Jaguar Land Rover to Transform Nitra Plant for Electric Vehicle Production

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced plans to convert its Nitra plant in Slovakia into a facility that will produce electric vehicles (EVs) by the end of the decade. This move is part of JLR’s strategy to launch nine EVs by 2030.

The Nitra plant, which was opened in 2018 at a cost of £1.13 billion, is one of the brand’s most advanced facilities. Since its inauguration, it has been responsible for manufacturing over 365,000 Land Rover Defender and Land Rover Discovery models, with the former being exclusively built at Nitra and serving as JLR’s top-selling vehicle.

With the shift towards electric mobility, the Slovakia plant will focus on producing the electric successors to these popular models. To accommodate this new direction, the Nitra plant will be adapted to accommodate the full-sized MLA architecture, which will replace the current D7X platform used for these vehicles.
