BMW Announces Polish Premiere of EVOLVER VR Experience at Polish National Opera

Munich/Warsaw. This year, the “BMW Art Club. The Future is Art” will showcase the VR experience EVOLVER, created by London-based art collective Marshmallow Laser Feast, for the first time in Poland. EVOLVER combines art, science, and technology to take viewers on an immersive journey inside the human body, exploring the flow of oxygen and the interconnectedness of all life. The premiere of EVOLVER will take place at the Opera Gallery of the Polish National Opera on October 12, 2023, and will be open until December 10.

Science and art share the same goal of understanding and describing the world. EVOLVER aims to bridge the gap between scientific precision and emotional art experiences by placing audiences at the center of these ecosystems. The VR experience allows viewers to explore the hidden structures of the body and visualize the essence of life as air travels through the respiratory and circulatory systems.

Several prominent figures from the cultural world contributed to EVOLVER, including directorTerrence Malick as the executive producer, actress Cate Blanchett as the narrator, poet Daisy Lafarge, and Radiohead’s guitarist Jonny Greenwood. The project also received support and expertise from scientific institutions such as the Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Medicine MEVIS, The Allen Institute for Cell Science, and Buck Institute for Research on Ageing.

The “BMW Art Club. The Future is Art” aims to explore the combination of art and technology and how it shapes our understanding of the contemporary world. EVOLVER, presented at the Opera Gallery, offers a technologically advanced and visionary experience for the senses. Spectators are guided through an audio meditation followed by a VR journey inside the human body, and the exhibition concludes with a gallery presenting digital pieces and a film expanding on the exhibition’s narrative.

The Polish premiere of EVOLVER is made possible with the support of Morele GeForce RTX Studio PCs, certified by NVIDIA. These high-performance PCs are designed for professionals in graphics, video, and virtual reality, offering optimal performance for demanding applications.

The world premiere of EVOLVER took place at Tribeca Film Festival 2022 in New York, and now it will be available for the general audience at the Opera Gallery of the Polish National Opera from October 12 to December 10, 2023. Attendees can register for free tickets online or at the ticket office of the National Opera, Teatr Wielki, starting from September 12.

BMW Championship kicks off with Gardner Heidrick Pro-Am

US sports stars will open the BMW Championship at Olympia Fields Country Club in Chicago, USA. The Gardner Heidrick Pro-Am event will be held in support of the Evans Scholars Foundation. The PGA TOUR playoff tournament will feature 50 world-class golfers. A Hole-in-One Award will be given to the player and their caddie – an all-electric BMW i5.

The BMW Championship is the second-to-last playoff event in the FedExCup. Only the top 50 pros from the PGA TOUR season are eligible to participate. This year’s field of players, who will compete at Olympia Fields Country Club in Chicago, promises to be of the highest quality. Patrick Cantlay, the two-time defending champion, will aim to become the first-ever three-time winner of the event since BMW became the title partner in 2007.

With almost all of the top 20 players in the world rankings participating, Cantlay faces a tough task of defending his title. Other notable players to watch out for include Jon Rahm, the current FedExCup leader, reigning Masters champion, and winner of last year’s BMW Championship at Olympia Fields. The world’s number one player, Scottie Scheffler, as well as Rory McIlroy, Wyndham Clark, and Brian Harman, are also among the top pros competing.

The tournament week began with the traditional Gardner Heidrick Pro-Am on Wednesday. Prominent US sports figures, including CC Sabathia, Victor Cruz, and Conner De Phillippi, participated as amateurs alongside professional golfers.

The Gardner Heidrick Pro-Am serves as the largest annual fundraiser for the Evans Scholars Foundation (ESF). All proceeds from this year’s BMW Championship will benefit the ESF, which provides college scholarships to deserving caddies across the country. Since 2007, the BMW Championship has raised over $45 million in support of the ESF, helping thousands of students achieve their college dreams.

BMW will also contribute a four-year Evans Scholarship in the name of the first PGA TOUR player to achieve a hole-in-one during the tournament. This scholarship covers full college tuition and housing. BMW has already awarded six Hole-In-One Scholarships, with Viktor Hovland being the most recent recipient in the 2022 tournament.

If a professional golfer manages to get a hole-in-one on the 16th hole, both the player and their caddie will receive two all-new, fully electric BMW i5 Sedans as a reward. Since all proceeds from the BMW Championship go to the Evans Scholars Foundation, it is fitting that the caddie also gets a new car when the player wins one.

