The S trim offers additional features compared to the base-spec EX variant
After the launch of the Hyundai Exter, the car has started to arrive at dealerships across the country. The micro-SUV is available in five variants, and we now have detailed images of the S manual variant of the Exter. If you are considering booking the Exter S, you can take a look at this variant in the gallery below.
Exterior
The S variant comes with H-shaped DRLs (Daytime Running Lights) and halogen headlamps. The long gloss black grille, bumper, and big skid plate are the same as the top-spec variant. The only difference is the absence of projector headlamps in the front.
On the side profile, you’ll find 14-inch steel wheels with wheel covers, which is a size smaller than the SX variant. The turn indicators are mounted on the fenders, but if you choose the AMT variant, they will be mounted on the ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors). The C-pillar also has a gloss black finish on this model.
From the rear, the Exter S looks identical to the base-spec EX variant with the H-shaped element in the LED tail lamps, a large rear bumper with a skid plate, and a black strip connecting the tail lamps. This variant does not come with a shark fin antenna and a rear spoiler like the SX trim.
Interior
The cabin design of the Exter S is the same as the top-spec variants, featuring an all-black cabin and a diamond pattern on the dashboard. The upholstery lacks leather and it misses out on chrome-colored inside door handles as well as map lights.
Features & Safety
The Exter S comes with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display that supports wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also includes a digital driver display, rear AC vents, rear power windows, electrically adjustable ORVMs, and a rear 12V socket. These features are in addition to what the EX variant offers.

In terms of safety, the Exter S is equipped with 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, central locking, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and manual day/night inside rear-view mirror (IRVM). The AMT variant also comes with electronic stability control (ESC), hill hold assist, and vehicle stability management (VSM) as standard, but these features require an additional cost of Rs 24,000 for manual variants.
Powertrain
The Exter is powered by a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that delivers 83PS of power and 114Nm of torque. You can choose between a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT transmission. There is also an option for a CNG powertrain with the same engine and a 5-speed manual transmission. The Exter S variant is available with all three powertrain options.
Price & Rivals
Hyundai has priced the Exter between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 10.10 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom). It competes directly with the Tata Punch and Maruti Ignis, but it can also be considered as a rival to the Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, and Citroen C3.
