The Tata Curvv will be the first production-spec Tata car with door handles that sit flush with the rest of the door

• Tata showcased a closer-to-production Curvv concept at the Auto Expo 2023.

One of the big showcases at the Auto Expo 2023 was the closer-to-production version of the Tata Curvv. It is an SUV coupe whose testing commenced a few months ago. We recently caught one of its test mules doing the rounds while giving us a clear look at its fresh design elements.

The Eye-catching Bits

The most prominent detail that can be seen in the spy shot is the flush-type door handles, a first for a production-spec Tata car. We also get to see the fresh aerodynamically styled alloy wheels, and the tall-ish tailgate featuring the LED taillights. The Curvv’s coupe-like roofline is also clearly evident in these latest images.

FYI: Flush door handles became more mass-market when they were introduced on the top-spec variant of the Mahindra XUV700 that arrived in mid-2021.

Previous sightings have already showcased the SUV coupe’s split and vertically stacked LED headlight setup as prevalent on the recently updated set of the Tata Nexon, Tata Nexon EV, Tata Harrier, and Tata Safari.

Expected To Get A Well-designed Cabin

While we still don’t have images showing the production-spec Curvv’s interior, if the cabin of the new Tata SUVs is anything to go buy, we can expect the former to offer a premium experience as well. It is also likely to get the new steering wheel featuring the illuminated ‘Tata’ logo and a cleaner dashboard layout.

Features-wise, the Tata Curvv is expected to come with a touch-based climate control panel, a big touchscreen (likely a 12.3-inch unit like the Nexon EV), a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, and ventilated front seats. Its safety net could have six airbags, front and rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and a 360-degree camera. Tata might even go on to equip the Curvv with some advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) including autonomous-emergency braking (AEB) and adaptive cruise control.

What Will It Get Under The Hood?

The Curvv will be offered with a new turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol engine (125PS/225Nm). Although its gearbox options are yet to be confirmed, we believe it could get the same 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) as the Nexon facelift. It is unknown what other engines might be on offer.

There will be an electric iteration of the Curvv built on Tata’s Gen2 platform as well, having a claimed range of up to 500km. That said, other technical specifications of the electric powertrain are still under wraps but we do know for sure that the SUV coupe will first be launched in its EV avatar.

Expected Launch And Price

The Tata Curvv is expected to go on sale sometime by mid-2024, with prices likely to start at Rs 10.5 lakh for the internal combustion engine (ICE) model, and close to Rs 20 lakh for the EV (both prices ex-showroom). It will be an SUV coupe option to regular ICE compact SUVs such as the Honda Elevate, Maruti Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Citroen C3 Aircross, MG Astor, and Volkswagen Taigun. Meanwhile, the Curvv EV will be an alternative to the likes of the MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona Electric.