In addition to the intense competition for one of the most prestigious titles on the PGA TOUR and a total prize fund of $20 million, the BMW Championship also plays a role in the team selection for the Ryder Cup. This is the last chance for American players to earn points and secure a spot on the team captained by Zach Johnson. The top six players in the rankings have already secured their places in the defending champions’ squad. Johnson will use his Captain’s Picks to select six more players. The team will face the European selection in Rome, Italy from September 25th to October 1st, 2023. BMW will be a Worldwide Partner of this legendary team competition.

From the archive: on this day in 1898

In 1898, France was at the forefront of the emerging world of motoring. The Automobile Club de France (ACF) had been established in 1895, and within just three years, the number of cars on French roads had reached around 2000. With this growing popularity, co-founder Jules de Dion believed it was time to showcase these vehicles to the public.

It is worth noting that de Dion himself had achieved significant feats in the world of automobiles prior to this exhibition. In 1894, he won the world’s first car race in a car made by his own company. He also played a role in founding L’Aéro-Club de France, set up a newspaper that created the Tour de France, and even served as a Member of Parliament. His name is still commonly associated with the term “axle.”

The chosen location for the exhibition was Le Jardin des Tuileries, a central spot in Paris between La Place de la Concorde and the Louvre. A temporary roof was constructed to cover the displays. To ensure that only serious exhibitors participated, cars had to be demonstrably driven beforehand.

The Exposition Internationale d’Automobiles drew a crowd of approximately 140,000 people. They had the opportunity to marvel at 232 car models from 77 different manufacturers.

According to our report at the time, the exhibition provided strong evidence of the viability of the automobile industry. The display of various vehicle propulsion systems showcased the significant advancements anticipated in the near future. We noted, “Among them, there were many ingenious and interesting devices that might be turned to excellent account, although some were of indifferent merit or utterly impracticable.”

One of the prominent exhibitors was De Dion-Bouton, which showcased its motorised tricycles and cars, alongside a remarkable 20-seat steam-powered omnibus capable of producing an impressive 50bhp.

Another notable presence was Panhard et Levassor, which displayed 12 vehicles of different types. Our report mentioned the beautifully finished carriage work and luxurious upholstery, surpassing the standards typically associated with horse-drawn vehicles.

Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts Conclude Historic Anniversary Re-enactment Tour with Grand Finale in Salzburg

  • Members of the 20-Ghost Club conclude their epic re-enactment of the 1913 Alpenfahrt in Salzburg
  • The event marks the 110th anniversary of the 7-day, 2,600km trial that immortalized Rolls-Royce as ‘the best car in the world’
  • Participants, including pre-1940 and contemporary Rolls-Royce motor cars, closely followed the original Alpenfahrt route over some of Europe’s highest roads
  • Inaugural ‘Inspiring Greatness Trophy’ presented by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, echoing the prizes awarded to the all-conquering Rolls-Royce Works team in 1913

“The dominant performance by the Silver Ghosts of the Rolls-Royce Works team at the 1913 Alpenfahrt confirmed Rolls-Royce as ‘the best car in the world’. This wonderful re-enactment, marking the 110th anniversary of that landmark event, is a tribute to their achievements, and to the engineering excellence of these historic Rolls-Royce motor cars. That so many examples remain not only fully operational, but able to undertake the same extraordinary endeavors they did more than a century ago is a testament to their devoted owners’ meticulous care and attention. These remarkable people and their magnificent motor cars inspire greatness every time they take to the road; I’ve been honored to be part of this unique adventure.”
Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars

The participants in the 110th anniversary re-enactment of the 1913 Alpenfahrt, comprising members of the 20-Ghost Club (the world’s oldest Rolls-Royce owners’ club and devoted exclusively to models built before 1940), make a triumphant return to Salzburg after a 16-day, 2,600km odyssey through the Alps. Members were accompanied on part of their adventure by bespoke examples of the marque’s Ghost and Black Badge Ghost models, created at the Home of Rolls-Royce at Goodwood, which celebrates its own 20th anniversary this year.

The 2023 rally closely followed the route of the original event, taking in some of the highest roads in Europe. Among the cars taking part were Silver Ghosts, including one of the original motor cars that formed part of the original 1913 Works Team that helped seal Rolls-Royce’s reputation as ‘the best car in the world’.

Although today’s drivers were engaged in a more leisurely tour – rather than a fiercely fought contest between powerful commercial and sporting rivals – Rolls-Royce Motor Cars added a further touch of competitive authenticity by awarding its inaugural ‘Inspiring Greatness Trophy’. Judged and presented by Ken Forbes and Nick Naismith, it recognizes the 20-Ghost Club member who most perfectly embodies the marque’s central value, ‘Inspiring Greatness’.
