Volkswagen Is Investing 2M To Develop Scout EVs In Austria: Report

Back in May 2022, the Volkswagen Group revealed its plans to bring back the Scout brand, with the aim of introducing an all-electric pickup truck and an SUV by 2026. In a subsequent move in July, Scott Keogh was appointed CEO, and in March 2023, VW announced its intention to construct a new $2-billion assembly plant in Blythewood, South Carolina specifically for the two Scout models.

More recent reports suggest that VW has opted to outsource the development of the two models. According to Austrian newspaper Kleine Zeitung, Magna Steyr will be responsible for engineering the electric SUV and truck in exchange for a sizable sum of €450 million, which translates to approximately $492.7 million at current exchange rates. This is believed to be the largest development contract ever awarded to Magna Steyr.
