Ford Builds Firefighting Bronco, Donates It To National Park In New Mexico

Ford has created a specialized version of the Bronco SUV to serve as a mobile firefighting command vehicle at Bandelier National Monument in New Mexico. This modified Bronco is designed to access remote areas and provide up-to-date information to firefighters.

The firefighting Bronco is a collaboration between Ford and Darley, a manufacturer of fire and rescue vehicles. It is based on the Badlands model with the Sasquatch package, which includes a suspension lift and 35-inch tires for improved off-roading capabilities. Additional features such as a Warn winch, grille guard, and beadlock wheels have been added to help the Bronco navigate the rugged terrain of the 33,000-acre national monument.

BMW M5 Touring to Make a Comeback in 2024 as a 700bhp-Plus Hybrid

The BMW M5 Touring will be making a return in 2024, after being absent from the lineup since the discontinuation of the E60-generation model in 2010.

BMW has confirmed that the new M5 will be available as both a saloon and estate model, and will feature a hybrid powertrain, as previously reported by Autocar.

The hybrid powertrain is expected to combine BMW’s 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged S63 V8 engine with a rear-mounted electric motor. Sources close to BMW claim that the combined power and torque outputs of the two units will be around 790bhp and 737lb ft.

Early prototypes of the new M5 were said to use a lithium-ion battery similar to the 12.0kWh unit found in the outgoing BMW 545e. It is still uncertain whether this battery will be used in the production versions of the next M5, as BMW M is rumored to be developing its own performance battery with ultra-rapid discharge properties.

The larger batteries found in the upcoming 530e and 550e PHEVs suggest that the new M5 may also receive a more capacious battery pack.

“We are now also installing a hybrid drive system with typical M performance in other high-performance cars,” said BMW M development head Dirk Häcker.

The power from the hybrid powertrain will be delivered through an eight-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox, and the M5 will feature a rear-biased xDrive four-wheel drive system.

The next generation of the M5 will also have a heavily reworked chassis, with notable features such as a wider front and rear track.

The introduction of the new BMW i5 won’t bring an all-electric M5, but the M division has made modifications to the electric saloon. The i5 M60, while not as focused on performance as the M5, can still accelerate from 0-62mph in 3.8 seconds, thanks to its dual-motor powertrain that produces a combined output of 593bhp and 605lb ft.

Introducing the CFMoto 450 NK Naked Streetfighter

Among the many Chinese motorcycle manufacturers, CFMoto is highly regarded in the industry. The company has partnered with Austrian giant KTM and manufactures 790 engines for KTM. CFMoto also offers its own versions of the KTM 790 Duke and Adventure known as the 800 NK and 800 MT, or Ibex 800 in the U.S. market.

In addition to establishing a presence in North America, CFMoto has recently released several new models in China, including the 450 NK. This lightweight naked bike is based on the existing 450 SR model, which is marketed as the 450 SS in the U.S.

The standout feature of the 450 NK is its engine. This sportbike boasts a 449cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, parallel-twin engine with a 270-degree crankshaft. This configuration delivers a powerful sound and similar power delivery to a 90-degree V-twin, resembling Yamaha’s 700cc motorbikes. With 50 horsepower at 10,000 rpm, it is expected to offer impressive performance comparable to the 450 SR.

From a design perspective, the 450 NK features a modern look with sleek, angular bodywork that enhances its athletic appearance. It is equipped with modern technology, including a full-color TFT display, full LED lights, and a lightweight aluminum swingarm. Thanks to its lack of fairings, the 450 NK is even lighter than the acclaimed 450 SR, weighing just 175 kilograms. This makes it one of the lighter twin-cylinder naked bikes on the market.

Like all CFMoto models, the 450 NK comes equipped with premium components sourced from established OEMs in the industry. For instance, it features an inverted front fork and link-type monoshock suspension from KYB, Brembo sub-brand J.Juan’s radial four-piston caliper and dual-channel ABS for brakes, and Bosch’s electronic fuel-injection system. The bike also offers smartphone connectivity with Bluetooth and navigation capabilities.

Considering the positive reception of CFMoto’s NK range in Asia and Europe, it is highly likely that the 450 NK will be exported to other markets. In China, it is priced at 28,580 Yuan, which equates to around $3,980 USD. If it reaches Europe and the U.S., it is anticipated to retail for approximately $5,000 USD.

JEEP® INTRODUCES MUD LOOK AS FACTORY OPTION ON ALL COMPASS MODELS

  • All future Jeep® Compass owners now offered no-cost option of having car covered in mud to give it the complete off-road look from day one
  • Three optional mud trims available include Clay, Soil and Silt, each with unique consistency and colour
  • Mud-spraying robots developed by Jeep’s Chief Mud Officer, Dr. Terry Firma to automate mud application
  • Mud-On aftermarket package allows existing Jeep customers to achieve the off-road look at home

Jeep® has launched a range of no-cost optional mud trims across all Compass models so all future owners can get the mud look from day one of ownership to reflect the American brand’s legendary off-road capabilities no matter the time and place.

As part of the vehicle specification process, customers will be able to select one of three new mud finishes – Clay, Soil and Silt – each developed over the last 12 months by a specialist in-house team of soil scientists.

The Clay finish recreates the sticky, smooth, dense look of a Jeep that has just effortlessly traversed a riverbed. The Soil mud finish is reminiscent of a deep forest, rich with colour and moisture. Lastly, Silt is sprinkled with granular rock, fashioning the post-Moab desert drive appearance.

A multi-million dollar investment into the Compass production line has seen the introduction of high-tech application mud booths. Inside the booths, high-pressure mud-spraying robots have been developed to automate the mud application process.

The innovative process, described by Jeep as “mudification”, ensures the entirety of the vehicle is covered with an even spread of mud.

A bonding resin is added to the mud mixtures to ensure it stays on the vehicle permanently. However, customers can have it removed at no additional cost at Jeep dealerships via the de-mudification process.

CMO (Chief Mud Officer) Dr. Terry Firma, who led the development programme, said: “We’ve always known that a Jeep looks best when it’s muddy, so now our future customers can have the ‘been exploring’ look from the start. There are few vehicles that can pull off the mud look, but the Jeep Compass is certainly one of them. The Compass looks just as good covered entirely in mud as it does sparkling clean.”

For existing Jeep owners, the brand has developed the “Mud-On” aftermarket package. The Mud-On package includes a 15-litre container of Clay, Soil, and Silt alongside a mud trowel so customers can apply the classic Jeep off-road look at home.

Mud-On packages will ensure total coverage for up to six months and are available to order online or via Jeep dealerships for £36.65 per 15-litre container.
