Both these models are FWD only.

Summary

  • The upcoming Porsche Macan EV will have a sleek exterior design with distinct design cues from the Porsche Taycan, improved aerodynamics, and optimized range.
  • The Macan EV will combine power and efficiency with a dual-motor electric all-wheel-drive system, impressive acceleration, and a range that surpasses the current Taycan.
  • The Macan EV aims to compete with other luxury electric SUVs, such as the Tesla Model Y Performance, Audi e-tron GT, BMW iX, Jaguar i-Pace, Polestar 3, and Lexus RZ, offering a premium driving experience and advanced safety features.

The automotive industry is going through a rapid transformation as more automakers shift their focus to electric vehicles. Porsche, a leading name in luxury vehicles, is not an exception to this trend. The company is always looking for ways to innovate and stay ahead of the curve, and its upcoming all-electric Macan SUV is proof of this commitment. The Macan has been Porsche’s best-selling vehicle since 2016, and the compact luxury crossover is expected to be a hit with EV enthusiasts when it arrives in 2024.

The new model will be based on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) platform, jointly developed by Porsche and Audi. This platform will allow the Macan EV to offer a combination of performance, efficiency, and range that is unmatched in its class, challenging competitors like Tesla, BMW, and Jaguar. Here is everything we know so far about the Porsche Macan EV, from its design and performance to its range and charging capabilities.

Expect The Porsche Macan EV To Boast A Sleek Exterior

Porsche is known for its sleek and timeless designs, and the upcoming Macan EV is no exception. The design sketch that has been released shows a vehicle that retains the sporty silhouette of its gasoline-powered predecessor while incorporating distinctive design cues from the Porsche Taycan. The front end of the Macan EV is expected to feature split headlights, similar to those found on the Porsche Mission R concept car. These headlights will incorporate Porsche’s new LED technology with an HD matrix beam, providing improved visibility and energy efficiency. The overall aerodynamics of the Macan EV have been optimized, with a lower nose and an active spoiler edge at the rear to enhance airflow and maximize range.

Inside, the Macan EV is expected to feature a modern and luxurious cabin that takes inspiration from the Porsche Taycan and the 911. The three-spoke steering wheel, curved digital instrument cluster, and a large infotainment display extending into the center console will create a futuristic and driver-focused environment. While most of the interior will resemble the current Macan, the EV model is likely to feature a version of the three-gauge digital dash found in the Lycanroc, adding to its high-tech appeal.

The Porsche Macan EV will be equipped with the latest technology and features to enhance comfort, convenience, and safety. While specific details are yet to be revealed, we can expect the Macan EV to offer advanced connectivity options, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Over-the-air updates will ensure that the vehicle’s software and systems remain up to date with the latest improvements and enhancements.

The Macan EV Will Combine Power and Efficiency

Porsche is renowned for its high-performance vehicles, and the Macan EV is expected to live up to that reputation. Although exact details are yet to be confirmed, the Macan EV is expected to offer impressive power and acceleration. Little is known about the Macan EV’s powertrain at the moment. The Macan EV trims will likely mirror those of the gas-powered Macan, with a more powerful S model and a range-topping GTS providing the highest level of performance. The Macan EV will feature a dual-motor electric all-wheel-drive system, providing excellent traction and stability in various driving conditions.

Porsche is jointly developing this technology with Audi, who will use it to build the A6 e-tron electric wagon. The rear electric motor will be positioned behind the axle, contributing to the Macan’s signature rear-motor weight balance and enhancing its performance dynamics. Porsche’s expertise in electric powertrain technology, honed through the development of the Taycan, will ensure a thrilling and engaging driving experience in the Macan EV. One of the key considerations for electric vehicle buyers is range, and Porsche aims to deliver a decent range for the Macan EV. While specific range figures have not been officially announced, Porsche has stated that the Macan EV’s range will be on par with or even surpass the current Taycan, which offers around 200 to 250 miles of range for the 2023 model year.

The Audi A6 e-tron will debut with a 100kWh battery pack, and a range-topping Porsche Macan EV may well be offered with a similar capacity battery. In this configuration, the A6 e-tron has 435 miles of range, although it remains to be seen whether the Macan EV will be capable of the same figure. With advancements in battery technology and aerodynamic design, the Macan EV has the potential to achieve a range of over 400 miles on certain trims. Charging the Macan EV will be fast and convenient, thanks to Porsche’s commitment to high-speed charging infrastructure. The Macan EV will utilize an 800-volt electrical system, similar to the Taycan, enabling it to charge at up to 270 kilowatts. This means that the Macan EV can go from five- to 80-percent state of charge in just 25 minutes when using a compatible fast charger.

