TVS Announces India’s First One-Make Electric Motorcycle Racing Series

TVS, one of India’s largest motorcycle manufacturers, has announced the launch of India’s first-ever electric two-wheeler racing series. The racing series, called the TVS Racing Electric One Make Championship (e-OMC), will feature a new electric motorcycle platform developed by TVS exclusively for the racing series. The electric sportbikes, known as Apache RTE, will have equal specifications, making rider skill the determining factor for victory.

The Apache RTE bikes are purpose-built racing machines with a high power-to-weight ratio. Although specific power figures have not been disclosed, the bikes are equipped with a liquid-cooled electric motor, a liquid-cooled controller, and a battery pack made of high-power cells. Notably, the bikes feature Öhlins suspension, large radially mounted Brembo brakes, Pirelli Corsa tires, and a carbon fiber fairing.

The TVS e-OMC will debut during the fourth round of the Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship (INMRC), starting on September 29, 2023. Eight racers selected by TVS will compete for the title.

Sudarshan Venu, the Managing Director of TVS Motor Company, emphasized the brand’s long-standing commitment to racing and its influence on production vehicles. TVS Racing has been instrumental in making motorsports accessible to enthusiasts across India. Many of the technologies developed for TVS’ racing machines have been incorporated into their production vehicles, showcasing their “track to road” philosophy.

Vimal Sumbly, the head of TVS’ premium business, highlighted TVS Racing’s history of providing a platform for racers to showcase their skills and passion. TVS Racing has pioneered initiatives in India, such as the TVS OMC in 1994, and has participated in events like the Asia One Make Championship and the Dakar Rally.
