The Intelligent AWD System In Infiniti Cars: Balancing Sportiness And Safety

The AWD technology in Infiniti cars is continuously monitoring wheelspin, throttle position, and speed. Under normal conditions, the system directs 100% power to the rear wheels to improve weight balance and fuel efficiency. However, it can adapt to changing terrains.

In addition, the AWD system enhances the responsiveness of Infiniti cars in emergency situations. Chris Fischer, Infiniti Vehicle Performance Development Manager, explains that the all-new Infiniti QX60 is equipped with an all-wheel-drive system designed to tackle a wide range of situations, including deep snow, sand, and slick packed snow.

When unfavorable road conditions are detected, the system automatically diverts up to 50% of power to the front wheels. This allows the car to handle more challenging terrain and unstable roads, working in tandem with the driver’s decision-making.

Infiniti’s development team conducted tests on their QX60 cars in cold-weather environments including Alaska, Northern Quebec, and Michigan to fine-tune the adaptability of the AWD system. The system was also tested in desert conditions such as Death Valley, California, and Moab, Utah to simulate challenging sandy terrains and overcome similar obstacles.
