LETTI AND BOLT COMPETE AT GETZENRODEO HARD ENDURO

Photos: Future 7 Media / Red Bull Content Pool
Manuel Lettenbichler, the Hard Enduro World Champion, finished the year with a victory at Getzenrodeo after a fierce battle with Billy Bolt. Lettenbichler said, “That was such a hard race. We had to dig so deep to keep going. Billy was riding really well, and we had to help each other out at times. He made a small mistake, and that’s when I finally passed him. After that, I focused and rode as smoothly as possible to the finish.”

The single-day GetzenRodeo was the final round of the FIM Hard Enduro World Championship. In the morning, 60 riders competed in the two-hour GetzenRace qualifier to earn a spot in the afternoon five-lap GetzenChamp final. The main race day at Getzen consists of two races: the initial race is less intense, with all racers on the circuit. The main event is reserved for the top 20 riders, who face a more challenging course in the reverse direction for a one and a half hour race. The final includes a Joker Lane or X-Loop that each rider must go through once.

Lettenbichler and Bolt started strong and took the Joker Lane early, helping each other and setting a faster time than anyone. Mario Roman briefly took the lead, but halfway through the race, Lettenbichler had a small advantage over Billy Bolt. In the end, Letti and Bolt lapped the entire field.

Billy Bolt finished a close second to Lettenbichler at the Getzenrodeo and runner-up in the Hard Enduro Championship. Bolt said, “I gave it my all today. I felt like I had what was needed to win. In the final, I was riding well and feeling comfortable with the track. When I got into the lead, I pushed as hard as I could to build a gap. But this course is so technical that if you make a mistake, you get punished hard. Missing that rock climb let Mani back into the lead, and I just couldn’t catch up again. I’m happy though. I rode well here and gave it everything. Congrats to Mani on an incredible season too. I’m excited to shift the focus indoors and race SuperEnduro now!”

Bolt stayed strong and closed the gap, eventually overtaking the German with 20 minutes remaining in the race. Ultimately, it came down to a rock step-up, which Billy failed to overcome, allowing Mani to pass him and maintain the lead until the end. Lettenbichler had an outstanding season, winning his fourth Getzenrodeo.

Sherco’s Mario Roman led for a while and finished third overall in the event.
Alfredo Gomez took his factory Rieju to a 6th overall, 2 laps down from the leaders.

Toyota FT-Se Electric Sports Car Features Dual Motors and All-Wheel Drive

Toyota has unveiled the FT-Se at the Japan Mobility Show, giving us a glimpse of a stylish sports car with no combustion engine and two seats. The concept was designed by Hideaki Iida, the project manager for the Gazoo Racing Design Group. According to Iida, there may be a production version of the FT-Se after 2026. There are also rumors of a simulated manual gearbox for the car.

Additional details about the FT-Se have been revealed by Top Gear magazine. The car will have dual motors, with one powering the front axle and the other driving the rear wheels. This setup will provide all-wheel drive with a rear-biased behavior. The motors will be powered by a third-generation battery pack, which is said to be “special.” However, cooling the battery pack during a planned Nürburgring hot lap could pose a challenge.

First pictures and new name: Volkswagen gives exclusive preview of future ID.7 Tourer

Volkswagen has released the first photos of the estate version of the upcoming all-electric top model ID.7. Along with the photos, the brand has also revealed the new name for the model: ID.7 Tourer. Set to launch in Europe in 2024, the ID.7 Tourer promises ample space and high efficiency, with the final design expected to be unveiled in the coming months.

Volkswagen is known for its successful estate models, and this tradition continues with the ID.7 Tourer. For over 60 years, practical models like the Variant or Shooting Brake (in the case of the Arteon) have been part of Volkswagen’s lineup. Now, the brand is giving a sneak peek at its first all-electric estate, which will make its debut in 2024.

