New Hyundai i20 Facelift vs Old: Key Differences Explained

The design changes on the i20 facelift are subtle, though the powertrain options have been rejigged.

The Hyundai i20 facelift has already been released in India with minor styling tweaks and changes to the powertrain options. It is available in five variants – Era, Magna, Sportz, Asta, and Asta (O), with Era being the newly introduced base model. In this article, we will discuss the main differences between the i20 facelift and the pre-facelift model.

Front Fascia

At first glance, the design changes on the facelifted i20 are subtle, and the car remains easily recognizable. The new elements include inverted LED DRLs, a parametric jewel pattern grille, an updated bumper, and a new skid plate. However, the facelifted i20 no longer has fog lamps, which were available in the previous version. The Hyundai logo has also been repositioned from the front grille to the front part of the hood.

Rear

The changes at the rear of the i20 facelift are once again minor. It retains the Z-shaped LED tail lamps but features an updated bumper with a new silver skid plate.

Interior

The interior of the new i20 facelift has an identical dashboard design to the pre-facelift model. However, instead of an all-black cabin, the updated version now comes with a black and beige treatment. The feature lists of both versions are almost identical, including a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a semi-digital instrument cluster, and a single-pane sunroof. The only new feature in the i20 facelift is the addition of a USB-C type charging port.

When it comes to safety, the facelifted model has seen improvements with the inclusion of six airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchorage, ESC, hill assist control, day-night IRVM, vehicle stability management, and three-point seatbelts for all passengers as standard.

Powertrain

There have been changes to the powertrain options in the new i20. The previous 1-litre turbo petrol engine is no longer available, and the updated i20 now comes with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine with a power output of up to 88PS and 115Nm of torque. This engine can be paired with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT gearbox.

The turbo-petrol engine is now exclusive to the Hyundai i20 N Line, which has also undergone a facelift recently.
