Rimac Nevera Competes Against McMurtry Speirling and F1 Car in Drag Race

In a recent drag race organized by Carwow, the speed of a Rimac Nevera, a McMurtry Speirling, and a Formula 1 car was put to the test. The main question at hand was whether electric supercars, such as the Nevera, could keep up with F1 technology from a decade ago or if the F1 car still had the advantage.

The Rimac Nevera, known for its incredible power, takes the lead with 1,914 horsepower and 1,740 pound-feet of torque (2,360 newton-meters). Despite being the heaviest of the three, weighing 5,071 pounds (2,300 kilograms), the Nevera boasts impressive acceleration capabilities, reaching 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 1.9 seconds and achieving a top speed of 258 mph.

McMurtry Speirling: Still Insanely Fast at Goodwood, Even in Wet Conditions

Last year, the McMurtry Speirling proved to be the undisputed champion at Goodwood. With an astonishing time of 39.08 seconds, it shattered the previous record held by the Volkswagen ID.R race car by nearly a full second on the 1.16-mile driveway course.

Now, the Speirling returns to the Festival Of Speed for the 2023 edition. The same prototype that set the record last year faced the hill climb once again on the second day of the Festival – and it remains incredibly fast, even in wet conditions.

Despite the damp track, the 1,000-plus horsepower Speirling effortlessly raced down the front straight and into the first corner, showcasing its impressive speed. Measuring only 126.0 inches in length and weighing less than 2,205 pounds, this penny racer handles corners like a go-kart, leaving a trail of rain in its wake.

McMurtry Spéirling Pure Revealed: Tiny 1,000-HP Electric Hypercar, Giant Price

The McMurtry Spéirling is a small electric hypercar that made headlines last year by breaking the Goodwood Hill Climb record. It completed the course in just 39.08 seconds with former F1 driver Max Chilton at the wheel, surpassing the previous record set by Romain Dumas in the VW ID.R by 0.8 seconds. The one-seater vehicle also impressed with its acceleration, going from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in a blistering 1.4 seconds.

Now, in June 2023, McMurtry Automotive has announced that the Spéirling will go into production. However, only 100 units will be produced, making it a very limited edition. The company plans to reveal a validation prototype next month at the Goodwood FoS, with pre-production prototypes expected to follow in 2024. Customer deliveries are set to begin in 2025.

Now, let’s talk about the price. The Spéirling Pure comes with a hefty price tag of £820,000 before taxes. For those using different currencies, that’s approximately $1.04 million or €954,000 according to current exchange rates.