Efficiency is a priority. The ID.7 Tourer prioritizes efficiency with its aerodynamic body, which is crucial for achieving long ranges. The previously unveiled ID.7 sedan, currently launching in Europe, boasts an impressive Cd-value of 0.23, and the ID.7 Tourer comes close with a Cd-value of 0.24. Despite the camouflage, the elongated hatchback version showcases an elegant and powerful design.

Camouflaged in autumn style. The camouflage foiling used on the ID.7 Tourer is inspired by the multi-layer paint of the ID.7 sedan, as revealed by Volkswagen at the CES in Las Vegas earlier this year. The imagery on the sticker features an Indian summer theme, and the QR codes at the rear seamlessly blend into the camouflage.

Spacious interior thanks to clever design. The ID.7 Tourer offers plenty of space inside, thanks to its short overhangs and long wheelbase. With five people on board, the boot volume can reach up to 545 liters when loaded up to the height of the rear seat backrest. Folding down the backrest can increase the cargo space to a maximum of 1,714 liters, thanks to the almost two-meter-long cargo area.

Similar to other models in the ID. family, the ID.7 Tourer is based on the MEB platform from the Volkswagen Group. This modular platform allows for short overhangs and a long wheelbase, benefiting the interior space. The result is an elegant full-sized hatchback version with ample room and an expanded trunk volume.

Production of the ID.7 Tourer, like the ID.7, will take place at the Volkswagen plant in Emden. Following the production of the ID.4, the ID.7 will be the second MEB-based model manufactured in the north-west region of Germany.

Jonny Walker Dominates Prescott EnduroCross

The second round of the IRC Tire EnduroCross Series, presented by Progressive, took place at Findlay Toyota Center in Prescott, Arizona. Jonny Walker of Britain continued his perfect season by winning all three motos on his factory Beta motorcycle. This mirrored his performance at the season opener in Everett, Washington, two weeks prior. Walker also secured the top spot in hot-lap qualifying, posting a time two seconds faster than any other rider.

In the first moto, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna rider Colton Haaker got off to a strong start and led the race until Walker executed an aggressive pass in the challenging rock section to take the lead. Despite the tough track conditions, Walker was able to maintain his advantage and secure the win.

The second and third motos followed a similar pattern, with Haaker once again taking the holeshot in both races. However, Walker maintained consistent pressure and made the crucial passes to secure victories in each moto.

Haaker finished second overall with a 2-2-2 score, while Cody Webb of FactoryOne Sherco rounded out the podium with a 4-3-3 tally. Ryder LeBlond of Rockstar Energy Husqvarna took fourth place with a 3-6-4 performance.

In the Women’s Pro final, Rachel Gutish of Over and Out/GasGas made a come-from-behind effort to claim the victory. Melissa Harten (Beta) finished in second place, followed by Kylee Sweeten (GasGas) in third.

Overall, it was another impressive display from Jonny Walker, who looks unstoppable in the IRC Tire EnduroCross Series. The next round will take place in Idaho, where Walker will aim to continue his winning streak.

Overall Results:

  1. Jonny Walker (Beta) 1-1-1
  2. Colton Haaker (Husqvarna) 2-2-2
  3. Cody Webb (Beta) 4-3-3
  4. Ryder LeBlond (Husqvarna) 3-6-4
  5. Trystan Hart (KTM) 5-4-7
  6. Taddy Blazusiak (GasGas) 6-7-5
  7. Cooper Abbott (Beta) 9-5-6
  8. Will Riordan (KTM) 7-8-9
  9. Max Gerston (GasGas) 8-10-8
  10. Dominik Olszowy (Sherco) 11-9-10

Chevy Corvette ZR1 Drops Heavy Camo As Development Moves To Nurburgring [UPDATE]

Update: Added 21 additional spy photos to a new photo gallery showing C8 Corvette ZR1 prototypes in action at the Nurburgring.

The next-generation Chevrolet Corvette in ZR1 trim hasn’t exactly been a secret so far. We’ve already seen several heavily camouflaged prototypes testing in different locations around the United States. However, it seems that the automaker is now moving the development to the Old Continent. At least two different prototypes were recently caught testing on the famous Nurburgring race track.

