Berlin. The 2023 BMW BERLIN MARATHON kicked off in style with the inline skaters leading the way. Assisting the athletes on their journey were a fleet of all-electric BMW CE 04 and BMW CE 02 scooters. The track check was a special outing for the BMW motorcycles, as they were developed specifically for urban riding pleasure and are manufactured at the BMW Group plant in Berlin. The route took the skaters under the iconic Brandenburg Gate, creating a lasting memory. The BMW CE 04 and a selection of electric BMW cars serve as route and organisational vehicles for the BMW BERLIN MARATHON, known for being the world’s fastest marathon.

About 4,500 inline skaters followed the fleet of scooters and competed separately from the 47,000 other participants in the marathon due to their high speeds. The races had impressive finishes in both the men’s and women’s categories. Jason Suttels from Belgium and Bart Swings finished with the same time (57:01 minutes), but Suttels was awarded the victory. In the women’s race, Gabriela Rueda from Colombia crossed the finish line just ahead of Eliana Garcia Arias, resulting in a tied finish (1:08.59 hours).

The BMW CE 04 is an ideal companion for urban environments. It combines an electric drive, forward-thinking design, and innovative connectivity features, seamlessly integrating transportation and communication. With a maximum power output of 31 kW (42 hp), a top speed of 120 km/h, and a range of approximately 130 kilometres, the BMW CE 04 offers swift progress not only within the city but also on main roads and motorways.

BMW Motorrad offers another electric vehicle for urban areas and a new entry point into the world of BMW Motorrad with the upcoming BMW CE 02 (expected to be available from spring 2024). Designed with younger people in mind, the BMW CE 02 is an electric scooter that excels in the city, offering agility, practicality, durability, and a minimalist design.

The new CE 02, with a maximum power output of 11 kW / 15 PS, is suitable for riders aged 16 and above. Additionally, there is a version with a power output of 4 kW / 5 hp (rated power of 3.2 kW / 4 hp) limited to 45 km/h, meeting the requirements of the AM driving licence class. This version can be ridden in Germany from the age of 15 by riders who hold a car licence.

The BMW Group plant in Berlin has a rich history of motorcycle manufacturing, with production taking place in Berlin-Spandau since 1969. The plant, employing over 2,200 staff and having a capacity of up to 900 motorcycles and premium e-scooters per day, serves as the central hub for BMW Motorrad’s global production. Almost the entire range of BMW Motorrad models, consisting of 28 to 33 models, is produced in Berlin, with approximately 80% of the motorcycles being exported to more than 130 countries worldwide.
