Citroen is offering the C3 Aircross with the choice of 5- and 7-seat configurations, but only for select variants

Citroen C3 Aircross

In recent years, the compact SUV segment has seen significant growth, with the introduction of models like the Skoda Kushaq-Volkswagen Taigun and the Honda Elevate. The Citroen C3 Aircross is now part of this segment, with prices starting from Rs 9.99 lakh up to Rs 12.45 lakh (introductory ex-showroom pan-India).

The C3 Aircross is available in three variants: You, Plus, and Max. Let’s take a look at each variant:

Citroen C3 Aircross You

Seating Option: 5-seater

Citroen C3 Aircross You variant

The base-spec C3 Aircross You variant lacks front fog lamps, roof rails, front and rear skid plates, and alloy wheels (which are reserved for the top-spec Max). It also does not have the gloss-black panel connecting the taillights, gloss-black finish for the grille, and shark fin antenna.

Citroen C3 Aircross You variant rear

The You variant features halogen headlights, body-colored front and rear bumpers, outside door handles, a rear spoiler, and gloss-black finish for the ORVMs with turn indicators. However, it does not offer a dual-tone roof option.

Citroen C3 Aircross You variant cabin

Inside, the C3 Aircross You has an all-black cabin theme with orange inserts on the dashboard and door armrests. It features two-tone fabric upholstery with contrast orange stitching, black inside door handles, electrically adjustable ORVMs, and all four power windows. Other features include a tilt-adjustable steering wheel, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, steering-mounted controls for the instrument cluster, and fixed headrests.

Citroen C3 Aircross You variant second-row seats

However, the base variant does not come with a basic music system. It has a rear center headrest (although fixed) and a lap belt instead of a proper 3-point seatbelt for the rear middle passenger.

Citroen C3 Aircross Plus

Seating Options: 5-seater, 7-seater (Flexi Pro)

The Plus variant, which is the mid-spec trim of the Citroen SUV, adds front and rear skid plates, LED DRLs, roof rails, and rear defogger compared to the base variant. It also features a gloss-black finish for the grille and black garnish connecting the taillights. The side remains the same as the base-spec variant. The dual-tone Plus variant comes with a black applique on the C-pillar for a floating-roof effect.

Citroen C3 Aircross Plus variant with Vibe pack

Additionally, Citroen offers the C3 Aircross with a Vibe pack for the Plus variant, which adds visual elements to the SUV. The major upgrade is the 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with steering-mounted audio and calling controls, and a 4-speaker music system.

Moreover, the Plus variant offers a 7-seat layout with removable third-row seats. In the 7-seater version, the SUV gains rear roof-mounted AC vents, a third-row bottle holder, a boot lamp, and third-row fast charging ports (X2). The second-row seats have 1-touch tumble feature and a reclinable backrest. Additionally, the 7-seater model has adjustable headrests for all passengers.

Familiar Design

Citroen C3 Aircross front

One of the biggest identifiables of the C3 Aircross is similar design elements with the C3 hatchback. The SUV’s fascia has similar styling including the sleek LED DRLs and the headlights flanking the grille. It gets a chunky bumper but most of it is taken up by the air dam with a skid plate below, cladding on both doors and a muscular rear end with C-shaped taillights and a massive bumper.

Similar On The Inside As Well

Even the cabin of the C3 Aircross resembles that of the C3, though with some minor revisions. Citroen has given the compact SUV a dual-tone cabin theme while the AC vents and dashboard layout remains the same.

Citroen C3 Aircross third row

The big difference, however, is that the C3 Aircross is available in two seating configurations: five and seven. The third-row seats are removable as well, for when you have more luggage than people.

Citroen C3 Aircross EV Could Become The Most Affordable 3-Row Electric SUV In India

Not just the most affordable one, but the C3 Aircross EV could also become the first mass-market 3-row EV in the country

The electric vehicle market in India is expected to see the introduction of various SUV-shaped EVs in the next few years. While affordable electric hatchbacks and SUVs are already available, there is currently no budget-friendly 3-row EV option. The only 3-row electric vehicle available in the market is the Mercedes Benz EQB, which is priced above Rs 75 lakh. However, Citroen is planning to fill this gap with an affordable 3-row EV.

Citroen’s Future Plan

Citroen C3 Aircross

Citroen is set to launch the C3 Aircross compact SUV in September, which will be its second launch this year following the eC3. The automaker has also confirmed that an electric version of the C3 Aircross is in the pipeline.

Citroen’s plan is to launch a new model every year, and the C3 Aircross EV is expected to be part of this strategy. Following the pattern of the C3 hatchback and eC3, we can anticipate the C3 Aircross EV to go on sale in the first half of 2024.

Expectations From The eC3 Aircross

The C3 Aircross is an extended and modified version of the C3 hatchback, sharing the same 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine. However, the electric 3-row SUV is likely to feature a larger battery pack than the eC3, providing a competitive range of around 400 kilometres. The styling of the C3 Aircross EV is expected to be similar to its non-electric counterpart.

