Cosmetic Changes

The special edition Astor features an all-black exterior with a black honeycomb grille, black front and rear bumpers, smoked headlights, and blacked-out alloy wheels. It also has red front brake calipers and “Black Storm” badges on the front fenders.

Inside, the Black Storm edition features all-black upholstery with red stitching on the seats. It also has red inserts on the steering wheel, around the AC vents, and on the console tunnel.

Any New Features?

The Black Storm edition primarily focuses on cosmetic changes and retains the same features as the regular Astor Smart variant. However, it does come with a dealer-fitted JBL sound system. The Astor already offers a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, cruise control, and a panoramic sunroof.

The One Powertrain

The Black Storm edition only comes with the 1.5-litre engine option, available with both manual and automatic transmissions.

The Black Storm edition provides an affordable alternative to the Kia Seltos X-Line and competes with the Hyundai Creta Knight Edition, and matte editions of the Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Tiguan. Overall, the compact SUV rivals the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Honda Elevate, and the upcoming Citroen C3 Aircross.

It looks like the MG Astor will be following in the footsteps of its biggest brother, the MG Gloster, as it will also get a Black Storm edition. To jog your memory, it is a blacked-out special edition of MG SUVs. The latest teaser confirms that the Astor Black Storm edition will arrive tomorrow.

The short video gives us a glimpse at the Astor Black Storm’s front fascia and its fog lamps. While not much can be decoded for now, it is enough to understand that the compact SUV’s chrome elements are likely to be finished in black (check the revised honeycomb grille). MG could also give it the same treatment as the Gloster Black Storm edition, which comes with some red inserts in the headlight clusters and red highlights on the ORVMs and brake callipers.

Other Cosmetic Updates Expected

MG is also likely to provide it with a few “Black Storm” badges denoting the special edition. As the Gloster’s special edition, we can expect the Astor Black Storm to also get some changes on the inside including red ambient lighting, contrast red stitching on the upholstery and red accents on the steering wheel.

Feature Upgrades Unlikely

Although the Astor Black Storm will look a tad bit different inside and out (thanks to the visual and badge upgrades), its equipment list isn’t likely to be tinkered with. MG has already packed the Astor to the gills with niceties such as a 10.1-inch touchscreen, a 6-way power-adjustable driver seat, a panoramic sunroof, cruise control and auto climate control.

Its safety net boasts of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), up to six airbags, a 360-degree camera, and electronic stability programme (ESP).

No Revisions Under The Hood

We don’t expect any changes to be made to the compact SUV’s powertrains for the special edition. The compact SUV comes with two petrol engine options: a 1.3-litre turbocharged unit (140PS/220Nm) and a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated mill (110PS/144Nm). While the former is mated only to a 6-speed automatic, the latter gets 6-speed manual and CVT options.

LETTI LEADS ‘BRUTAL’ RED BULL ROMANIACS AFTER DAY TWO

The Red Bull Romaniacs, a 4-day hard enduro race, faced brutal weather conditions on day one. Despite the storm, Manuel Lettenbichler dominated and established a significant lead over his competitors. The organizers considered canceling or shortening the course due to the horrendous weather, but decided to proceed as planned.

Lettenbichler finished first on day one, but faced several challenges along the way. His KTM teammate, Trystan Hart, lost 20 minutes to Lettenbichler in the closing stages due to the bad weather. Billy Bolt, who had been off the bike for seven weeks, came in third, over 30 minutes behind Lettenbichler.

Day two had less drama, with Teo Kabakchiev winning the day, two minutes ahead of Lettenbichler. Lettenbichler maintains a 37-minute lead over Trystan Hart. Teo had a difficult first day, finishing an hour and twelve minutes behind the Red Bull KTM rider. Behind Lettenbichler, the standings include Billy Bolt, Trystan Hart, and GasGas rider Michael Walkner.
