Lack of diversity threatens future of automotive engineering

The automotive engineering sector is currently facing a significant lack of diversity, particularly in terms of women’s representation. This issue is negatively impacting the sector’s ability to innovate in the face of new challenges and technologies, according to the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAE). In an effort to address this problem, the RAE is advocating for more apprentices from a wide range of backgrounds to enter the industry.

Rhys Morgan, the director of the RAE, highlighted the gender disparity in engineering, stating, “We have a real gender issue in engineering,” in an interview with Autocar.

2025 Mini Cooper Convertible Spied For The First Time In JCW Trim

The new electric Mini is now available, but that does not mean the traditional combustion engine is going away for the iconic brand. Even though there are electric models on the road, there are still camouflaged prototypes with exhaust pipes being tested. Recently, the first images of the next-generation Mini Cooper Convertible in John Cooper Works (JCW) trim have been released.

One key feature that suggests this prototype is in JCW trim is the brakes. Behind the wheels, there are red calipers, which is a signature feature typically reserved for the top-spec JCW models. However, it’s worth noting that we have seen the same wheel design and the center-exit exhaust on other camouflaged Mini prototypes without the red brakes. The Cooper S model also features a center-exit exhaust, so it’s possible that there might be some changes to trim levels between generations.

Oracle Unveils Police Cruiser Version of the Cybertruck

Electric vehicles (EVs) have become increasingly popular among police departments in the United States, primarily Tesla models. These vehicles offer easier maintenance and the potential for significant cost savings through reduced fuel consumption. For instance, the Somerset Police Department purchased a Tesla Model Y patrol vehicle and estimates it could save $80,000 in fuel and maintenance costs over 10 years.

Tesla has experienced some production and delivery delays for the Cybertruck. However, the company recently announced that deliveries will begin in the coming weeks. During an earnings call, Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed progress on the Cybertruck and expects deliveries to start in late September or early October 2023. Musk has also shared images of the Cybertruck on Twitter.

While the Cybertruck is highly anticipated and likely to be a popular choice among police departments and other organizations, it remains uncertain how many will select it as their next cruiser. Tesla faces competition from other companies interested in producing battery-electric police vehicles, such as Ford with their Mustang Mach-E EV.

2023 BMW M2 Review: All Grown Up

The 2023 BMW M2 has undergone significant changes compared to its predecessor. Despite its increased size and weight, the new M2 is more powerful and faster than ever before. While some enthusiasts may lament the loss of its playful and tail-happy nature, the M2 has evolved into a more mature and focused performance car.

One of the noticeable changes is the M2’s exterior design. The front end features large air intakes and a grille design that sets it apart from its larger sibling, the M4. The rear end, on the other hand, remains relatively understated with a gloss black diffuser, quad exhaust tips, and an extended rear bumper.

Engine Twin-Turbocharged 3.0-Liter Inline-Six
Output 453 Horsepower / 406 Pound-Feet
0-60 MPH 3.9 Seconds
Base Price $63,195
As-Tested Price $66,945

Under the hood, the 2023 BMW M2 is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine that produces 453 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. With the ZF eight-speed automatic transmission, the M2 can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph, but it can be increased to 177 mph with the M Driver’s Package.

While the increased size and weight of the M2 may raise concerns among enthusiasts, the performance of the car has not been compromised. The added power, combined with the close-ratio gear ratios, ensures that the M2 delivers exhilarating acceleration and performance on both highways and twisty roads.

In terms of handling, the M2’s wider stance and adaptive dampers contribute to its improved agility and balance. With 275/35 front and 285/30 rear Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, the M2 offers exceptional grip in all driving conditions. The M Traction Control system allows for 10 stages of stability control intervention, providing added confidence and control.

The interior of the 2023 BMW M2 is more spacious and comfortable, thanks to the increased wheelbase. The cabin layout is similar to the M4, featuring two screens for the digital cluster and infotainment system. The M2 also comes equipped with the latest iDrive 8 software, offering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

With a starting price of $63,195, the M2 remains a bargain within the BMW M lineup. Even with a few optional extras, such as the Live Cockpit Pro, Active Cruise Control, and Toronto Red paint, the as-tested price of the M2 is still significantly lower than the base price of the M4. This makes the M2 a compelling choice for enthusiasts seeking an exhilarating driving experience without breaking the bank.

