Nio ET5 electric saloon on display at Goodwood ahead of UK launch

The Chinese premium electric vehicle brand, Nio, will make its debut in the UK next year, according to the company’s founder and CEO, William Li. During Nio’s launch event in Germany on Friday, Li announced that the brand will enter the UK market with its mid-sized Nio ET5 saloon, which will directly compete with the Tesla Model 3. Additionally, Nio will introduce other models that are better suited for the UK market, although Li did not reveal specific details about these models.

One of Nio’s unique selling points in the UK will be its battery swap stations, allowing owners to change their batteries in approximately five minutes. To achieve widespread availability, Nio will need to establish a significant network of battery swap stations.

Nio has already identified a location in London for its Nio House showroom, which will serve as both a display area for its models and a social space. This is consistent with Nio Houses in China, Norway, and Germany.

The company is currently in the process of hiring staff for its UK launch, including a brand manager, a sales manager, and a general manager. The general manager position has been filled recently; however, the name has not been disclosed yet.

When it comes to ownership, Nio will exclusively lease its vehicles in the UK. Customers will have the option to lease for a fixed period or through a more flexible subscription model, which allows for vehicle returns with as little as one month’s notice. This subscription model has proven successful for Chinese brand Lynk&Co, owned by Geely, in establishing itself in certain European markets.

Although Nio launched its brand globally in 2016 in London, it initially limited sales to China. Last year, Nio expanded its presence to Europe, starting in Norway, where it also constructed its first battery swap station. The recent launch in Berlin not only signifies Nio’s expansion in Germany but also in Sweden, the Netherlands, and Denmark.

Deliveries of the ET7 large saloon car will commence in October in Germany, followed by the EL7 large SUV and ET5 in March. As of now, pricing details have not been divulged.

What Makes The Honda e:Ny1 Special

Demand for electric SUVs is growing, and Honda is following suit. Introducing the Honda e:Ny1, the first fully electric SUV from Honda for the European market. The e:Ny1 will accelerate from 0 to 62 MPH in 8.0 seconds, prioritizing smooth and comfortable acceleration and deceleration over outright speed. With a 68.8 kWh battery, it will have a WLTP range of 257 miles (412 km), offering impressive range for worry-free trips.
