BYD Seal Electric Sedan Scores 5 Stars In Euro NCAP Crash Tests

BYD’s electric sedan, the Seal, has received a 5-star safety rating in the Euro NCAP crash tests for both adult and child occupant protection. The frontal offset test showed that the passenger compartment of the electric sedan was stable. In various impact tests, the Seal offered good protection to the heads, chest, and femurs of the passengers. It also provided good protection against whiplash injuries in rear impacts. The car features an e-calling system that alerts emergency services in the event of a crash and a braking system that prevents secondary collisions. However, the car lacks ISOFIX anchorages in the rear-middle seat and integrated child-seat restraint systems. In terms of protecting vulnerable road users, the Seal’s bonnet provided adequate protection to pedestrians, and its autonomous emergency braking system successfully detected pedestrians and cyclists to avoid collisions in most scenarios. The car also comes equipped with advanced driver assistance systems, including autonomous emergency braking, lane support, and speed detection systems. Another electric car from BYD, the Dolphin, received the same safety rating and points as the Seal. The Seal EV is expected to be launched in India as a CBU (completely built unit) by the end of 2023, with an estimated price of around Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom). Its competitors would include the BMW i4, Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Volvo XC40 Recharge.