Riding the 2024 Yamaha YZ250F: The Wrap

Sometimes, when a new model is significant, its introduction can last for weeks. We were first introduced to the 2024 Yamaha YZ250F through photos on July 26. Then, on September 24th, we had the chance to see it in person at the L.A. Coliseum for the SMX finals. Finally, last Tuesday, the press had the opportunity to ride it for the first time at Perris Raceway. We spent most of the day taking photos and videos with Carson Brown. Thursday marked the first official day of testing at Glen Helen.

We received the 2024 YZ250F at the LA Coliseum

I find this bike particularly interesting because I am a fan of racing 250 four-strokes. The YZ250F has been our shootout winner for several years now, but it never became my personal favorite. It always felt a bit cramped for me. While I respect Steve Butler in Yamaha’s testing department, he is a small person, and the YZ reflected that. Now, it seems that Travis Preston has advocated for riders of average size. The YZ250F has grown up, adopting the frame that was introduced last year for the YZ450F. The reception of that bike was mixed among our staff. Pete Murray loved it and still does, while Mark Tilley found its handling traits odd and felt it needed more stability. Initially, most of the press sided with Pete, but many of Yamaha’s pro riders, including Dylan Ferrandis, felt more like Mark.

Carson Brown joined us on the first day of testing the YZ250F. He owns a 2023 YZ450F and a 2022 YZ250F.

The Yamaha YZ250F is now the largest and most spacious of all the 250 motocross bikes. It is a large bike with a tall seat height and a rider layout that is relaxed. It is beloved by larger riders, although smaller riders may need to make some adjustments. Sean Lipanovich, who is 5’5″, struggled to touch the ground flat-footed on almost any full-sized motorcycle. The Yamaha posed a challenge for him to even swing a leg over. He would also require starting blocks for a gate launch. However, these issues were insignificant on the track.

The 50th Anniversary Edition of the YZ250F, which is priced at $9099: $200 more than the standard edition.

In terms of overall handling, both Sean and I loved it. You can enter turns aggressively, point the front wheel, and come out of them with less throttle compared to other bikes. You don’t need to have the throttle wide open just to make it turn. The bike feels lighter and more responsive. However, it does feel a bit busier at the entry of the turn. If you currently ride a Honda or KTM, you will feel right at home from the start. If you were a big fan of the nature of the old YZ250F, you might need some time to adjust to the changes.

Yamaha made the YZ250F narrower, taller, and lighter this year.

Regarding suspension, everyone loved the YZ. This sentiment was true for pro-level riders like Carson Brown and for super-duper seniors like me. Generally, the YZ suspension doesn’t excel on low-speed, choppy tracks, but it performs remarkably well at higher speeds and over larger bumps. It maintains stability while absorbing the biggest whoops and the most challenging conditions.

The new YZ250F is much narrower. It weighs 225 pounds without fuel on our scale, which is 2 pounds less than last year.

If there’s anything that might hold back the YZ in the coming year, it’s the fact that its engine remains relatively unchanged. While it is still a powerful 250 four-stroke, other bikes in the same category offer even more power. Kawasaki, KTM, and Husqvarna already have an advantage in terms of mid- and top-end power. However, where the Yamaha still shines is in its throttle response. It achieves more with just a quarter or half throttle compared to nearly anything else. We currently have the bike in our possession and will be holding on to it for some time. The full test will be featured in the December 2023 print edition of Dirt Bike.

Suzuki & More with Carson Brown

On Monday, we had the opportunity to ride the 2024 Suzuki RM-Z450 and RM-Z250. There were no changes, but there is a twist this year. For a limited time, Suzuki is offering the option to transform your bike into an RM Army Special Edition by providing you with a Pro Circuit exhaust and graphics. The price remains at $9199, and unlike other special editions, you get to keep your stock parts.

We were lucky enough to also ride Ken Roczen’s bike at the Suzuki intro on Monday. Well, when I say “we,” I mean that Carson Brown got to ride it while I took photos and videos. Sometimes, seniority isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. We will soon release a video featuring everything Carson had to say about it.

