Kymco’s New i-Tuber Wants To Be The Swiss Army Knife Of Electric Scooters

Electric two-wheelers are rapidly reshaping the landscape of urban mobility. From compact electric bicycles that provide assisted active mobility, to practical and utilitarian two-wheelers, to high-performance electric motorcycles, it’s clear that people have no intentions of veering away from two-wheeled mobility any time soon.

There have been quite a number of interesting electric innovations at EICMA 2023, and one of these is the new i-Tuber from Kymco. Kymco has always been about scooters. At EICMA, the brand unveiled an interesting model that aims to offer maximum practicality and utility. It’s called the i-Tuber, and while it may look as silly and dorky as its name, it promises quite a lot when it comes to practicality.

Kymco i-Tuber Electric Scooter

When it comes to the design of the i-Tuber, Kymco has taken a three-pronged approach: Comfort, Performance, and Utility. According to Kymco, the i-Tuber features an ergonomically designed saddle that’s meant to prioritize rider comfort for long hours on the saddle. Furthermore, the scooter’s relatively high ground clearance, as well as the exposed frame tubing at the bottom of the scooter, ensure that it can tackle all sorts of roads – even those with lots of potholes. Kymco has also included bright LED lights for safety during after-dark trips.

The Kymco i-Tuber is equipped with a 4,000-watt rear hub motor for performance. Kymco says that the new scooter is “synonymous with freedom” (freedom from gasoline, I suppose), but said freedom must be limited to a top speed of 70 kilometers per hour (44 miles per hour). The scooter also makes use of the brand’s Ionex technology, offering a claimed range of 130 kilometers (81 miles) per charge.

Kymco says it’s also going to launch a specific cargo model of the i-Tuber called the i-Tuber Carry, designed for B2B applications. It will come with a front luggage rack and a large rear carrying rack compatible with all sorts of accessories, catering to the practical side of things. There’s no reason to doubt that a wide range of practical accessories will also be offered for the standard i-Tuber.

Peugeot Launches New Tweet 200 GT Scooter In Japan

Scooters are a great option for traveling urban areas in Asian countries like Japan because of their light weight, agility, affordability, and practicality. A large number of people in Japan have access to these two-wheelers thanks in large part to the country’s licensing system. Scooters offer a more inclusive mode of mobility than bigger, more powerful motorcycles, which call for a specific license.

Exclusively introduced to the Japanese market, Peugeot, a French specialist in scooters and motorbikes, has unveiled the latest model, the Tweet 200 GT. Despite its name, this scooter has no connection to the social media platform Twitter; instead, it is entirely dedicated to providing uncomplicated and convenient mobility solutions. Setting itself apart from conventional scooters, the Tweet 200 GT boasts enhanced versatility attributed to its larger 16-inch wheels. In Japan, it carries a retail price of 423,500 Yen, amounting to about $2,910 USD.

The flat floor of the scooter adds to its utility by allowing the rider to carry bags between their legs. Furthermore, the scooter has ample under-seat storage and a rear luggage rack as a standard feature. All of these features add to the scooter’s rugged and practical design, which caters to individuals looking for a dependable and adaptable form of transportation.

The new Peugeot Tweet 200 GT features an air-cooled, four-stroke, SOHC, two-valve, single-cylinder engine with a displacement of 170cc. The economical engine is capable of delivering a maximum output of 12 horsepower at 7,500rpm and a peak torque of 8.8 pound-feet at 6,000rpm. Its fuel injection system enhances efficiency, while the 5.5-liter fuel tank ensures ample range. This configuration provides responsive acceleration and adaptable performance for urban and suburban riding scenarios.

For steady power delivery, the scooter has a continuously variable transmission (CVT), as is the case with most scooters of this type. Meanwhile, its braking system consists of a single disc for both the front and rear wheels, while its suspension hardware features a telescopic fork up front and twin shocks at the rear. Both the front and back wheels use 110/70-16 tires, which contribute to stability, traction, and a lightweight feel.

