What to Do If Your Car Keys Get Stuck in the Ignition

If you find yourself in a situation where your car keys are stuck in the ignition, it’s important to understand that the problem is most likely not with the key or the ignition slot itself. The chances of contaminants getting in and causing the issue are quite low, unless you have been exposing your keys to mud or dirt. However, there is still a possibility that small metal bits can get stuck on a newly made key.

In most cases, the keys get stuck due to improper car settings. When you park your car and attempt to remove your keys, it is crucial that you follow a specific procedure. Firstly, the gear selector must be in the park position, and secondly, the steering wheel needs to be centered. If the car is in drive or the wheel is turned too far to one side, the ignition will not release the keys as a safety measure.

Another possible reason for the keys getting stuck is that the ignition is not completely turned off. It’s important to remember that turning the key one notch only activates the car’s accessories, such as lights and radio. To release the keys, you must turn the ignition all the way off, past accessory mode.

This Is The “New” Toyota Land Cruiser For Humanitarian Efforts

You might not expect to find a high concentration of Land Cruisers 70 Series models in Geneva, Switzerland. The county’s pristine road network is anything but austere. But Geneva is also home to the United Nations, The International Committee of the Red Cross, and a bevy of other humanitarian aid organizations that operate in the most extreme regions of the globe.

In other words, Geneva is the perfect place to launch the GDJ76. While it may look like a classic, this is a brand-new Land Cruiser made by Toyota Gibraltar Stockholdings, a modifier and distributor of Toyota fleet vehicles that then sells the SUVs exclusively to humanitarian aid organizations like the ones mentioned.

Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series Humanitarian Efforts

Toyota Gibraltar Stockholdings currently sells the HZJ76, the “wagon” variant in the 70 Series lineup, configured to carry 10 passengers thanks to troop seating in the rear. This is the vehicle you’ve likely seen on the news wearing the UN livery.

The new GDJ76 features the same updated treatment as the contemporary Australian and JDM “civilian” versions, but it foregoes many of the creature comforts like automatic high-beam headlights (the GDJ76 is equipped with basic halogen lamps), a digital gauge cluster, or a touchscreen. What it does come equipped with, however, is Toyota Active Traction Control (or, A-TRAC) with manually locking hubs for greater reliability. The signature white paint and black snorkel also carry over from the HZJ76.

Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series Humanitarian Efforts

Powering the new GDJ76 from Toyota Gibraltar Stockholdings is the 1GD-FTV engine, a 2.8-liter four-cylinder diesel mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. This is where the major improvements are – according to TGS, fuel economy is up 30 percent from the prior six-cylinder 1HZ, and power is up from 129 horsepower to 201 hp as well. Emissions have gone down 30 percent, and that allows the GDJ76 to meet Euro4 emissions standards, necessary to operate in some of the nations the truck will serve in.

It’s important to note that the GDJ76 isn’t necessarily a replacement for the HZJ76. The two models will continue to be produced in parallel for at least one year, and clients of TGS can still order the HZJ76 despite the significant improvements of the GDJ76. It’s unknown when – and if – Toyota will phase out the HZJ76 completely.

A spokesperson from TGS noted that room inside the engine bay has significantly decreased with the GDJ76, which means they’ll have to come up with an engineering solution for some of the demands from aid organizations like dual batteries, larger alternators, and systems that run off engine power like refrigeration (for transporting vaccines).

As of now, delivery of the GDJ76 to aid organizations will begin in March, and according to TGS, the United Nations is among the first customers with a sizable fleet order.

5 Key Signs That Your Refrigerator Is About To Break

Your refrigerator’s freezer compartment should not be covered in ice from top to bottom. The freezer is meant to maintain a dry cold temperature without any water vapor. If you notice a lot of ice, it indicates that your freezer is not being properly regulated.

There are two common causes for this issue. First, it could be due to a defective freezer door seal. Second, there might be a problem with the fridge’s internal temperature regulation system. Regardless of the cause, an iced-up freezer can put your stored food at risk of freezing completely. Depending on the type of refrigerator you have, you can either manually defrost it using an ice scraper or run an internal defrosting program. Although it might not indicate an immediate danger, it is important to monitor this situation closely.

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE And Tab S9 FE Offer High-end Features At Affordable Prices

The Fan Edition (FE) lineup from Samsung provides many flagship features that users typically expect, while making a few necessary sacrifices to offer these devices at lower price points. However, Samsung has also included some upgrades with their latest handset. The Galaxy S23 FE boasts a larger 6.4-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED display with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, slightly smaller than the S23 Plus (6.6 inches). In addition, the FE version has a larger battery capacity of 4,500 mAh compared to the regular S23’s 3,900 mAh.

Despite these slight downgrades, the Galaxy S23 FE includes all the essential features found in flagship devices. It comes equipped with a 50-megapixel wide-angle camera, an 8-megapixel telephoto camera, and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera. On the front, there is a 10-megapixel module. For comparison, the non-FE version of the S23 has a 10-megapixel telephoto camera and a 12-megapixel front camera.

