STEVE LAMSON 1997 HONDA CR125 TRIBUTE BUILD: 2-STROKE TUESDAY

Two decades later, people are still paying tribute to the iconic factory Honda CR125 and CR250 race bikes from the late ’90s. This 1997 CR125 tribute build, created by Tim Sharp, is not an exact replica of Steve Lamson’s factory machine, but it is a remarkable homage to both the rider and the era in our sport. Here’s a closer look at Sharp’s creation from our studio session.

Tim Sharp collaborated with companies like Motoman Distributing, Dunlop, MX Tech Suspension, Scalvini Exhaust, Lamson Motorsports, IMS, and Schmidt Performance for this build. While it’s not a perfect replica, Steve Lamson himself loves the finished product and reached out to Tim on social media.

The Scalvini silencer is not only visually stunning but also produces an incredible sound.

The MX-TECH National shock, customized for the CR125, is a hidden gem of this build.

The impossible-to-find HRC replica triple clamps, holding the 47mm Showa forks, and the frame sticker give the bike a “factory” fresh appearance.

A Scalvini pipe was chosen for its exceptional craftsmanship. The billet clutch cover hides a complete Hinson clutch.

IMS Pro series foot pegs with titanium pivot pins were installed.

Motoman Distributing provided the aluminum tank hidden behind the Steve Lamson replica graphics.

Lamson Motorsports took care of cylinder porting, head and carburetor modifications. The bike features a fresh crank, new Wiseco piston, and all-new bearings. Behind the billet ignition cover, you’ll find a 1989 stator and rotor, which is top-secret stuff.

Schmidt Performance took care of the gold titanium nitride coating and installed the MX-TECH Raven cartridge kit for the 47mm Showa forks.

Vince at Mullennix Quality Coating handled the hub and lower fork lug coating. Stay tuned for a full story on this build.
