Hit The Road And Track With Kawasaki’s 2024 Ninja ZX-4R And ZX-4RR

Beginner riders who love sportbikes are in luck as there are now more accessible yet performance-oriented models available. Kawasaki is one brand that offers a good selection of these models, including the popular Ninja 400 and Ninja 650. In 2023, Kawasaki introduced the Ninja ZX-4RR, a small but powerful inline-four sportbike.

In 2024, Kawasaki is expanding its lineup with the addition of the Ninja ZX-4R. The ZX-4R shares many qualities with its double-R sibling, but it is slightly more affordable as it doesn’t include some of the premium features found on the ZX-4RR. The platform has proven to be a great balance of real-world enjoyment and track potential due to its manageable size and weight.

2024 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4RR - Riding

Both ZX-4 models are powered by the same 399cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, inline-four cylinder engine, producing 76 horsepower and 27.7 pound-feet of torque. While these figures may not seem impressive on paper, the sound of the high-revving motor is enough to turn heads both on the street and on the track. The ZX-4RR offers additional technology including a bi-directional quick shifter and premium adjustable Showa front suspension as standard. It comes with a price tag of $10,099 in KRT trim and $9,899 in standard trim. The ZX-4R is priced at $9,399.

For riders looking for a sportbike to cover long distances, while still keeping the Ninja name, Kawasaki offers the Ninja 1000 SX for the 2024 model-year. This model has been around for a while and comes with a comprehensive set of touring-focused technologies, including Kawasaki Traction Control (KTRC), cruise control, and Kawasaki Intelligent ABS (KIBS). It also features a full-color TFT display with smartphone integration through the Rideology app.

The Ninja 1000 SX is powered by the reliable 1,043cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, inline-four cylinder engine that’s also found in the Versys 1000 and Z1000 naked bike. It delivers 140 horsepower and 81.7 pound-feet of torque, providing a confident power delivery on both highways and twisty roads. The 2024 model comes in Metallic Matte Graphite Gray / Metallic Diablo Black and has an MSRP of $13,699.

Restoration of a Yamaha TownMate T90: Transforming a Neglected Bike

The YouTube channel Restoration of Everything specializes in finding rundown bikes in need of some care. Although the channel’s name suggests a focus on sad projects, the process and end results are still satisfying.

One recent restoration project featured an extremely dirty Yamaha TownMate T90 that had clearly seen better days. Judging by the amount of debris surrounding the bike, it had likely been sitting outside for quite some time.

However, the RoE crew took on the challenge and started the restoration process. Despite the lightweight nature of the original TownMate T90, weighing around 222 pounds, this particular bike was missing its seat and likely even lighter. To ensure safety, the crew didn’t rely on just one person to lift it.

Once they brought the bike back to the garage, they began disassembling it to assess the condition. Inside the underbone frame, they found both the wiring harness and a colony of ants curiously emerging (although there could have been worse surprises in a tropical climate).

Unperturbed by the ants, the team calmly dismantled the bike and got to work. They drained the dirty engine oil, fortunately finding no major metal chunks or shavings. Some seized bolts required drilling, but eventually, everything was dismantled for thorough cleaning and examination.

While the engine wasn’t in terrible shape, the cylinder showed enough wear to necessitate a rebore. The team obtained the necessary replacement parts, including some OEM Honda components. After reassembling the engine with proper lubrication, they continued with the restoration process.

Working on the frame, they addressed some rusted metal parts that needed attention. By carefully removing the paint and identifying the areas requiring work, they cut out the damaged sections and skillfully welded in replacement pieces. The next steps included applying body filler, sanding, priming, and painting. Before adding a clear coat, they secured replacement Yamaha TownMate T90 decals.

Although they successfully repaired the steel frame, the plastic leg shield was beyond salvageable. The crew sourced replacement parts to properly rectify that issue and address any other irreparable components. Since the bike was missing a seat, they also acquired a brand new one.

