What Makes The Honda e:Ny1 Special

Demand for electric SUVs is growing, and Honda is following suit. Introducing the Honda e:Ny1, the first fully electric SUV from Honda for the European market. While Honda fans in the US are still waiting for their first fully electric SUV, Europe is already getting its second EV. In China, Honda has sold the e:NS1 and e:NP1 electric SUVs, which share many similarities with the e:Ny1.

Automotive giants like Honda, Ford, Chevrolet, and Volkswagen are all striving to innovate their EV platforms, aiming to produce better, faster, and more affordable electric vehicles for customers. After the less successful introduction of the Honda E, Honda officials are hoping that the e:Ny1 will bring them success and help establish their presence in the EV market.

The Honda e:Ny1 Will Have A WLTP Range Of Over 250 Miles

The e:Ny1 will be built on Honda’s e:N Architecture F platform, promising a sturdy chassis with a low center of gravity and low drag. Its electric motor will deliver 201 horsepower (150 kW) and 229 pound-feet of torque to the front wheels, providing ample power for day-to-day driving. The e:Ny1 will accelerate from 0 to 62 MPH in 8.0 seconds, prioritizing smooth and comfortable acceleration and deceleration over outright speed. With a 68.8 kWh battery, it will have a WLTP range of 257 miles (412 km), offering impressive range for worry-free trips.

When you step inside the cabin of the e:Ny1, you’ll experience an ultramodern interior with enhanced sophistication and comfort. The redesigned dashboard immediately catches your eye, featuring a massive 15.1-inch touchscreen. This screen is divided into three dedicated sections: one for navigation, one for climate control, and one for applications. This layout helps the driver stay focused on the road without having to look around, which can be a distraction with other infotainment screens.

The e:Ny1 will also come equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for seamless connectivity. The interior offers ample leg space and headroom, uses high-quality materials, and provides a comfortable environment for daily travels.

At first glance, the e:Ny1 resembles an identical twin of the Honda HR-V. This SUV features a 102.8-inch (2610 mm) long wheelbase, utilizing 46 percent high-tensile steel for chassis rigidity and an enjoyable driving experience. The front accommodates a charging port with an LED light indicator, denoting whether the vehicle is charging or not with red and green colors. The sides showcase 18-inch alloy wheels, minimalist lines, and sleek headlights.

The back of the e:Ny1 boasts a single taillight that spans the entire width of the vehicle. With a boot space of 12.2 cubic feet (346 liters) and a power tailgate that closes automatically when you walk away, it ensures worry-free grocery runs. The numerous white ‘H’ badges around the car indicate its electric nature. Additionally, the rear features the iconic Honda typeface badge, adding a touch of premium aesthetics.

Honda prioritizes safety and reliability. The e:Ny1 incorporates cutting-edge safety features and driving aids, ensuring a peaceful journey:

  • Blind spot detection
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Lane assistance
  • Traffic sign recognition system
  • Collision mitigation system
  • Road departure mitigation system

Honda’s focus on safety technology guarantees a safe and stress-free driving experience.

Did Honda join the electric vehicle market too late? Only time will tell, but it was definitely a necessary move considering the heavy investments made by other automakers in the EV race. While the Honda E didn’t achieve the anticipated success, attributed to its high price tag and limited range, Honda can learn from that experience. The e:Ny1 is expected to be priced around €30,000 or $32,750 and will be available in autumn 2023. We have high hopes that this SUV, based on the e:N Architecture F platform, will mark the beginning of an exciting future for Honda’s electric vehicles.