Price Check

Citroen C3 Aircross Third Row

Citroen is known for its aggressive pricing strategy for localized offerings. The C3, for example, is priced competitively compared to hatchbacks from a lower segment. While the prices of the C3 Aircross are yet to be revealed, it is estimated to start from around Rs 9 lakh (ex-showroom). Based on this, the electric variant of the C3 Aircross could be priced between Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom), similar to other subcompact electric SUVs like the Tata Nexon EV Max and Mahindra XUV400.

Other Expected Electric Three-Row Models

Mahindra XUV700 EV

The only other confirmed three-row electric car in India is the XUV.e8 (XUV700 EV), scheduled to debut in December 2024. However, it is expected to have a higher price tag of around Rs 35 lakh. Kia is also working on an electric vehicle for the Indian market, which may include an electric Carens. Additionally, an electric Safari based on the Harrier EV could be in development. These models are expected to be priced above Rs 20 lakh and are likely to be launched in 2025 or later.

More details about the C3 Aircross EV will be revealed by the end of this year. With the right pricing, it has the potential to be an attractive option for joint families looking to transition to electric vehicles without breaking the bank.

Citroen C3 Aircross vs Rivals: Claimed Fuel Efficiency Compared

The C3 Aircross will only be offered with a manual transmission at launch

Citroen C3 Aircross Mileage

The Citroen C3 Aircross is approaching its market entry, possibly by October. It’s an extended version of the C3 and will be offered with both five- and seven-seater configurations. The compact SUV will be competing against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Honda Elevate.

Citroen has revealed the fuel efficiency of the only powertrain that will be offered with the C3 Aircross, a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. Here’s how it compares to the petrol-manual variants of its rivals:

Manual Variants

Mileage

Citroen C3 Aircross

18.5kmpl

Honda Elevate

15.31kmpl

Maruti Grand Vitara / Toyota Hyryder

21.1kmpl

Hyundai Creta

16.8kmpl

Kia Seltos

17kmpl/ 17.7kmpl (iMT with 1.5-litre turbo)

Skoda Kushaq

19.20kmpl/ 17.95kmpl (1.5-litre turbo)

Volkswagen Taigun

19.20kmpl/ 17.23kmpl (1.5-litre turbo)

  • The C3 Aircross’s 110PS turbo-petrol motor has a higher claimed fuel efficiency, more frugal than larger and naturally-aspirated (N.A.) 1.5-litre petrol engines found in the Elevate, Creta and Seltos.

  • The Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder also use a 1.5-litre N.A. petrol engine but with a lower output, do promise to be a lot more frugal than the upcoming Citroen SUV. They also get the choice of a strong-hybrid powertrain that claims up to 27.97kmpl.

It includes a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, and steering-mounted audio controls.

In terms of safety, the C3 Aircross is equipped with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, hill-hold assist, rear parking sensors and tyre pressure pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

The C3 Aircross lacks important features such as automatic AC, cruise control, ventilated seats, wireless charging, and up to six airbags, which are offered by its segment competitors.

Powertrain Check

Citroen C3 Aircross

Citroen’s compact SUV will use the same 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine as the C3 hatchback, which produces 110PS and 190Nm of torque and is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. There is currently no option for an automatic transmission, but it is expected to be introduced later.

Expected Price & Rivals

Considering that the C3 Aircross will not be as feature-rich, it is likely to have a lower starting price of around Rs 9 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor, and Honda Elevate.

Is This Our First Look At The India-spec Citroen C3X Crossover?

The C3X will most likely be based on the C3 Aircross’ platform

Citroen C3X Crossover Spied

  • The Citroen C3X could hit the market in 2024.

  • Globally, the C3X is a sedan crossover that mixes executive styling with increased ground clearance.

  • Its cabin and features will most likely be similar to the C3 Aircross.

  • Could use Citroen’s 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine.

  • Expected to be priced from Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards.

A heavily camouflaged test mule was recently spied testing in Bengaluru, standing out for its sloped rear end as there are not many coupe-styled mass-market offerings in India. While we cannot identify any brand logos, this test vehicle resembles the design language of Citroen models and appears to be the upcoming Citroen C3X crossover sedan. Here is what the spy shot tells us.

A Familiar Design

The spy video only got a glimpse of the test mule from a side angle, showing part of the front profile and the headlight’s design looks a lot like the ones you see on the Citroen C3 and the C3 Aircross. From the side, the most noticeable giveaway are the flap-type door handles seen on almost all India-spec Citroen models. The rear has the sloping crossover design with exact details hidden by another layer of camouflage.

We did not get a glimpse of the interior, but the cabin of the C3X will most likely share similarities with the cabin of the Citroen C3 Aircross SUV.

Powertrain

Citroen C3 Aircross Engine

The India-spec Citroen C3X could be powered by the same 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine from the C3 and C3 Aircross. In the hatchback, this petrol unit churns out 110PS and 190Nm and is mated only to a 6-speed manual transmission. However, Citroen could increase the performance output and also add an automatic transmission for the C3X to match the C3 Aircross.

The carmaker could also offer the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit (82PS and 115Nm) paired with a 5-speed manual transmission for a more affordable entry point.