The device also offers support for fast wireless charging, wireless powersharing, and fast wired charging. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi 6E, and 5G. Users can enjoy the Samsung Knox security platform along with the Knox Vault, an IP68 water-resistant build, and Android 13 out of the box.

The Galaxy S23 FE will be available in purple, graphite, cream, mint, tangerine, and indigo colors, and will be priced at $599. This is $200 lower than the base non-FE version of the S23. The device will be released on October 10th, and customers can purchase it at that time.

796 Suzuki Jimny Drivers Achieve Guinness World Record for Simultaneously Switching on Lights

Guinness World Records never fail to surprise us with their diverse categories. In an unexpected turn of events, the Jimny Gathering 2023 in Clarens, South Africa, saw a remarkable accomplishment. A total of 796 Suzuki Jimny SUV owners successfully set the record for “Most cars to switch on their lights simultaneously” by illuminating their vehicle’s headlamps at once.

The Jimny Gathering took place from September 22 to 24, 2023, with the record-breaking attempt occurring on the final day. According to the rules, the owners had to activate their car’s lights within a five-second timeframe for the endeavor to be deemed successful.

Is There A Better Time Of Year To Buy An iPhone? Here’s What You Should Know

Apple’s pricing controls make it unlikely to find significant sales on the newest iPhones immediately after their release, usually in September for the flagship and March for the iPhone SE. While there may be carrier promotions offering increased trade-in value or conditional bill credits, these won’t benefit those looking to buy the phone outright at a discount. So, when can you find significant iPhone discounts?

If you’re interested in the previous model year’s phone, its price usually drops after the announcement of the newest model. This also increases the chances of finding additional discounts during major holiday sale events like Thanksgiving/Black Friday/Cyber Monday, Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Amazon’s Prime Day.

Therefore, the best time to buy the current iPhone is typically during the winter through spring months, with Memorial Day being the most favorable holiday relative to Apple’s release cycle. While you may come across other sales for Prime Day and Labor Day, it is generally advisable to wait until the new model is released unless the discount is exceptionally high compared to Apple’s usual price drops year over year.

Chevrolet Corvette Z06

The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is known for its powerful engine and impressive performance. While it may not have the traditional rumble of a small-block V8, its flat-plane-crank V8 engine offers a smooth and consistent idle. However, when you step on the accelerator, you’ll experience the immediate response and high-revving capability that make the LT6 engine stand out. The Z06’s performance becomes more dramatic as the revs increase, especially above 4000rpm.

The engine delivers power in a linear and progressive manner. When driven at higher speeds and revs, it gains an extra surge of power. Although not as dramatic as a Honda VTEC kick, this characteristic is still noticeable and adds to the driving experience.

As the engine approaches its redline at 8600rpm, it unleashes a thrilling metallic sound that rivals the exhaust notes of top European sports cars. In terms of acceleration, the Z06 performs exceptionally well. With warm Cup 2 R tires and optimal grip, it can reach 60mph from a standstill in just 3.1 seconds, 100mph in 6.8 seconds, and complete a quarter-mile in 11.2 seconds. These figures surpass those of a Porsche 911 GT3 PDK but may be outperformed by turbocharged or hybrid-powered rivals like the Porsche 911 Turbo S, McLaren 720S, or Ferrari 296 GTB.

On normal roads, the Z06 offers various driving modes that can be adjusted to suit different preferences and conditions. While some testers may find the selection overwhelming, it doesn’t cause major issues. The carbon brakes provide manageable bite and progression, and the dual-clutch gearbox delivers quick and precise shifts. However, it’s the V8 engine that truly shines, with its impressive power, responsiveness, sharpness, and mechanical charm.

Track Notes (Hill Route, Millbrook Proving Ground)

While the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 excels on wide and fast circuits like Silverstone or Laguna Seca, it still demonstrates impressive pace and handling precision on the tighter bends of the Millbrook Alpine Hill Route. Its stiff chassis provides excellent stability, allowing for precise turn-ins and maintaining grip even at high speeds. The dampers work effectively, distributing the load evenly on the tires, and the electronic stability aids offer confidence when accelerating out of corners.

When the stability aids are turned off, the Z06’s rear axle, equipped with 13-inch-wide tires, can be provoked into predictable oversteer. Controlling the car may require quick reflexes, but it remains manageable and predictable at its limits.

Miami-Dade Police Recover Multiple Cars From Lake, Some Reported Stolen

In an unexpected twist, a person swimming through a lake in Doral, Florida discovered a shocking sight — 20 submerged cars. The individual promptly alerted the authorities, prompting the Miami-Dade Police to respond to the scene and retrieve the vehicles from the water. During the operation, law enforcement officers also uncovered connections between some of the recovered automobiles and unsolved crimes.

A video capturing the incident shows two cars being pulled out of the lake. The first vehicle is identified as an Acura Legend coupe, which according to NBC6 News was reported stolen in the early 2000s. Additionally, Doral Police Department Chief Edwin Lopez reveals that the second car is a sixth-generation Cadillac De Ville stolen in the late 90s.

Both the Acura Legend and the Cadillac De Ville were considered high-end cars at the time. In terms of pricing, a 1994 Acura Legend Coupe started at $38,085 when brand new, equivalent to approximately $80,000 in 2023, as reported by Kelley Blue Book. Similarly, a 1992 Cadillac De Ville had a starting price of $32,910, which amounts to around $85,000 in today’s value.

