Here’s What The Original Cast Of Sons Of Anarchy Is Up To Today

Summary

  • Mark Boone Junior, who played Bobby on Sons of Anarchy, is still active as an actor and has several upcoming projects according to his IMDB page.
  • Katey Sagal, known for her role as Gemma on the show, continues to have acting roles in television, including on The Conners and Dead to Me.
  • Kim Coates, who portrayed Tig, is an avid motorcycle fan and currently has at least three Harley-Davidsons in his collection.

When the Sons of Anarchy TV show was unleashed on an unsuspecting FX audience, no one could have predicted how popular a show about a dangerous motorcycle club would become. In retrospect, there shouldn’t have been any doubt. After all, shows about criminals have always been in style, especially those that were considered as prestige television such as the Sopranos, The Wire and Dexter. The same was true for SOA, there were just a touch more Harley-Davidsons (and one Triumph) in it.

With enough action, love stories and Shakespearean intrigue to fill a shallow grave, the show enthralled motorcycle lovers and non-riders alike for 7 bloody years. It was especially close to the hearts of Harley fans who got to see some of their favorite models popularized on television. The show wasn’t without its controversies, however, as several real-life motorcycle clubs took issue with the criminal activities the SOA took part in. Yet in other ways, the show was able to shine a light on the lives of club members with realism and authenticity, due in part to the employment of several real former club members like David Labrava, who played Happy Lowman. With the immensely popular show coming to a conclusion in 2014, many of its fans wondered, what had become of some of their favorite actors and actresses that were involved with the TV series.

With information pulled from IMDB.com, entertainment profiles, interviews and personal social media accounts, this spoiler-free article will help our readers catch up with the original cast of Sons of Anarchy.

Mark Boone Junior

Robert ‘Bobby Elvis’ Munson

FX

Within the show’s world, Bobby was, most of the time, a voice of reason for his fellow club members. Though not always effective, Bobby did his best to steer the club in a more righteous direction, guiding Clay and Jax into more peaceful resolutions to conflicts that plagued SAMCRO throughout its 7 seasons. For that reason, he’d become a favorite character among fans of the show.

Mark Boon Junior, the actor who portrayed Bobby, has been in the industry for a long time, and many may remember seeing him in movies like Memento, 2 Fast 2 Furious and Batman Begins as Detective Flass. And though he’d started riding motorcycles while quite young, he’d stopped at the age of 19. He’s back to it now, however, as evidenced by Sons of Anarchy, with him now claiming that he’s addicted for life. Mark is currently still very much active as an actor, securing rolls in tv series like The Mandalorian, Paradise City and Hightown. He also has 3 upcoming projects according to his IMDB page.

Katey Sagal

Gemma Teller Morrow

FX

There was always something Shakespearian about Gemma’s roll in the series. She’s channeled her insecurities, need for loyalty and love of her son into some truly diabolical schemes that even Lady Macbeth would find questionable. As one of the few female characters on the show, Gemma proved to be a force to be reckoned with, even if her powers were at times limited by the fact that she wasn’t a true club member.

Katey Sagal should be real familiar with anyone who grew up in the 1980’s and 1990’s, perhaps best know at the time for being on the sitcom Married… with Children. She’s also the voice of Leela on the long-running Futurama series, which was recently picked up for more episodes. But when it comes to Sons of Anarchy, many may not know that she’s married to the series creator, Kurt Sutter. She continues to have acting roles in television, with the latest being on The Conners and a fun reunion with her Married… with Children co-star Christina Applegate, on Netflix’s Dead to Me.

Kim Coates

Alexander ‘Tig’ Trager

FX

Tig was the resident psychopath on SOA, seemingly having no morals or codes he wasn’t willing to break. And that’s saying something, in a show full of psychopaths. From reckless decisions that lead to murder and season long blood feuds, to losing his daughter in an act of revenge and being filled with sadness and rage, Tig was the wildcard, whose behavior was rarely predictable.

Kim Coates, like many of his castmates, was a seasoned veteran of Hollywood with memorable, if brief, turns as the bad guy in The Last Boy Scout and Bad Boys before parlaying that success into a sustained career. His other memorable acting gigs include Waterworld, Pear Harbor, Black Hawk Down and numerous television appearances. He has two upcoming projects and can be currently seen in HBO’s White House Plumbers. Kim continues to be an avid motorcycle fan, and currently has at least three Harley-Davidsons in his collection.

Ron Perlman

Clarence ‘Clay’ Morrow

FX

There is, perhaps, no one the audience loved to hate more than Clay. The leader of the SAMCRO club when the show began, Clay was selfish, scheming and power hungry, which made him a constant and lethal thorn in Jax’s side. The man was a towering mass of swagger and pent-up violence waiting to unleash itself upon his enemies and friends alike.

Ron Perlman had a storied career in movies and television long before he was offered the part of Clay Morrow. From Miami Vice to Beauty and the Beast, Alien Resurrection, and best of all, Hellboy, Ron Perlman has kept himself busy by being in some of the most well-known movies and tv shows ever created. After Sons of Anarchy ended its run, Ron continued to stay busy with plenty of movies and tv shows. He’s been in Don’t Look Up, Poker Face, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (as Optimus Primal) and has at least eight upcoming projects in various stages of production!

Charlie Hunnam

Jackson ‘Jax’ Teller

FX

The lead character of Sons of Anarchy, and one most associated with the show, was always Jax Teller. A man literally born to be the leader of the SAMCRO club, Jax was the son of John Teller, the original president of the club before his untimely death prior to the events of the show. If nothing else, SOA chronicles Jax’s slow descent into the questionable and immoral world of motorcycle gangs. His attempt to navigate a life that is filled with backstabbing, paranoia, risk and murder made for some exciting television during the show’s epic 7 season run. And though some of the choices the character had made during the show had pushed him to the bleeding edge of likability, he’d always remained a tragic fan-favorite, and someone to ultimately root for.

Charlie Hunnam, some fans may find as a surprise, was born in England, which makes doing 7 years of an American tv show that much more impressive. Prior to SOA, Hunnam was in Nicholas Nickleby, Children of Men and Green Street Hooligans, which ultimately landed him the gig as Jax Teller. During and after SOA, Charlie starred in several high-profile movies like Pacific Rim, Lost City of Z, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Triple Frontier and The Gentlemen. Recently he’d finished a limited series for Apple called Shantaram, where he also rides a motorcycle, and will be co-staring next in Zack Snyder’s science fiction epic, Rebel Moon. And though he may not ride as much as he used to, he still has a bike in his garage from his SAMCRO days.
