idealworks: BMW Group subsidiary gains Agile Robots AG as majority shareholder

Munich-based technology company Agile Robots AG is joining idealworks, a subsidiary of the BMW Group, as a strategic investor. Founded in 2020, idealworks is focused on promoting industrial automation in production and logistics through the development of a robotics ecosystem. The idealworks portfolio includes the intelligent automation platform AnyFleet, the autonomous mobile robot (AMR) iw.hub, and the mobile robotics operating system iw.os. Agile Robots AG, a spin-off of the German Aerospace Center (DLR), specializes in robotic-based solutions for industries like automotive and consumer electronics.

By partnering with Agile Robots AG, the BMW Group gains a strong strategic partner for idealworks. The investment, made within a Series A financing round, enables idealworks to expand its product portfolio and develop new solutions and technologies. The partnership also allows for access to new markets and accelerates the internationalization of the business segment.

Both idealworks and Agile Robots AG complement each other in terms of industry expertise and range of solutions. They will work together to further expand the robotics ecosystem and promote innovative solutions in the field of industrial automation.

The CEO of Agile Robots AG, Dr. Zhaopeng Chen, states that the combination of software and hardware capabilities provides a strong foundation for serving customers globally with automation solutions. The partnership combines German innovation and engineering expertise with the speed, global reach, and entrepreneurial vision of both companies.

According to Michael Alexander Schneider, CEO of idealworks, the Series A financing round strengthens the company’s position in industrial automation. The collaboration with Agile Robots AG allows them to jointly develop innovative solutions and offer customers more stability and reliability.

The cooperation between idealworks and Agile Robots AG offers extensive growth potential. Agile Robots AG brings its expertise in robotics and artificial intelligence along with its global network, while idealworks has the BMW Group as one of its largest customers and industrial know-how. The two companies rely on cross-process platforms and artificial intelligence as key success factors in handling heterogeneous robot fleets in complex environments.

The transaction between idealworks and Agile Robots AG is subject to approval by relevant authorities. The terms and conditions of the investment have not been disclosed.
