2024 Mercedes G-Class Facelift To Receive Aero Upgrades Inspired by EQG

Let’s face it, people who buy a Mercedes G-Class aren’t really concerned about fuel economy. With a starting price of $139,900 for a G550 or $179,000 for an AMG G63 in the United States (not including options), gas bills are hardly a concern. However, in Europe and other markets, Mercedes offers a more economical inline-six diesel engine, and there’s even a four-cylinder gasoline model called the G350 available in China.

That being said, those interested in the fully electric G-Class will likely want improved efficiency since the boxy-shaped SUV is not known for its aerodynamic performance. While the electric variant will retain its iconic appearance, it will benefit from various aerodynamic enhancements to optimize its range. The lessons learned during the development of the EQG electric SUV will be applied to the conventional-powered G-Class facelift, which is scheduled for release in 2024.

Mercedes Unimog Fire Trucks, Ambulance Revealed For 2023 FIREmobil

The G-Class is often seen as Mercedes’ go-anywhere SUV, but the company has an even more capable off-roader in its lineup. The Unimog, which has been in production for 75 years since Mercedes took over in 1951, is a highly customizable truck that can be used for various purposes. This includes emergency situations, as showcased by the special builds unveiled for the upcoming FIREmobil trade fair.

Mercedes will showcase six Unimogs at the FIREmobil trade fair, which will be held in Welzow, Brandenburg, Germany. These specialized vehicles have been converted into fire trucks, featuring single cab and crew cab body styles based on the U 5023 model. In addition, an ambulance version will be displayed, along with a smaller and lighter U 530 model presented as a fire truck.

Mercedes G-Class Electric Production Version Confirmed To Debut In A Few Months

In October 2017, Mercedes said goodbye to the V12-powered G-Class with a G65 Final Edition. Fast forward to June 2023, the G500 V8 Final Edition marked the end of the road for the non-AMG eight-cylinder model. While the G63 is still available, the iconic off-roader is also getting smaller. In 2024, there will be a G-Class variant that has no combustion engine at all. The electric G-Class was shown in prototype form at IAA Munich and will soon be closer to production.

Two years after revealing the Concept EQG at the same event, Mercedes is now showcasing a prototype of the electric SUV that is very close to the final production version. Mercedes has announced that visitors to the IAA event will have the opportunity to see the electric G-Class up close “months before its worldwide debut next year.” No further details have been provided, but it is confirmed that the conventional gasoline-powered G-Class will also continue to be available.

Mercedes-AMG G63 Transforms into an Extended and Lifted Overlanding Truck

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class hasn’t been a popular choice for overlanding camper equipment, until now. Pit26 Motorsports, a distributor of suspension and performance parts for the G-Class in the US, has recognized the great potential of the boxy SUV and created an overlanding machine based on the range-topping AMG G63 version.

This particular vehicle, built for a client with a passion for outdoor living and exploring, takes the form of a pickup truck with extra space for overlanding gear. The wheelbase has been extended by nearly 20 inches, and the suspension with portal axles has been lifted by about 5.9 inches.
