Tata’s Harrier SUV has been a standout and a key model for the carmaker, particularly after its launch in 2019. Most recently, the carmaker celebrated the Harrier completing one lakh sales, making the SUV one of Tata’s best-selling models. This article discusses some of the factors that have contributed to the success of the Harrier.

 Entry into a New Segment

The Harrier was an important product for Tata as it marked the company’s entry into larger and more contemporary SUV segments. While the compact and midsize segments were becoming more competitive, Tata introduced the Harrier, which is a flagship product in its SUV lineup. The Harrier uses the Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced (OMEGA) Architecture (ARC) platform, which is derived from Land Rover’s D8 Architecture.

 A Powerful Diesel Engine

The Harrier’s success is largely due to the 2.0-litre diesel engine with 170 Hp and 350 Nm of torque. The engine provides a spirited and refined performance both on and off-road. The carmaker offers a 6-speed manual as standard and a 6-speed automatic transmission as an option.

 Updated with the Latest Features

Tata has kept the Harrier updated with the changing times. One of the early changes was introducing a 6-speed torque converter unit in the Harrier, along with other upgrades such as a Majestic Panoramic sunroof, an auto-dimming IRVM, and a 6-way power-adjustable driver seat.

Several Special Editions with Enhanced Features

Over the last four years, Tata has released several special editions of the Harrier, including “Dark,” “Camo,” “Jet,” and more recently, the “Red Dark.” The “Dark” and “Red Dark” have set trends that other carmakers have followed.

With the most recent special edition, Tata added new features such as a bigger 10.25-inch Harman touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, a 360-degree surround view camera, and a 6-way powered driver seat with memory function. Safety features have also been improved with 10 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