At the end of the project, the once-neglected TownMate T90 had been transformed into a restored and refreshed bike that was ready for a trip to the shops or a ride around town. It now served as a simple and charming means of transportation, saved from becoming scrap thanks to the dedicated efforts of the restoration crew.

Watch Pol Tarrés Soar through a Moroccan Canyon in the Seeker 3 Short Film

Riding is a fantastic way to discover oneself and push personal boundaries, especially during moments of introspection. This sentiment is captured in the third installment of the Seeker film series, featuring the talented hard enduro rider, Pol Tarrés. Tarrés effortlessly maneuvers his Yamaha Ténéré 700 midsize bike, making it appear much simpler than it truly is for us average riders.

In this short film, Tarrés and the Echevarria brothers embark on an adventure that takes them through the awe-inspiring desert landscapes of Morocco. While the previous Seeker film had a narrative storyline, this particular video focuses more on capturing the essence of living in the present moment rather than following a plot.

The film was shot during the team’s participation in the 2023 Morocco Desert Challenge. Tarrés secured a third-place finish in the event, completing it in an impressive time of 23 hours, 41 minutes, and nine seconds. While the result is noteworthy, it pales in comparison to the breathtaking footage captured throughout the journey.

In this film, Tarrés’s goal is to challenge his already impressive skill set and push his limits. From navigating treacherous narrow ledges to conquering sand dunes, every moment captures his determination to go further. The film’s highlight is undoubtedly Tarrés’s incredible jump across a canyon—an extraordinary feat that was attempted only once, as nailing it on the first try left no reason for a second attempt.

On September 8, 2023, a devastating earthquake struck Morocco, resulting in the loss of over 2,000 lives and countless injuries. With a magnitude of 6.8, this was the deadliest earthquake in Morocco since 1960. The Echevarrias and Pol Tarrés dedicated this film as a tribute to the Moroccan people affected by the disaster.

Honda eNy1

The Honda eNy1 is a visually striking car with its optional Aqua Topaz blue paint and sleek design. The slimmed-down headlights, stylish wheel designs, and rear light bar blend seamlessly with the black and chrome exterior trim.

Underneath its exterior, the eNy1 is powered by a 68.8kWh battery that provides a range of 256 miles (WLTP) and can be charged at speeds of up to 78kW. While the charging speed may not be the fastest, Honda has prioritized sustained higher rates over rapid charging figures to prevent battery deterioration and maintain range. Charging the eNy1 from 10% to 80% takes approximately 45 minutes.

This electric car is driven by a front-mounted motor that produces 201bhp and 229lb ft of torque, giving it similar power to rivals such as the ID 4 and Kia Niro EV. It can accelerate from 0 to 62mph in 7.6 seconds.

The eNy1 offers three driving modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport. While Sport mode enhances performance and adjusts the steering, most of the driving experience is done in a combination of Eco and Normal modes, both of which provide sufficient acceleration.

Driving the eNy1 in urban areas is a pleasurable experience with its satisfying power delivery and light steering. It has a smooth suspension that easily absorbs bumps, offering a comfortable ride for both the driver and passengers. The eNy1 delivers better comfort than the Model Y and handles well on winding streets and tramlines. It even performs admirably on off-road dirt surfaces.

Oracle Unveils Police Cruiser Version of the Cybertruck

Electric vehicles (EVs) have become increasingly popular among police departments in the United States, primarily Tesla models. These vehicles offer easier maintenance and the potential for significant cost savings through reduced fuel consumption. For instance, the Somerset Police Department purchased a Tesla Model Y patrol vehicle and estimates it could save $80,000 in fuel and maintenance costs over 10 years.

Tesla has experienced some production and delivery delays for the Cybertruck. However, the company recently announced that deliveries will begin in the coming weeks. During an earnings call, Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed progress on the Cybertruck and expects deliveries to start in late September or early October 2023. Musk has also shared images of the Cybertruck on Twitter.

While the Cybertruck is highly anticipated and likely to be a popular choice among police departments and other organizations, it remains uncertain how many will select it as their next cruiser. Tesla faces competition from other companies interested in producing battery-electric police vehicles, such as Ford with their Mustang Mach-E EV.

