebadged Ertiga in 2021, had only a three-bar chrome grille to distinguish it. The 2023 Rumion now has a new front profile that bears resemblance to the Toyota Innova Hycross.

Toyota Rumion Side

The India-spec Rumion is expected to feature the same updated design with a new grille, a different front bumper, and a new set of alloy wheels. The rear and side profiles will remain identical to the previous version of the Rumion, as well as the Ertiga.

Powertrain

Toyota Rumion Manual Transmission

In the international market, the Toyota Rumion is equipped with the same powertrain as the Maruti Ertiga: a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. This engine produces 104PS and 138Nm of torque and is paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission.

The India-spec Rumion is likely to feature the same engine, but it may come with a 6-speed torque converter instead of the 4-speed automatic.

Toyota Rumion Cabin

The Rumion MPV comes equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, cruise control, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, hill hold, vehicle stability control (VSC), and ISOFIX child seat anchors. The India-spec model is expected to have the same features, except for the infotainment unit, which is a 7-inch unit in the Maruti Ertiga.

Price & Rivals

Toyota Rumion Rear

The Toyota Rumion is expected to be launched in India later this year with an estimated starting price of Rs 9 lakh (ex-showroom). It will directly compete with the Maruti Ertiga and serve as an affordable alternative to more premium MPVs like the Toyota Innova Crysta and Kia Carens.