Aside from these two vehicles, the police also discovered a stolen 2002 Nissan Altima, although it is not featured in the video clip.

To retrieve the cars, divers employed flotation devices and ropes to bring them closer to the shore. Once there, a crane was deployed to lift the vehicles out of the water.

Doral Mayor Christi Fraga commented on the situation, stating, “It seems that this area was a hot spot where cars were driven into the lakes before any development took place. As each vehicle is pulled out of the water, a thorough investigation will be conducted. The VIN numbers will be checked to ascertain any potential connections to long-standing open cases.”

Although these cars have been submerged for several decades, salvageable parts may still exist. Notably, an Acura NSX that spent 15 years in a river serves as an example of a vehicle that was restored after being underwater, as documented in this Motor1 article. The new owners have even begun restoring it as a track car, as highlighted in this related Motor1 article.

Will We See A Panoramic Sunroof In A Sub-Compact SUV?

Panoramic sunroofs are becoming popular in compact SUVs and higher segments. But can we expect to see them in smaller SUVs like the Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon, and Hyundai Venue?

The trend for sunroofs is going strong, with even small cars like the Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter offering them. However, panoramic sunroofs are even more popular. They are now a common feature in compact SUVs like the Maruti Grand Vitara, MG Astor, Kia Seltos, and Hyundai Creta. These SUVs range from Rs 11 lakh to Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). The demand for panoramic sunroofs is increasing, making many wonder if they will soon be available in even smaller SUVs like subcompact models. Let’s explore this question in detail:

What Is A Panoramic Sunroof And How Does It Work?

Simply put, a panoramic sunroof offers a larger view of the sky than a typical single-pane sunroof. It stretches from the center console area to the rear seats. When not in use, a fabric lining covers the glass. Usually, only half of the panoramic sunroof opens up, while the other half remains as a glass roof. Some SUVs like the Grand Vitara and Hyryder have an extended opening, benefiting rear seat passengers as well. The panoramic sunroof is operated electronically through a button located in the console above the front seats.

The Structural Complexity Of A Panoramic Sunroof

Designing a car with a panoramic sunroof requires careful consideration of the car’s structure. Car manufacturers ensure that the addition of a panoramic sunroof does not compromise the safety and structural integrity of the vehicle. In the event of a rollover, the roof pillars absorb the impact, preventing the sunroof from obstructing the passengers. However, incorporating a panoramic sunroof does require some changes to the cabin layout. The headroom may be affected due to the lower placement of the roof liner. Additionally, in three-row cars, a roof-mounted AC vent cannot be installed, and rear vents are usually positioned elsewhere.

Can A Sub-4 Metre Car Offer A Panoramic Sunroof?

Peugeot e208

Currently, the smallest car globally that offers a panoramic sunroof (not a fixed glass roof) is the Peugeot e208, which is 4.05mm long. If a subcompact car were to accommodate this feature, it would likely be an SUV measuring 4.2 to 4.3 meters in length. Many sub-4 meter SUVs already come with a single pane sunroof, and a panoramic sunroof would enhance the interior’s airiness. While the panoramic experience in smaller SUVs may not be the same as in larger SUVs, there is potential for a similar feel. The size of the opening section may be compromised, but a larger glass area can compensate. However, it remains to be seen if manufacturers can implement this feature safely and effectively.

Which Subcompact Models Could Offer It?

In the subcompact SUV segment, there are a few potential candidates that could potentially offer a larger sunroof. Hyundai and Kia are known for introducing segment-first features, and Mahindra has also been incorporating premium experiences into their smaller and more affordable cars. Reports suggest that the Mahindra XUV300 may offer a panoramic sunroof with its new generation update in 2024. If this feature is introduced, it is likely that other models like the Venue and Sonet will follow suit.

The Added Cost

The panoramic sunroof feature is usually not offered as a standalone option but comes bundled with other features like a wireless charger and ventilated front seats. Therefore, it is difficult to assess the exact premium charged for this feature alone. However, a panoramic sunroof typically adds a premium of around Rs 80,000 to Rs 1 lakh.

Why Has Nobody Done It Yet?

Subcompact SUVs

It is likely the price factor, rather than the engineering challenge, that has prevented carmakers from offering panoramic sunroofs in subcompact SUVs. The premium cost of this feature could bring the overall price of a subcompact SUV close to that of mid-spec variants of larger SUVs. These larger SUVs offer more cabin space, road presence, and often better performance. For example, the top-spec XUV 300 retails for Rs 13.30 lakh, and with the addition of a panoramic sunroof, it could cost around Rs 14.50 lakh (ex-showroom). At a similar price, one could opt for a higher-end variant of the Hyundai Creta, which already offers a panoramic sunroof.

In conclusion, while it is highly likely that some brand will introduce a panoramic sunroof in the subcompact SUV segment, its success will depend on market demand. Customers will need to decide whether they are willing to pay more for a smaller car with this feature or if they would prefer to upgrade to a larger model with fewer premium comforts.
