The 2023 NEC Classic Motor Show Sale just ended in Birmingham, England, where a beautiful 1938 Brough Superior SS100 was sold for an impressive £241,500, which is equivalent to nearly $300,000 American dollars.

What makes this bike special is its Matchless 990cc overhead valve SS100 V-twin engine. The model was named after being road-tested to a speed of 100 mph before leaving the factory.

Only 102 Matchless-powered bikes were ever produced, and only 25 are known to survive in 2023. This particular 1938 Brough Superior SS100, with the UK registration GUM 239, is a well-known, multiple award-winning bike.

Equipped with a Norton four-speed gearbox, Castle forks, and a twin float carburetor from the factory, this bike has been fully restored by Brough restoration expert Tony Cripps in 2010, preserving its history since 1954 and ownership up to 2018. It also comes with a comprehensive historical documentation file, including old photos, MOTs, tax discs, and other paperwork.

Despite its historical significance, this bike is more than just a museum piece. It is said to be in “good running order,” and has even won awards for being “Best Ridden To Show.”

While a walkaround video was posted prior to the sale, showcasing its condition, a startup video was not provided. Considering its rarity, it’s understandable that such footage was not made available.