Mahindra’s New Electric Three-Wheeler: A Practical and Efficient Urban Vehicle

In countries like India, three-wheelers are widely used as urban mobility vehicles by both private citizens and ride-sharing services. They offer a practical and affordable way of transporting goods and people, combining the mechanical simplicity of a motorcycle with the hauling capabilities of a small car. It’s no surprise that they have remained popular in the region.

To modernize the three-wheeler scene in India, Mahindra, one of the largest automotive manufacturers in the country, has launched the new e-Alfa Super through its subsidiary Mahindra Last Mile Mobility. This electric utility vehicle is being described as a “super rickshaw.” Traditionally, rickshaws are defined as two- or three-wheeled covered carriages pulled by people. However, modern-day rickshaws are propelled by engines or electric motors, like the new Mahindra e-Alfa Super.

According to Mahindra, the e-Alfa Super offers a higher range and best-in-class safety and comfort features. It is built tougher and more durable than the standard e-Alfa, of which Mahindra has already sold over 50,000 units. This upgraded version is designed to withstand rough daily usage, making it suitable for various cargo-hauling or people-moving needs.

In terms of performance, the Mahindra e-Alfa Super relies on barebones technology that prioritizes reliability and simplicity. It is equipped with a basic 140-ampere-hour lead-acid battery pack and an electric motor that produces 1.64 kilowatts (approximately 2.2 horsepower) and 22 Newton-meters (15.4 pound-feet) of torque. The e-rickshaw can travel up to 95 kilometers (59 miles) on a single charge.

To facilitate charging, the three-wheeler comes with an 18-amp charger backed by a 12-month warranty. Mahindra has also established over 10,000 charging stations across India in partnership with various charging providers. Additionally, the e-Alfa Super is covered by a one-year warranty, and the battery comes with an impressive 18-month warranty. The brand ensures easy accessibility to service and repair through its extensive network of more than 1,150 service centers across India.

Mahindra Last Mile Mobility CEO Susan Mishra emphasized that the e-Alfa Super offers superior range and earning potential in a world where clean mobility is increasingly in demand. This allows driver partners to increase their incomes while reducing environmental impact, all with the trust and reliability associated with the Mahindra brand.

New TOM Electric Scooter Could Be The Ultimate Urban Runabout

Personal urban mobility has become increasingly popular in Europe and Asia, offering a sustainable alternative to cars and public transport. While the US is still catching up, lightweight electric vehicles (EVs) are gaining traction, especially in urban areas.

Innovation in electric personal mobility continues to redefine transportation, with unique and innovative vehicles emerging from various manufacturers. One such example is the TOM, an electric scooter developed by Italian start-up To-Move. While motorcyclists may view it as a toy, the TOM has the potential to revolutionize urban mobility.

New TOM Electric Scooter Could Be The Ultimate Urban Runabout

The TOM scooter stands out with its unique folding design, making it incredibly compact for storage – a valuable feature for urban dwellers concerned about space. It also features a seat, offering a more comfortable riding position compared to traditional stand-up e-scooters. This facilitates longer commutes as it reduces strain on the rider’s knees and hips.

Additionally, the TOM scooter offers a comfortable ride with its suspension fork that absorbs small bumps and road imperfections. It also comes equipped with disc brakes, all while maintaining a lightweight design of just 20 kilograms. To-Move claims that folding the TOM takes only seven seconds, making it easy to transport in a car, bus, train, or store under a desk.

Technologically, the TOM scooter is powered by a 500-watt rear hub motor, similar to those found in commuter-oriented electric bicycles. This motor provides a top speed of 28 miles per hour. The scooter is equipped with a 750-watt-hour battery pack integrated into the frame, offering a range of approximately 35 miles on a single charge. Charging the scooter via a standard household socket takes about four hours.

In Europe, the To-Move TOM electric scooter is priced at 2,750 Euros, approximately $3,000 USD. While cheaper e-scooters or e-bikes are available, none of them feature the stylish design of the TOM. To-Move is currently running a Kickstarter campaign to fund production, with plans to start manufacturing in the fall of 2023.