The RM Army promotion allows RM-Z buyers to obtain a Pro Circuit exhaust and special graphics.

Go Team Guam!

Sean Lipanovich, one of our regular test riders and one of our favorite people, will be representing the U.S. Territory of Guam at the Motocross of Nations in Ernee, France next week. He will be joined by Josh Varise and Grant Harlan. Sean’s dad Pete, another amazing person, will be the team manager, along with Doug Dubach. We love these guys!

Audi RS6 E-Tron Spied With Wide Fenders, Pizza-Sized Brake Rotors

Audi has been caught testing a prototype of its all-electric RS6 E-Tron, and the spy photos reveal some interesting details. The front of the car features wide fender flares that wouldn’t look out of place on a Ford Bronco Raptor. The tires are tall, wide, and low-profile, though their exact size is difficult to make out in the pictures. Behind the tires, there are shiny cross-drilled brake rotors that look barely small enough to fit behind the wheel. These are clearly not components you would find on a standard Audi sedan.

Moving to the back of the car, there are more unique body lines, with the quarter panels jutting out. There is also a mysterious piece of plastic across the back, which may be hiding a spoiler. Zooming in, it becomes clear that there is a broken spoiler on the right side. Additionally, there is an aggressive diffuser tucked in the back, and no exhaust pipes are visible.

All of these features lead to the conclusion that this is an Audi RS6 E-Tron prototype. It is worth noting that these spy photos are likely of a test mule rather than a finalized prototype, as the fender flares appear to be temporary and unfinished. Audi has already stated that the RS6 E-Tron will be more than just an A6 E-Tron with more power. The widebody design seen in these photos is an indication of the car’s aggressive stance and overall performance.

Peugeot E-5008 Spotted with Angular Design, Hinting at an upcoming Electric SUV

Newly released spy photos give us a glimpse of what appears to be the upcoming Peugeot E-5008 electric SUV. While it is uncertain whether this model will debut next year or by 2025, it is undoubtedly part of Peugeot’s strategy to expand its electric vehicle lineup.

What sets this spy shot apart from previous ones of the 5008 is its closed-off front end, replacing the traditional open grille. This design choice is commonly seen in electric vehicles, as they require different cooling mechanisms compared to conventional cars. Additionally, slender headlights can be observed just below the hood’s edge.

Fisker Provides Details on the Pear Electric Crossover with a Range of Up To 320 Miles

Fisker has revealed more information and photos of the Pear, its upcoming entry-level model, following the preview of its future lineup on August 3.

The company has also announced that a production-intent Fisker Pear will be displayed to the public at the Fisker Lounge Munich from September 4-10, coinciding with the IAA Mobility 2023 event in Munich.

Priced at $29,900 (before incentives), the Pear is a crossover with seating for five or six people. It has a length of 179.1 inches (4,550 millimeters), making it smaller than the Fisker Ocean SUV but still spacious in its segment. The five-seat version can be converted into a six-seater by replacing the single front passenger seat and center console with a large two-seat bench.

One of the notable features is its Houdini trunk, which allows owners to load and unload in tight street parking situations and prevent damage in parking structures with low ceilings. The trunk lid and glass move down behind the rear bumper beam, providing protection in the event of a rear crash. Fisker has mentioned that the Houdini trunk demonstrated at low speed on August 3 will operate at high speed in the production version.

Next-Gen Nissan Kicks Spotted before June 2024 Production

Nissan has been quietly developing the next-generation Kicks, and recent spy photos reveal the small crossover in testing. Although its market launch is still about a year away, let’s take a closer look at this prototype.

The fully camouflaged trial vehicle showcases a more refined overall design. The front fascia stands out with a new radiator grille that features horizontal slats between the headlights, unlike the U-shaped grille found in the current model. The exact shape of the front lighting units is difficult to discern at this point, but it appears that they will be slimmer and potentially sport a completely new lighting signature.