The Mustang Mach-E Driver Recognition: How It Works, And Why You Should Use It

The Mustang Mach-E is an electric vehicle (EV) that seamlessly integrates with compatible mobile devices, especially those with Ford’s personal FordPass app. By creating a Ford account and logging into the FordPass app, you can connect your phone to the car and access a range of convenient features through the dashboard infotainment screen.

One useful feature is the ability to mirror navigation from your phone onto the infotainment screen and vice versa. Additionally, you can activate your digital assistant using voice commands and even use your phone as a remote control for controlling entertainment and comfort features in your car.

However, the highlight feature is the driver recognition feature. By linking your FordPass account to your Mach-E, you can save all your personalized driver-side preferences to a digital profile. This includes your seat positioning, mirror positioning, infotainment settings, and more. When you start your car with your phone connected, it automatically adjusts itself to match your saved preferences.

The driver recognition feature not only allows you to restore your preferred settings if someone else has altered them, but it also supports multiple driver profiles. For instance, if you share your car with your spouse, they can also install the FordPass app on their own phone and have the car adjust to their preferences when they are in the driver’s seat. When it’s your turn to drive, the car will switch back to your personalized settings.

SpaceX Launches New Group of Starlink Satellites After Brief Delay

Starlink has become a significant solution for many people worldwide, especially those living in underserved and rural areas where internet service is often expensive, slow, and comes with strict data limits. Unlike 5G home internet services that rely on existing cellular networks, Starlink provides satellite dishes to customers, allowing them to transmit and receive internet data from a constellation of low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites. In recent years, Starlink has expanded its service to include RV and boat owners, as well as aircraft.

However, the service remains controversial, not only because of the behavior of its owner, but also due to the position of the satellites in LEO, which can disturb astronomers. The satellites can reflect sunlight and temporarily disrupt astronomical observations as they pass by. These concerns apply not only to Starlink satellites but also to any other similar constellations, which have the potential to interfere with radio telescopes. To address this, SpaceX has taken measures such as applying a dark coating on the satellites to reduce reflections.

Harley CEO Says X440 Bookings In India Are Surpassing Expectations

There is an increasing interest in small to mid-displacement motorcycles, especially outside the US market. In Europe and Asia, the majority of motorcycles on the road are smaller than the typical 1,000cc-plus machines seen in the US. Riders in these regions use their bikes for more than just leisure activities.

In the Asian market, particularly in India, motorcycles with displacements larger than 250cc are considered enthusiast machines. This is why bikes like the newly launched Triumph Speed and Scrambler 400, as well as the Harley-Davidson X440, have become incredibly popular, even though only pre-bookings for these models have opened. The Harley-Davidson X440, in particular, is significant for Indian Harley fans because the brand hasn’t had a stable presence in India in recent years, with Harley-Davidson pulling out of the country in 2020.

However, the Harley-Davidson X440 signifies a renewed commitment by the company in the Indian market. It’s a model developed in collaboration with Hero MotoCorp, one of the established motorcycle manufacturers in India. The Harley X440’s design is ideal for the Indian market as it eliminates the heavyweight nature of the brand’s bigger cruisers, offering a lighter, more agile, and easier-to-ride platform for enthusiasts and commuters to use on a daily basis.

According to Harley-Davidson CEO Jochen Zeitz, the reception of the new X440 in the Indian market has been extremely positive. He stated, “We’ve been extremely pleased with the reception that the X440 has received since the launch, with pre-orders exceeding our initial expectations.” Zeitz also expressed his belief in the long-term potential of the Indian market, not just for the X440 but for Harley-Davidson overall. He said, “Now I look at India as a long-term opportunity… it’s a huge market overall.”

While Zeitz didn’t provide further details about the brand’s plans for the Indian market, a patent filing by Hero MotoCorp for the Nightster 440 name suggests that the X440 is just the beginning of a new series of small-displacement Harley models. These models are expected to be popular not only in India but also in other Asian markets.
