Gunther Werks Touring Turbo: A Modified Porsche 911 with a Twist

Gunther Werks, a California-based specialist known for restoring and reimagining Porsche 911s, has unveiled its latest creation at The Quail, a Motorsport Gathering. The new car, called the Touring Turbo Edition Coupe, is a 993-based restoration that retains the heart of a Porsche 911 while incorporating significant modifications.

One of the key changes is the replacement of the original air-cooled flat-six engine with a custom-built, twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter waterless powerplant developed by Rothsport Racing. This powerful engine is paired with a revamped Getrag six-speed manual transmission featuring new bespoke ratios.

The new flat-six delivers an impressive 750 horsepower, all of which is directed to the rear wheels. This output surpasses the maximum power of the Turbo project, the basis for this model, by 50 horsepower. The Turbo project was first introduced at the same event last year.

In addition to the enhanced performance, the Touring Turbo Edition Coupe boasts a carbon fiber ducktail rear wing that ensures optimal airflow to the air-cooled engine located at the rear. This unique spoiler also provides a more understated appearance compared to the standard Turbo wing offered by Gunther Werks. Interestingly, the ducktail spoiler, which is an optional addition to the standard wing, comes with its own carrying case.
