Subaru, Please Don’t Use Any Of These Names You Just Trademarked

Subaru has filed emblems for 12 new names with the US Patent and Trademark Office for “automobiles and structural parts and fittings therefor.” The phrases may very well be used for future off-road autos, trim ranges, packages—or simply so no one else tries to trademark them.

Many of them might match alongside or exchange Subaru’s “Wilderness” nameplate, which is presently used for the model’s most rugged fashions. But we will not get our heads round among the others:

  • Accomplice
  • Everguide
  • Everpass
  • Getaway
  • Highroad
  • Hightrail
  • Outsider
  • Trailhead
  • Trailseeker
  • Trailwind
  • Viewfinder

Loads of these names are fairly foolish; what’s an Everguide, anyway? Viewfinder has us nostalgic for that toy all of us had as youngsters and each Getaway and Accomplice sound an excessive amount of like blockbuster crime thrillers directed by Michael Bay.

Hightrail, Outsider, Trailhead, and Trailseeker are actually higher. Those names would not look that off-putting on the bottom of a Crosstrek or Outback—not less than, not any extra off-putting than the time period Wilderness. And they actually slot in with Subaru’s out of doors aesthetic.

But it is unclear precisely what the model would use these names for, or if any of them will really attain manufacturing. Automakers typically file emblems like this and by no means use any of the names talked about. But who is aware of, possibly within the subsequent decade you may be driving round in a BRZ Getaway or an Ascent Viewfinder.

The [Tata Harrier facelift](https://www.cardekho.com/tata/harrier-facelift-2023) and [Tata Safari facelift](https://www.cardekho.com/carmodels/Tata/Tata_Safari_Facelift_2023) are on the brink of being launched. We recently drove both the SUVs and we were pretty impressed with the updates. On the sidelines of the media drive, the carmaker confirmed to us that the new Harrier-Safari duo has been sent to the newly introduced Bharat NCAP (new car assessment programme) for crash tests.

## What’s Been Revised?

With the facelift, Tata has integrated structural reinforcements for the side pole impact test and the SUVs have also undergone enhancements to offer better protection not only in a frontal offset crash test but in a full frontal impact crash test as well.

In terms of safety features, the two SUVs now get 6 airbags, electronic stability programme (ESP), ISOFIX child seat mounts, and rear parking sensors as standard. Their higher variants also get an additional airbag (for protecting the driver’s knee), a 360-degree camera, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

It’s worth noting that this is the first time that the Harrier and Safari duo will be put through any kind of crash tests as their pre-facelift versions hadn’t been assessed by the Global NCAP.

## Tests That Will Be Performed

![YouTube video player](https://stimg.cardekho.com/pwa/img/spacer3x2.png)

At Bharat NCAP’s testing facility, the safety governing body will put the SUVs through various rounds of crash tests such as frontal offset, side impact, and side pole impact. The frontal offset test will be conducted at 64kmph, while the side impact and side pole impact tests will be performed at 50kmph and 29kmph, respectively. The test score is also going to factor in the structural integrity of the vehicle as well as the safety assist technologies on offer.

Based on these tests, the Bharat NCAP will hand out a crash test rating to cars which will be divided into adult and child occupant protection. All these steps have been implemented in accordance with the Global NCAP’s testing procedures.

As per the last Tata car to be tested by Global NCAP, the [Punch](https://www.cardekho.com/tata/punch) which received a 5-star safety rating, the Harrier and Safari facelifts are also expected to score 5 stars from the BNCAP tests.

## The Only Testing Authority

Shortly after Bharat NCAP was introduced in August 2023, the [Global NCAP announced](https://www.cardekho.com/india-car-news/global-ncap-to-hand-over-the-reins-of-crash-testing-indiaspecific-cars-to-bharat-ncap-starting-2024-31327.htm) that starting 2024, it will stop testing India-specific cars and will hand over the reins to the Indian authorities. While Bharat NCAP – which is a voluntary-based assessment for carmakers (as of now) – has already come into effect from October 1, it is yet to put out the results of cars tested by it. During its introduction by Nitin Gadkari, the Road and Transport Minister had stated that there were over 30 cars already in the pipeline which were submitted for testing.

Other than Tata, Maruti and Hyundai have also likely sent a few of their SUV products for being crash-tested by the Bharat NCAP, the results of which are expected to be revealed soon. We only hope Bharat NCAP ensures India-spec cars get safer and better for our buyers in the coming future.
