Samsung’s SmartTag 2 and SmartThings Find system are being well-received, but users have noticed one major drawback. The MobileFun listing does not mention compatibility with any other tag-tracking system.

Unlike generic third-party tracking tags like Tile, which can be used with various compatible mobile devices and work with Google’s Find My Device feature, Samsung’s SmartTags are limited to a self-contained environment. This means that the SmartThings Find system can only track Samsung tags, and SmartTag 2s can only be tracked by Samsung-branded Android phones. This limitation may negatively impact sales, as the device would be useless for users without a Samsung smartphone.

As of now, Samsung has not commented on the rumors surrounding the SmartTag 2 or the isolation of the SmartThings Find system. The release date for the device is yet to be confirmed, but rumors suggest it will be sometime around October 2023. The MobileFun listing prices the device at £42.99 or approximately $55 USD.
