BMW chose not to enter the profitable off-road SUV market, opting instead to observe Mercedes’ success with the G-Class. Mercedes is currently developing a smaller version of their popular off-road vehicle to take advantage of its popularity. BMW, on the other hand, focuses on performance-oriented crossovers and SUVs, with the controversial XM plug-in hybrid being their flagship model.

One of BMW’s sporty X models is the recently unveiled X2 in the M35i specification. While it is primarily designed for road performance, it has been modified for off-road use to participate in the Rebelle Rally. However, it’s important to note that the modifications are not extensive, with only Falken Wildpeak all-terrain tires, Rotiform ZMO-M wheels, and underbody protection with a skid plate being added.