The 2023 BMW M2 may be different from its predecessor, but it remains the best driving experience within the BMW M range. It offers impressive performance, a comfortable interior, and a relatively affordable price tag. The M2 is a grown-up performance car that balances power, agility, and practicality.

How To Find The IMEI Number On Your Android Phone

There are three places you can find your Android phone’s IMEI number, two within the phone itself, and one outside of it. The last of them is simply printed on the box that your phone came in — though in all likelihood, you’ve long since thrown that away, so it’s not the best option. The best way to find your phone’s IMEI number within its systems is, surprisingly, within the regular Phone app.

  1. To find the IMEI number using the Phone app:
  2. Open your Android phone’s Phone app.
  3. Open the manual dialer.
  4. Dial in *#06#. You don’t need to press the call button.
  5. A window will automatically pop up, showing several codes, including the IMEI number.

That window includes both a numerical IMEI number and a scannable barcode. If you happen to have another phone handy, take a picture of it for your records. Otherwise, just write the number down and keep it somewhere safe. The other way to find your phone’s IMEI number is to check your Settings.

  1. To find the IMEI number using the Settings app:
  2. Open the Settings app.
  3. Swipe up and tap About Phone.
  4. Navigate to find your IMEI number.

The IMEI number can be found in the About Phone menu of all Android phones, regardless of manufacturer. The only exception is some older Samsung models, which have a Status menu within the About Phone menu that contains the IMEI number.

24H SPA EWC Motos: BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team Claims Another Podium at Spa-Francorchamps

The BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team had a successful home race at Spa-Francorchamps, as they finished on the podium once again. After 24 hours of intense racing, Markus Reiterberger, Ilya Mikhalchik, and Jérémy Guarnoni secured third place with their BMW M 1000 RR at the 24H SPA EWC Motos, the second round of the 2023 FIM Endurance World Championship. This follows their previous third-place finish at the opening race weekend in Le Mans. The team is currently ranked third in the Team world championship standings, 33 points behind the leaders.

In the qualifying sessions, the BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team showed strong performance, securing second place on the grid. However, they faced challenges during the race, with safety car phases causing them to lose time after pit stops. Despite this setback, the team consistently battled their way back through the field, eventually climbing to fourth place. They maintained this position throughout the night, delivering good lap times and efficient fuel consumption. With three and a half hours remaining, they inherited third place when the Suzuki team ahead of them encountered technical issues. The BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team successfully defended their position until the end, even in the face of rain in the closing stages of the race.

The Tecmas-MRP-BMW Racing Team, fresh from their victory in the Superstock class at the season-opener in Le Mans, also had a promising start at Spa-Francorchamps. However, they faced a setback when forced into the garage due to a technical issue. Despite efforts to repair the bike, they eventually had to retire from the race during the night.

The private BMW Team LRP Poland, racing with the BMW S 1000 RR, experienced various issues throughout the race but managed to push through and reach the finish line after 24 hours of racing.

The next race, the 8 Hours of Suzuka in Japan, will take place on August 6th.

BMW Motorrad Motorsport Director, Marc Bongers, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s third-place finish, noting the unfortunate situations caused by safety car periods. He praised the team’s performance, emphasizing their ability to fight back and the reliability of the motorcycle. Bongers acknowledged the need to improve their speed to reach the top position and shared disappointment for the Tecmas-MRP-BMW Racing Team’s inability to finish the race due to technical problems.

Werner Daemen, Team Manager of the BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team, described the race as hectic, highlighting their bad luck with safety car periods in the beginning. However, he commended the impressive performance of the riders and mechanics and expressed gratitude to BMW for providing a reliable bike for the 24 hours. Daemen emphasized the team’s focus on the upcoming race in Japan and their aim to achieve another strong result.

Markus Reiterberger, one of the riders, reflected on their second-place qualification and the challenges faced during the race. He mentioned struggling with grip in high temperatures but remained error-free throughout the race, eventually securing third place. Reiterberger expressed gratitude to the team and acknowledged the tough and long race they had completed on the podium.

Ilya Mikhalchik, another team member, expressed happiness with their overall speed during the race, despite losing time due to safety car pit lane exits. He praised the team for avoiding mistakes and looked forward to a good position in the upcoming race in Japan.

Jérémy Guarnoni, also a part of the team, celebrated the second consecutive podium finish but acknowledged their lack of luck with the safety car, causing them to lose contact with the front riders. Nonetheless, Guarnoni expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance and the speed of his teammates.
