The concept of a luxury minivan may seem unusual, but it has a strong following in China. In this market, Lexus sells the LM to compete with the Buick GL8. Now, Volvo wants to enter the luxury minivan segment with the EM90. However, Volvo’s approach will be different as it will feature an electric powertrain instead of a traditional combustion engine. The first official teaser for the Volvo EM90 was released recently, and now we have a rendering of what the minivan might look like.

Although this rendering is speculative, it is based on the official teaser video and draws inspiration from the Zeekr 009, which is believed to be the basis for the EM90. It would not make sense for Volvo to develop a new minivan from scratch, especially considering that the demand for minivans is relatively low compared to SUVs.

The EM90 is expected to retain the large and boxy body of the Zeekr 009, but with Volvo’s signature design elements. The teaser suggests that Volvo will make adjustments to the lights and front grille to give the minivan a distinct Volvo look.

The EM90 is rumored to offer a three-row cabin with sliding doors on both sides. There is also a possibility of an ultra-luxury version with two-row seating and individual rear seats. The minivan will likely be based on Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture, which aims to create a comfortable and luxurious “Scandinavian living room on the move.”

Given its designation as a “90” series model, the EM90 will be on the larger side. For reference, the Zeekr 009 is 205 inches long, 80 inches wide, 74 inches tall, with a wheelbase of 126 inches. Geely’s other luxury brand offers MPVs with different seating layouts.

It’s worth noting that Volvo does not have plans to sell the EM90 in the United States or Europe. However, the company is considering other markets outside of China for the minivan.