Additionally, Porsche’s Integrated Power Box internal charging unit will allow for efficient and flexible charging options, including the ability to split the 800-volt battery into two virtual 400-volt packs for faster parallel charging. Porsche’s commitment to safety will be evident in the Macan EV, with a suite of driver-assistance features and advanced safety technologies. The exact specifications of these features are yet to be announced, but we can anticipate features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and automated emergency braking.

Mitsubishi Compact SUV Design Unveiled Before August 10 Debut

Mitsubishi is excited to showcase the exterior design of its upcoming compact SUV ahead of its public debut on August 10 at the 2023 Indonesia International Auto Show. Although the model does not yet have a name, it has been confirmed that it will be a more subdued version of the XFC Concept introduced last year. While the overall styling has been retained, the production model will feature regular door handles, side mirrors instead of cameras, and less flashy lights.

In addition to the photo gallery, Mitsubishi has also revealed preliminary technical specifications. The compact SUV will be equipped with a 1.5-liter engine, a continuously variable transmission (CVT), and front-wheel drive. It will ride on 18-inch wheels and boast a best-in-class ground clearance of 222 millimeters (8.7 inches).

New Toyota Land Cruiser is Teased with Classic FJ62 Design Cues [UPDATE]

Update: Toyota has released seven additional teaser images showcasing the exterior details, as well as a glimpse of the center console. One notable feature is the four-wheel-drive toggle switch, similar to the Lexus GX, suggesting that the new Land Cruiser will have all-wheel drive at all times.

Toyota is once again building excitement for its new Land Cruiser with another teaser that pays homage to the past. Fortunately, the latest image of the upcoming off-roader provides a close look at the front fascia and other features, without the use of silhouettes.

2025 Toyota Land Cruiser Teaser
2025 Toyota Land Cruiser Teaser
2025 Toyota Land Cruiser Teaser

Shown alongside a Land Cruiser FJ62, it is evident that the new model, which is likely to debut for the 2025 model year, draws inspiration from its 1980s predecessor. The rectangular headlight array flanks an egg-crate grille, with the brand name “TOYOTA” replacing the oval emblem at the center. Additionally, the front fenders have a pleasingly blocky design, while the hood wrapping onto the bodysides adds a modern touch.

The robust front bumper deviates from the retro theme, as expected due to modern crash standards. The new Land Cruiser features a thick, contrast-color center section, and although the lower front end is not fully visible, the bumper appears to be positioned relatively high to preserve approach angles. A glimpse of a skid plate can also be seen in the middle.

This teaser allows for clear differentiation between the Toyota Land Cruiser and its Lexus GX counterpart. As seen in the previous teaser, the Land Cruiser’s upkicked beltline and upright windshield suggest that the two models will likely share a platform and body structure. However, the Toyota’s blockier front end is better suited for its intended audience, in contrast to the angular headlights and spindle-motif grille found on the Lexus.

2025 Toyota Land Cruiser Teaser

For more information, such as dimensions and powertrain specifications, we will have to wait until Toyota unveils the 2025 Land Cruiser. However, we can look to its GX cousin for some insights. The GX features a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 engine with an impressive output of 349 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. It also comes equipped with full-time four-wheel drive, a Torsen center differential, and a selectable low range for off-road adventures.

Chevy Camaro That Could Have Been Teased By GM Design

Brian Malczewski, a lead exterior designer at General Motors, recently shared a rendering from 2018 on the General Motors Design Instagram page. The rendering showcases a Chevy-branded sports coupe with a striking resemblance to the Camaro.

In his post, Malczewski mentioned the intriguing sketch from 2018 and wondered what it was for.

While the rendering bears similarities to the Camaro with its long nose, broad fenders, small passenger compartment, and short rear deck, it does not represent the latest sixth-gen model released in 2016. The purpose behind this rendering remains a mystery.

Malczewski has also contributed to the design of the sixth-gen Camaro. He shared another rendering on his Instagram page that closely resembles the production model, except for the exaggerated size of the fenders.

The current generation of the Camaro is nearing its retirement, with the 2024 model year being its last. The assembly of the vehicle will conclude in January 2024.

To bid farewell to the sixth-gen model, Chevrolet introduced the Camaro Collector’s Edition. This edition is available for the LT/RS, LT1, SS, and ZL1 trims and offers unique features such as Panther Black paint, a revised body kit, and a panther emblem on the steering wheel.

The ZL1 Collector’s Edition is limited to only 350 units and features a matte-finish Panther Black paint. Customers who purchase this edition will also receive a Shinola Canfield Sport watch with a serial number corresponding to the car’s steering wheel.

While the Camaro’s future remains uncertain, Chevrolet Global Vice President Scott Bell stated that the end of the current generation does not mean the end of the Camaro’s story. The Camaro name may continue in some form, although no official details have been released regarding its return.

For more information and discussions about the Camaro, you can watch the episode of “Rambling About Cars” below:
