10 Strangest PlayStation Controllers We’ve Ever Seen

In every “Resident Evil” game, there is a mascot monster. “Resident Evil 3: Nemesis” features the titular Nemesis, while “Resident Evil 2” has both Mr. X and G-Birkin. As for “Resident Evil 4,” the face of the game is the masked Dr. Salvador and his deadly chainsaw. So, why not use his weapons against other enemies?

When Capcom released “Resident Evil 4,” they collaborated with NubyTech to create a chainsaw-shaped controller. However, this peripheral was more focused on its design rather than its functionality. The controller does technically work, but its buttons are placed in uncomfortable positions. Additionally, the blood spatters on the controller are randomly applied, making each chainsaw controller unique.

Since “Resident Evil 4” was initially developed for the Nintendo Gamecube, the chainsaw controller was made for that console. When Capcom later ported the game to PlayStation 2, they also created a PS2-compatible chainsaw. This PS2 variant features the appropriate buttons and a red paint job. Interestingly, while the PS2 version of “Resident Evil 4” has lesser graphics compared to the Gamecube original, its chainsaw controller is considered superior because it includes a ripcord that triggers chainsaw noises.
